They could easily eliminate the secondary market/flippers if they wanted to. I think the scarcity/collectible aspect helps them charge what they do and sell what they do.
I don't really care either way. If I want a poster at the show I can get one. It's kinda cool knowing I stood in line for four hours to get a poster that is now worth $1k. But I'm never going to sell it, so I'd have much rather ordered it online in an unlimited print-run and spent more time at the tailgate. It would look exactly the same on my wall either way.
edit: Scarcity/collectible aspect is also almost certainly better for the artist as a brand.
