I also think if you look at the man made events in human history that have caused the most suffering and loss of life, many of those can be attributed to the tyranny that results from an all powerful centralized government. Our founders understood this very well.
I’m not an anarchist. I understand there’s obviously a role for government. But my number one priority when evaluating government policy is it’s impact on individual freedoms (which includes economic freedom). By it’s nature socialism infringes on individual economic freedoms. I’m not arguing people like Route want us to become the USSR but I do feel it’s important that there’s a counterweight to this seemingly never ending demand on the left for more powerful, activist government.
It’s like when we talk about wealth distribution programs (and the resulting taxation) we don’t even consider the awesome power this gives centralized government.
