It may not be a change in sound from the violin, but just Boyd’s half-assed playing over the last number of years. There are quite a few signature “Boyd” moments within songs. When the rest of the band doesn’t even know what they are going to get that night, it’s no surprise that it happened really.

I think it will take some time to get used to a new sound for the band (no violin and bring the keys back in). They are making strides this tour already. Playing more and more with Buddy will get them there.
