The hawks still have Clendening, Johns, Danault, Morin, McNeil, and Teuvo in the minors. This team is absolute insanity.
I feel bad for all of you. Just come over to the dark side. |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
I like Hayes but getting Versteeg is awesome. Even if both turned into great players. Neither will help you win a cup this year. So I enjoy being a team that makes win now moves. It is funny that Bowman finally made a big deadline move after getting blasted the last few for complacency. Though it figures it's with Tallon.
Can anyone tell me anything about Lefebvre? |

There's so much talent it's ridiculous. They also have an extra 4th and 5th round pick in the 2014 draft. AND an extra 5th in the 2015 for the Carcillo trade. |
Stan Bowman is a wizard. If he made moves at the two deadlines before last year we would have lost depth and MAYBE gone deep in the playoffs? Look at them now. Just won the cup, absolutely killing it right now, and top farm system, and an unbelievable roster and our salary cap problems are non-existent.
Incredible. |
Stan bowman traded Dan Carcillo. I forgot about that :lol

I don't know a LOT about Lefebvre, but I doubt he sees time with Chicago. He's done at the end of the year too. It was most likely just a money move, and a roster spot in Rockford. I'm guessing Florida wanted to dump some payroll since they were retaining part of Versteeg's salary, and the Hawks needed someone that wouldn't effect the NHL cap. From what I do know, he's not a guy that will "WOW" you with offensive talent, but he'll do everything pretty well. |
That guy is an idiot.

Incredible trade. Quote:

Hayes, as I said, had his chance. He's not strong on his skates, and had plenty of chances to become the big man the Hawks need. I wish he worked out, and because he didn't, we now have to deal with Bickell at $4 million AAV. So, trust me when I say this, I wish he worked out. He just...didn't. He, just like Olsen, fell out of favor with the Hawks, and for good reason. There was too much talent in front of him to justify a roster spot. His time in Chicago was up. So, like I said before, the Hawks gave up really nothing. Neither of those guys were going to see NHL ice time with Chicago again, so all Bowman did here was gamble on Versteeg's cap hit not being a problem, and with Florida picking up half of it, there's no way it is a problem when the cap is above $70 million next season, and even higher the following. Versteeg shouldn't be "the man", he'll fit right in on the 3rd line in Chicago, which is where he was in 2010 with Ladd. Granted, Ladd is a much, much better linemate than Shaw or Bickell, but Versteeg will do just fine on that line. He also gives the Hawks more flexibility when Q inevitably wants to shuffle the lines when things start stalling. He can play a top 6 role if he needs to. |
After next year. The cap will be way up. I'm not remotely concerned. Stan Bowman has done nothing but mostly A+ moves.
Hammers cap hit Leddy/Barker Frolik/Skille Pick/Carcillo Versteeg/Olsen-Hayes |

After next year, and you can expect the cap to probably be around $74-$75 million during the 2015-2016 season, if not higher. It honestly might be around $80 million. Stan has said explicitly that he's planning around resigning Toews and Kane, and that they aren't going anywhere. I'm expecting them both to be around $8-$9 million for 8 years. We'll be just fine. |

Also got Oduya.
The only questionable things he's done so far are signing Montador to an extension that got bought out...annnnnnnnd that's really it. I don't like the Bickell signing, but it's still too early on that one. |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
One more thing...good for Seguin, eh?
4th in the NHL in goals, 5th in points...just registered a 4 goal night. Keep it up, kid. |
Trading John Scott is more insane. Jesus H. Christ.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
Well, blue jackets out played the bruins last night I thought, especially in the 3rd. just can't get a break.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
Waiting for another Wings OT or shootout loss tonight....I guess they are getting points which is better than nothing but damn. So close yet so far.

But obviously there is definite upside here with him coming back to a high-scoring team. |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
I can't wait for Bowman to trade for Ladd and Bolland just so we can have that RIDICULOUS third line again.
|
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
:lol chris still hoping bolland comes back

Seguin had no interest in playing the way this bruins team does. He had plenty of chances.

Been a tough start to the season for Eriksson, I hope he gets to where he can be in Boston. The trade has seemed to completely rejuvenate Seguin in Dallas. It's become apparent that he's one of those that thrives being the number one guy, and the responsibility seems to have helped his attitude and maturity. I love seeing him do this well and I hope he keeps it up. The league can never have enough hard-working, high-end talent like him. |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
Hey guys, just wanted to point out how the Versteeg trade brought Chris and Bron together, if only for a moment. Really sweet, guys.
|
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
Sorry, just disagree. I just think it's going to look like a pretty terrible trade in the end. You don't trade away a 21-yr old offensive powerhouse for a (very good) player entering his post-peak years.

Edit: don't forget it wasn't a straight up Seguin for Loui trade. Reilly Smith has looked pretty strong giving us a great 3rd line this far into the season. |

If lines become stale we may see something like that for short periods of time, but Saad is a top 6, not a 3rd line forward on this team. Saad/Toews/Hossa Sharp/Pirri/Kane Bickell/Shaw/Versteeg Bollig/Kruger/Smith I think that's what we're basically going to see for the rest of the year. Some guys will shuffle, as is normal with a Q system, but that will probably be the "base" that Q roles with most of the time. |
