In my lifetime that I've seen/followed:

1) Eric Lindros
2) Mark Recchi
3) John LeClair
4) Rod Brind'Amour
5) Jeremy Roenick

#6-#43 - Starting #1 goaltenders

:thumbsup I would definitely put him at #6. It was a tough call for me. Also consideration went to Averman and that little smart ass kid who was only in the first one.

You don't win a Stanley Cup with a poor coach, but adaptation needs to be considered and implemented where necessary. After a while of the same thing over and over, the message gets stale, hence the high coaching turnover in the NHL. We hardly ever see guys make it more than 4-5 seasons with a team anymore for that very reason.

Exactly, This is middle of Q's 4th season now. The constant line juggling cannot sit well with any player. I'm sure you thought the same thing when Q coached in COL.

It's one of those difficult situations where it's nothing against the coach, it's just that a fresh start is needed. Many of the Avs players speak fondly of Q now, recognizing him as a fantastic player's coach, but many of those were the same guys who were fed up with him towards the end of his tenure there.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

I'd agree with that. I still believe he finishes this year out, although if they continue losing as listlessly as they have been that may change. They brought in guys to play physical in the offseason but the system they have in place is more about blocking passing lanes with your stick then aggressively pressuring the puck carrier. Also with the personnel they have there is no reason this team should be anywhere outside of the Top 5 PP units every year. Past few weeks they can't even set it up in the zone.

I think a good argument could be made for Bondra being higher. He put up goal totals when no one was scoring that was unbelievable.

Good list, though.

As mentioned earlier, it's more of who your FAVORITES were/are, not necessarily the best. Hence, me having Mike Ricci at # 3 on my list. :lol

How about one from our lone NYI rep?

As for the Islanders

Bossy
Potvin
Trottier
Billy Smith
LaFontaine.

Is it too early for Tavares to be 6. Going to real tough for him to crack top 4 but man, it will be some career if he does.

ah, ok. I didn't backread enough then. I thought it was best players in your lifetime and/or seen play.

My list could be very different then and that would be no disrespect to the cup winners. I had half season tickets in high school (that I worked all summer to pay for) with my older brother and saw them all play but it after the cup years.

So leaving them out, my favorites are:

1. Tavares (not too early, currently have wicked man crush)
2. Kasparaitis
3. LaFontaine
4. Turgeon (92-93 was a magical season)
5. Scatchard

Both excellent lists :thumbsup Nice to see Pierre Turgeon get some love. Not a physical player by any means, but mad skills. My favorite Isle is Butch Goring.

I think a lot of folks are getting the feeling that Q's defensive systems are just getting a bit dated in the fast-paced post-lockout NHL. When we played you guys, you saw the crazy number of 2-on-1's. And not just that, but the space our defenders have to give, allowing open looks. The players need to sack up and start helping each other, for sure. Forwards not getting back enough, flying the zone too early, etc...needs to stop. But if the source is right that the players are losing faith in Q's system, that is scary. If that's the truth, it's probably time to make a change.

But honestly we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. If they lose tomorrow to the Sharks, I'm guessing somebody goes. But we fare decently against SJ lately and if the team turns it around, all will be forgotten. Fact is, it's really tough to win games on the road when you don't went faceoffs. Toews is clearly not 100% yet and is losing them a lot. When that happens, the team struggles.

But right now I'm actually starting to become convinced that getting rid of Q might not be a bad idea. His style just is too soft and the Hawks need to play a more physical game.

Not taking anything away from Tavares, but I think when his career ends the top 4 of that list will remain intact. That's a ridiculous group of hockey players right there, and LaFontaine was certainly no slouch either.

And yeah, after reviewing my list and thinking about it a little more, I'd like to adjust it to:

1. Langway
2. Bondra
3. Gartner
4. Kolzig
5. Ovechkin

I move Kolzig ahead of Ovechkin for two reasons: the '98 playoff run, and the playoff disappointments from '10 and '11. Until Ovechkin blows me away like Kolzig did in 1998, Kolzig is ahead on the list.

why ownership let that Ranger trash Don Maloney come in is beyond me. He dismantled that 93 semifinals team quickly and most of it didnt work out. Turgeon for that cocksucker Kirk Muller who didn't report. Turgeon was a special talent. I wonder to this day if we might have fared better vs. the Habs if that other cocksucker Hunter didn't take him with one of the worst cheap shots of all time. Now both those pricks are coaches. I hope for a puck in the mouth every time we play them.

Goring was the missing ingredient for the cups teams. We needed a number 2 C behind Trottier. He put us over the top. For his contribution to the cup years, I'll have respect for Butch but he is an awful, I mean awful announcer. Miss Jaffe. He was good and should have another job by now and it is surprising that he doesn't

Yeah, I don't really see anyway JT breaks the top 4, no matter how good he becomes. That is a serious Mt Rushmore of professional teams.

19 straight playoff series victories is nothing to fool with. Talk about unbreakable records.

yeah, well, we haven't won a playoff series since 1993 so I anxiously wait for the bright future we will have in the coming years. I only hope Wang (our owner) starts to put some money into the team. You can't spend the cap minimum and expect to win in this league. Be a shame to not surround JT with a better, deeper team.

Yeah it really would. He has clearly turned out to be as good as advertised, and he's only getting better. I don't know a lot about the behind the scenes of the Isles, but it seems like Wang has done more bad than good for that team. Fair assessment?

90% of the fanbase despises him. I used to support him vs the haters because he loses about 15-20 million a year on the team. But not anymore for about the last 2-3 years. He maybe saved the team when he bought it. He put a lot of money into the team when he first bought it (though not always smartly like the Yashin deal) cause he wanted to make a big splash.

It is now clear he bought the team for the Lighthouse Project. It was his dream to build and develop a new state of the art arena and the surrounding area to have it be the hub and center of attraction for Long Islanders to go to. The town has turn it down and most alternatives he has pursued, which has led to rumors of a move to KC, Quebec, Brooklyn, Queens.

He gave DP that deal, was too loyal to Milbury, hired Neil Smith then fired him a month later to hire Garth Snow. Most of the fanbase feels the team was secondary to real estate deal and will keep the team at the cap floor until the lease runs out in 2015. Isles have one of the best cable deals but one of the worst arena deals. So much of what is sold at the coliseum goes into the pockets of SMG, who hold the lease.

But you know the old saying, if you build it, they will come. Isles get most of the sale of tickets so if you put money into the team and improve the on ice product, the people will come in droves. They are there.

Which player ends up on the Caps at the end of the year: Rick Nash, Jeff Carter or Tuomo Ruutu?

There have been plenty of rumors of Semin being moved to the Hawks or Leafs and if Semin does move out the Caps have plenty of cap space to land any of those three.
