I would say '96 and '98 were the years that the media thought they were going to do it.

I would consider 2004 for me personally. 96 and 98 I was 10 and 12 years old, so while I was excited for the team, I didn't have real expectations while watching.

Well that's a stretch.

It really is. Raata is good, but its pretty hard to tell how good he would be as a #1 when he doesn't get the workload. Also, he is on a really good team, so that helps too

I'm telling you that's wrong. I have no idea where you're getting that idea besides maybe a quick glance at stats, but Emery isn't going to give them anything more than Mason. There were plenty of times where he's been as bad as Mason tonight, if not worse:

If you think Emery is any kind of saving grace at goalie.... :lol

Yeah, I mean, besides the fact that we just haven't seen enough of him yet, there are at least 20-25 GOOD starting goaltenders in this league right now.

Hank, Rask, Price, Quick, Varly, Rinne, Craw, Schneider, Bobrovsky, Miller, Craw, Luongo, Howard, Niemi, Smith...and that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure I missed a couple.

But he went undefeated for the Blackhawks two years ago! (If I recall correctly)

Emery is not a saving grace, but...neither is Mason. Emery gives them a better chance to win.

Yeah, he's looked great so far. Ben Bishop, Kari Lehtonen, Halak...

The only team where I could see Raanta competing for the starting job is maybe Edmonton?

Emery went 1-2 in the playoffs last year posting a 3.49 GAA
Mason went 2-2 in the playoffs last year posting a 1.97 GAA

Who knows if the Flyers would have won the series with Mason starting the series last year, but I know I for one was severely upset that he wasn't ready to go from the start

Better W/L ( over .500 which Mason is not), better GAA, and better SV%...Mason has won 133 of 304 games; Emery has won 136 of 258...

Do you know what teams they played for, whether they were any good or not. Numbers don't tell the whole story.

You should give up.

Same, took him in the last round. That's why I am digging him :lol I probably wouldn't have known how well he was doing seeing as he plays in Minnesota which I barely recognize as a state let alone somewhere sports occurs

It doesn't matter who's in net, this Flyers defense doesn't give them a chance to win. Let alone the fact that Emery > Mason is laughable.

Right, Mason's numbers are skewed because CBJ was pretty terrible and he also had a bit of a rough stretch. However, he proved last year that he can be more than serviceable.

My real hope is that Stolarz can develop into something nice or the Flyers can draft a goalie and develop one. I think this is more likely to happen now that Hextall is in the FO.

Correction. The Flyers should give up, because they are due for another embarrassing first round exit...

Bingo. The Flyers can not win with their defense unless they had a light's out goalie and even than it would be similar with what Miller went through in Buffalo. The blue line needs to improve (and we have a lot of young talent that I hope will develop) for the Flyers to be anywhere near talks of competing

Truth. Tough season when your second best goalie starts all year.

You realize the Flyers have not had an embarrassing first round exit since 2005-2006 (all my opinion).

2013-2014 not embarrassing at all. Mason was injured to start the series and when he came in he played well.

2012-2013 Didn't qualify so no first round exit, so suck it

2011-2012 won the first round, so suck it

2010-2011 won the first round, so suck it

2009-2010 had a SCF appearance, so suck it

2008-2009 lost in first round to SC champs Penguins, not embarrassing, so suck it

2007-2008 won the first round, so suck it

2006-2007 Didn't qualify so no first round exit, so suck it

2005-2006 Lost to Sabres, Ryan Miller was a beast, still I would concede here as embarrasing I guess
