Great, the Stalberg signing panned out well for 3/4ths of a season. A+ Stan!
The Campbell trade was fine. Not great, but fine. Yeah, we dumped a contract, but Campbell was a LOT more important to this team than anyone gave him credit for. Look at how he's doing in Florida. Look at how great he made Hammer look. Without him, this blue line is a lot weaker than we thought it was. 4 is not that good. Leddy still needs time. Campbell is an All-Star defenseman that we traded away for AHL talent. Two bad contracts exchanging? Yeah, but at least Florida got the talent. Ask Rocky how he likes paying Olesz and Huet ~$9 this year for nothing.
Back to Stalberg. Great, he won that one (so far), but then he lost Frolik. $2.33 + the $875K for Stalberg basically evens itself out. Frolik is a $2.33 scratch on a team thats skating Bickell (who can't do anything right), and Andrew Shaw right now. A kid no one knew 7 months ago.
You will never convince me Carcillo was worth a damn. At all. He was fine for a couple games, but that's it. And that's the optimistic view of it. He didn't play well with a couple bad hits. He was a joke. He didn't do much positive after his first couple games when everyone was blowing him and what a great signing he was. He turned into a goon real fast. He had 82 PIM in 28 games....82! That's the equivilant of a little over 240 if he played all 82 games (which is impossible). He was suspended multiple times...just a disgrace to the sweater. You could have found a bunch of guys that can provide on the 4th line without being a goon.
Yeah, obviously if Crawford were having a stellar year, we'd be complaining less, but he isn't.
Bowman struck out. It was a weak free agent class, yeah, and at least he managed a bunch of 1 year deals, I guess.
He also signed John Scott to a 1-way 2 year deal. So, that was a smart one. Now we have to keep him on the NHL squad because they're scared to send him down through waivers "IN CASE SOMEONE ELSE CLAIMS HIM".
Is Sami Lepisto still alive?
Good call with Hjalmarsson as well. Him and Montador are absolutely worth $6 million a year until the start of the 2014 season...when we'll only be paying a 35 year old Steve Montador...

Florida is back to mediocre. Sure Campbell looks good racking up assists on the PP there. Big deal. How about his defense? Still a complete sham.
They keep Scott because they want him out there in games where other teams have a legit heavy. Scott had improved quite a bit, I thought. But Q just won't ever play him. At all. If he's in the lineup, he has to get more than 4 minutes or he should be on the 4th line where he can't hurt you.
Frolik's deal has turned out bad so far. He took a flyer on a guy that could have either broken out and gone back to a potential 20-goal scorer...if that happened, he would have been easily moveable and worth the contract. Didn't happen.
As far as Hammer, it seems like you and bonzo have loved him since the Cup year...he is solid. Probably not worth his contract but he blocks more shots than just about anyone in the league. Paired with Leddy, though, it's a chinese fire drill inside their own zone. I know you hated Leddy - Keith, which definitely had run its course, but Hammer - Seabs is a shutdown pairing on D.
I agree that Stan Bowman's signings have been kind of weird. His big success story is Stalberg. It was a stroke of genius to sign him for two years. If 25 were a UFA after this season, he would have brought 3 times (probably even more) the salary he'll make next year.
He has been very good on trades, though, so far. Remember dumping Cam Barker and his awful salary for Nick Leddy? Talk about a highway robbery of Minnesota. And dumping Jack Skille for a solid G prospect in Salak and Frolik. Now, the fact that he re-signed Frolik was an error but the trade in the first place was a good one.
I think you are leveling too much blame on the GM and not enough on Q and his awful systems. Kitchen is an idiot and the guy probably wouldn't have an assistant job with any other team. But he's Q's buddy so he stays.
How about the players? Duncan Keith admitted he wasn't "all there" last season and this year he's been better, but surely not his 08-10 self. There are others...Kane has been disappointing, Frolik, Bickell just falling apart.
