We actually have some annoyingly positive fans that think we are still going to win the cup with this team.

Between the two common ants posters who are Rangers fans, I would say I am the more negative of the two by far, :lol
Every year I say I am going to be more positive....so maybe next year :rolleyes

Great meeting up with a few of you in realz life over the last year(s).

:thumbsup I thought to myself, "I really should give JRS a different award, he's probably getting sick of this one." But how could I? He earns it every day, and we love him for it.

Moving in with a woman was the coolest thing I ever did. Congrats. On your wedding day we will all pool money together and send you a jumbo pack of hot dogs and put "Phat Phil" as the return address. No need to thank us, you earned it.

Yeah, it is refreshing to chat hockey with people who cheer for various teams - even if the are Flyer or Penguin fans. Essentially I have 5 friends (3 Ranger fans, a Bruin fan and one guy who just likes hockey in general and cheers for the underdog because he is still pissed the Whalers left) who enjoy hockey and can talk about it like adults - I don't count my brother because I taught him everything he knows except which team to cheer for - though this year he had more fun than I even if the Pens beat his Sharks. We occasionally go to a sports bar to watch some games on the weekends and if the team is doing well the Flyer fans are out in full force rocking their Lindros or Hextall jerseys but they do not know much about the game and tend to be absent when the Flyers fade, ditto with Pittsburgh fans - though you can substitute Lindros and Hextall for Lemiux, Jagr and Crosby.. It really is great to chat with you all, it is a nice click of knowledgeable fans who are civil to one another and do not abandon their teams when they are out of the hunt. Sort of reminds me of the soccer thread on here with a nice gang of people who know their shit and support their teams through thick and thin - I have less friends interested in soccer than hockey somehow.

I do hope Barbs gets to watch Ovi hold up the Cup at some point, just so long as they do not beat the Hawks in the final! :)

And let's be serious. I'll get to watch Ovie raise the Cup one day. He'll just be doing it in like a Kings sweater or Red Wings sweater or something dumb like that. Ray Bourque style.

Hell, maybe it'll even be in an Avalanche sweater. Wouldn't that be nice, Matty?

Nah. It's just spitballing, but I could see him leaving Washington if he doesn't win one by the time the contract is up. Especially if they aren't contending anymore. He's already said he has no interest in playing until he's 40. Contract runs out at 35, I think it is.

I do not think Leonsis will ever trade him.

Go back to Russia after the contract?

Yeah, that's also definitely possible. I'm still not convinced he truly cares what kind of legacy he leaves in the NHL.

Basically because I know what a bitch it is to cheer for a team that habitually disappoints the fans. In baseball the Yankees did not win anything until I was 20 years old in 1996, the Raiders have never won in my lifetime of cheering for them in football, in hockey between the Whalers and Hawks I did not get to see my team raise a cup until I was over 30 years old. Not really going to count soccer because I have been spoiled the US women and all the european clubs I root for.

I think I believe that , too, but not in a bad way. I find him to be likely very loyal to his teammates and the logo. Could be wrong but that's how he comes across to me

I woke up today feeling really good, and for no apparent reason.

Then I saw that it was Joe Sakic's birthday.

Case closed.

That wrist shot tho.

I woke up in a really good mood, too. I knew why, though. I'm officially on vacation and don't go back to work until July 16th. A much needed break.

Well, Ovie will get to watch two banners get raised. Maybe seeing the Cup banner will inspire him.

Re: The NHL Thread

New AHL rules and you know it's always possible they creep into the NHL.

Fighting off a faceoff will result in a game misconduct. This I'm ok with. Those fights are usually staged and pointless so getting rid of them is fine by me.

The other is no timeouts allowed after icing. I'm not so sure on that one. I get what they are trying to do but if they want to use a timeout let them use it whenever. With only one per game it's part of the strategy so do I use it mid 2nd period on an icing and not have it later...

I also saw a 10 fight max. Then a 1 game suspension

Don't like no timeouts after icing either. With you there.

Ovie is the king of banners. Everyone knows that. We've earned a ton of them since he's been on board.

I also do not like the no timeout thing. The fact that there's only one makes it very strategical, limiting the options when you could use it seems dumb. But I do get the thought behind it. Just don't agree with it.

also agreed on keeping timeouts after icing.
would like to see the delay of game penalty canned though
