‏@drosennhl : Jeff Zatkoff is the first goalie on the ice for the Penguins, but he's not in the net typically reserved for the starting goalie.

Just to fuck with everyone apparently.

well of course dude, it's playoff time

he's day-to-day with an undisclosed upper/lower body injury/discomfort/tightness/soreness

Here's why I'm not too worried. The Pens have been clicking on all cylinders on offense for over a month, averaging something silly like 4.6 goals a game. Sullivan knows how to use the personnel at hand to put pucks in the net. The Rags are down their top defenseman, likely for the whole series. Hank has been playing kind of shitty down the stretch, losing his composure at times:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdGA8wXWPd0

Zatkoff can hang in there for a game or two, especially if the Pens continue to put up 3-6 goals. Pens should come out swinging tonight.

Now if Fleury and/or Murray's injuries appear to be more long term, then I'll jump in the boat with you. The Pens' offense won't be so torrid the whole series.

Considering there are only 3 games tonight it would be tough to get too much wrong today! :lol

In fairness I will give you 5 things I think will happen:

Toews, Hossa, Anisimov, Shaw, Hjalmarsson and Crawford will all be on the ice tonight - of those guys only Crawford played in the final game.

Hawks win a well played game by one goal for two reasons, Hjalmarsson and company will be sticking to Tarasenko like glue and while he is superb in net Elliot has troubles with one timers and that bodes well for Toews, Kane, Panarin, Ladd and Seabrook.

Pens beat the Rangers by at last two goals on home ice.

Bishop will play solid and carry the Bolts to a win at home.

Either the Hawks or the Bolts will end up in an OT game.

Fair? :)

:lol Can't watch that enough.

Too true. And the Power Play is definitely a concern. The Rags may take more liberties with the Pens' skaters knowing the Pens cannot do shit with the man advantage.

Nah, I feel zero pity for those guys. Minnesota loses out and the Avs STILL can't catch them? I mean, I know the Avs' final schedule was tougher, but they beat all the teams at other points during the season. Just a complete melt.

I was happy to see Roy call guys out by name, finally. He's usually so trusting, nice, and diplomatic when talking about the players. But this time he kinda ripped into the stars. Said that back when he was playing, their best players were also their leaders (Sakic, Forsberg, Foote, etc.). He said that the best players on this team - aside from Landy - are NOT leading the team, mentioning by name Duchene, MacKinnon, Johnson, and Barrie. I liked hearing that. Hopefully they'll stew about it all summer and come back hungry to prove him wrong.

or they completely stop playing for him....

not saying that's likely, but it happens fairly regularly...

I thought the same thing, but so far I've read responses from both EJ and Duchene, who seemed to take it in the chin and agree. I mean, who knows if they're just putting on a show for the press, but they said all the right things. I think the guys have a lot of respect for Patrick, but Patrick is still figuring out the best way to deal with them.

It kinda reminds me of Torts. Remember when he tried to change his ways and be a "nice" coach in Vancouver, and how that worked out? That's kind of how it's going with Patrick. His first season as coach, there was that fire that he had as a player (just ask Bruce Boudreau). The past two seasons, he's been calmer, tried to take this Yoda-ish approach. From what he's said in recent interviews, he's rethinking that approach.

EDIT: Sakic also recently said that absolutely NO player is safe this offseason. Doesn't mean he's going to blow up the team, and it's probably partly a scare tactic for the players, but I think he'll be listening to any calls from other GMs.

But anyways, sorry for bringing talk about a non-playoff POS team into this most exciting time of the year!

hey i'm rooting for Roy, i just hope he figures out how to walk that tight rope between coach and confidant

:lol Torts is the most overrated coach ever...he had a hugely talented team and won a Cup, good for him. but i mean, it was against Calgary :rolleyes

and all he's done since then is bitch and whine and lose games wherever it may have been

:lol to the bolded

Torts doesn't win that Cup in 2004 if the Flyers defense is healthy. I said it a thousand times, that 2004 Flyers team was the best this organization had since the 70's.

They are reporting Fleury's availability as a game time decision.

Have to wonder if this is a tactic by Pittsburgh to shake up the Rangers a bit or if the Pens really feel he can play. Even f he does play exactly how effective will he be. I could see him starting but if the Rangers tally a couple goals in the first period they may just pull him, or he could be as solid as ever. Who knows, certainly not any of us!

:lol:lol :thumbsup

You guys know me way to well haha.

Honestly, I would be more worried about losing 4-3 in OT after blowing a 2-0 or 3-0 lead in the third than losing 7-0 in game 1.

Either way I am trying not to over react to one game any more. I don't expect to beat the Pens either, so that makes me less worried. I do better when we are expected to lose because if we win it is awesome and if we don't, oh well, no one thought we would anyway.

i'm sure the Rangers are preparing as if Fleury is playing. and all signs are pointing to him getting the start. but we won't be getting any real info out of any coach from here on out

Yeah, I agree. Was also a shame that they lost 9 guys after the season, 1 retiring and the other 8 signing with other teams. That damn lockout probably effected the Flyers more than any other team

That said both the 2009-2010 and the 2015-1016 squads are pretty solid as well and would give those 2004 guys a run for their money.
