I cant speak from experience but that does look to be a bit of a hike (not sure about it taking 45 minutes but it might in a drunken stumble ha). I've seen plenty of people do it though. And well it would beat sitting in a car during that time waiting to get out of there especially that back parking lot.

This hotel normally gets a bus to shuttle you to and from the venue. In the past it’s like 15/20 bucks. You get to enjoy the embassy social hour with free drinks and then they drive you to venue. Can drink on bus. After show drinks are complimentary on the way home as well. Walking would be rough.

In general, that isn’t a fun terrain to walk physically

If they push you into the orange lot, which is behind the lawn, they’ll let you turn around if you ask quickly enough. Fuck that lot!

Alpine occasionally gets a 10/10 all-time show.
Deer Creek gets 8.5/10's pretty much every single time.

In fact, I can't remember the last time I left a DC show saying "meh". I'm sure others could help me out in this thread, but can't recall a stinker in a long time.

Deer Creek has that classic amphitheater in the middle of nowhere feel although it’s become incredibly developed in the past 10-15 years. Back in the 1990’s they played three nights here and there is always a special energy at Deer Creek!

Also, The Grateful Dead built a nice legacy/history for groups that are considered, “jam bands”, here. That’s a lot to live up to.

Anybody camped at glowood? Thinking about it since they offer electric hookups and may Uber to and from the show. Any input is welcome! Thanks!

I just gave in and did an AirBnB with plans to utilize the free parking or catch an Uber. I was also late to the game and couldn't find a good hotel any closer than 8-10 miles out. I didn't consider a shuttle, so I'll follow along on this thread.

Ended up with row R both nights. Section B one night and Section A another.

Been a long time since I’ve been back, what time do the lots open? Do they open early at all like they do at Alpine?

In years past, they advertise lots opening at 4pm but they are usually open at least an hour before that.

Has anyone stayed at Close-By campground? If so, what's it like?

Our crew usually camps at Dead Creek but as of now they aren't opening up this year... :( Do not want to camp at the venue camping for obvious reasons so looking at the other options still available.

Thanks!

I have in the past. It’s been a few years though. Always had a good time. Pretty chill campground. Usually some festivities going on during the day. I believe they serve free spaghetti after the show. Showers provided. Decent walk from the venue but it’s doable. They also have busses that provide transportation to/from the show.

I pulled the trigger on N1 instants at $115. Here’s to hoping after seeing so many great seats be had early!

So while we wait for further questions, I'd like to throw this out to the locals of the group.
What was your first show at Deer Creek (if you have been before) and what was your favorite show?
N1 2002 was my 1st. And the two shows that come right to mind would be N1 2006 with that opening run and N2 2012.

Love this topic.

FIRST SHOW: N2 2005. Decent show, nice little intro to Deer Creek. Did not prepare me for . . .

BEST SHOW: N1 2006. Had the full Dead Creek Campground experience at the ripe age of 19. Walked to the venue buzzing and witnessed a damn near perfect show (yes, they played Hunger for the Great Light. Oh well, it's quick).

SNEAKY GOOD: N1 2013. Really enjoyed the setlists early this tour, and this night had a lot of my favorites.

First DMB show at DC was my first, 6/30/03.

Favorite, N2 2009. Had legit front row (pre-pit), thanks AMEX presale! Also caught a drumstick from Carter!

First: 8/13/2021

Can’t wait. Have wanted to make DC for 15 years and finally doing it.

Re: *** Official Deer Creek 2020***

First show was Deer Creek 1997.

The DC 2000 N2 Two Step closer in the middle of a big storm was great. N1 2006 opening run was pretty insane, #40 and Dreaming Tree N2 capped a great weekend. Spoon 2013 ended a streak of 70 shows without hearing it. N1 2010 was special with the show running to 1am. So many great memories.

I second the comment on N1 2013. Incredible flow to that set. My first set was N2 2008 which was solid but I was burnt out on Thank You as a closer so that left a sour taste. Since I’ve had kids I haven’t been back which is sad because it’s 20x better than Northerly Island in Chicago but local shows are just easier now unfortunately.

Re: *** Official Deer Creek 2020***

First - N1 2009. First time seeing You Never Know. And if I’m not wrong, the last time it was ever played with the Carter solo intro.

Best - Tough one. Flat out best set top to bottom I’ve seen there was probably N1 2016. Best crowd was possibly N2 2012, which was a banger of a show too. Favorite moment was when they played Spoon with Brandi Carlile N2 2013.

A show no one (especially on this message board) would ever believe me was great was N1 2015. There are a whole lot of details that would raise an eyebrow but if you were there, it flat out worked. From the opening moment of aborting Whiter Shade of Pale to play the first Let You Down in 17 years, the night was a bit wild and unpredictable at all times. Hell, the encore was BOWA>Pig. Just 2 flat out greats and seeing a show close on Pig. This show had The Lovely Ladies and also saw TDs of Hunger and I Did It back to back. And yet, it was all awesome. I’m currently at 55 shows seen and a show that has me caught off guard and has me surprised throughout the night is my kind of show regardless of the songs. Loved that night.

Here's a little story from my first Creek Show. Such a fun night.

As for my favorite show. That's really tough. After so many shows the have really blurred together. So it's become more about top moments.
Spoon with Brandi
My first Creek Two Step
Space Pig
Michael Jackson jam with Robert Randolph
Let You Down

There's at least a dozen other epic moments.

Re: *** Official Deer Creek 2020***

Fool To Think in 2012 at Deer Creek was kind of funny coincidence.

Going into the 2012 tour, there were 3 songs I still hadn't seen at a DMB show, but had been cut from setlists at shows I had been at: Halloween (Cut from Creek 2009 N2), Typical Situation and Fool To Think (Both cut from Hollywood Bowl N1 2007).

I went to SPAC that year and saw my first Halloween. Boom. N1 at Deer Creek featured the liberation of Typical Situation. Scratched that one off.

The morning of N2, I was posting in here with Creek Thread Hall of Famer Cevin and said something to him about "Well, now that I've crossed those 2 off, you might as well just play Fool To Think tonight, Dave!" And Kevin was like "No way in hell that's happening".

That night DMB played the only Fool To Think of 2012 and it had that extended outro (which was FABULOUS). So happy to have that on a Warehouse disc. They've also now played it at Deer Creek in 2016 (only 3 times that tour) and 2019 (Again, the only one of the tour) since.

I like that Teh Creek gets to kind of own Fool to Think. Better than owning So Damn Lucky.
