Re: Bristow 2009
Best crowd I've seen all year hands down. In 8 shows this was the loudest most savvy DMB crowd I've had the pleasure of joining. Show was solid and it was great to meet up with friends from my hometown out west. No posters...wierd. Raven and I'll Back You Up for rarity...long outro on Watchtower...continued with the great energy from last night at Va Beach...amazing weekend.

Great encore: watch - stairway - watch.

Re: Bristow 2009
We had a blast at Nissan this year. It was rather humid, but the crowd was fun, the band was tight, and the setlist was to my liking. Very pleased to get my second LIOG this year (the first being last night at VaBeach), having gone 7 years without ever hearing it once. It did not disappoint. Other highlights were #41 (sick jam w/ Carter and Jeff), Nancies, Raven, Watchtower, and of course IBYU (came out of nowhere and was beautiful). Also worth noting is that the Big Whiskey songs are souding great live. My favorites are Seven, WIA (which makes for a great opener btw), Shake Me, and Alligator Pie (didn't get it at Nissan but got it at VaBeach and it was nasty).
One downside is that I could really do without hearing Time Bomb as a set closer. It doesn't really work, IMO. Lastly, we sat in section 205 row J, and we had the nicest family sitting in front of us. The husband and wife have to be members of this site... they were very DMB savvy and were calling out the songs even before I could. And they brought their two young kids with them; probably the kids' first show, and it was very fun watching their amazement at the spectacle of the concert. Very cool people. |
Re: Bristow 2009
the crowd was definitely into it.
one of the better crowds I've been a part of in quite a while. |

Re: Bristow 2009
I was on the lawn and thought the concert was good. The set list was excellent. One thing that annoyed me was the amount of chatting that went on during I'll Back You Up. Why come to concerts if you're going to ignore the music?

Re: Bristow 2009
Great setlist, but the sound was way too low. Dave's mic was especially low at first. I have been to sold out shows where you could hear from the parking lot. But for some reason, it seemed like many people didn't even know the show had started from the concessions stand.
#41 was nice and a bit different with more interplay between Carter and Jeff than I remember. LIOG seemed like it went direct into Shake Me. I'll Back You Up and Raven were nice surprises, although I could barely hear IBYU because of the mic issues. First time I had ever heard the either live. Burning Down The House was a lot of fun. The Watchtower with Stairway to Heaven closer was a nice treat. I rated the show a 3 mostly bc of the sound. Lots of people near me said the same. Nissan is also hell to get out of. |
Re: Bristow 2009
Completely and totally made up for the bullshit that was last year's show. Well done DMB!

Re: Bristow 2009
The band has settled into the new material well as they opened with it and it dominated the set. Dave gave two shout outs to LeRoi mentioning his passing after last year's show here and followed them with You Could Die Trying and Lie in Our Graves as tributes. The band was reflective and improvisational all night. This was the most jam-centric Dave show that I have seen. I'll Back You Up was a beautiful mid-set breather but I felt was lost on most of the crowd. #41 was an absolute monster. Boyd grabbed the jam by the horns and didn't let go, to the open amusement of Dave when he failed the reign him in well into the jam. The band lit the place on fire with Burning Down the House but let a little air out of the balloon with a curiously placed Lying in the Hands of God. Dancing Nancies revved things back up in a rocking Grey Street followed by a well performed Crash. Time Bomb closed the set and was a runner up only to #41. Squirm was a solid beginning to the encore but lacked the energy of Time Bomb. Watchtower with the Stairway segue was well executed but about as predictable a closer as it gets. Just my two cents, they need to lay off closing their shows with this song. Overall, a great show, nearly rivaling the second night of Fenway earlier this summer. Boyd gets the MVP with a close runner up to Jeff for some great interplay with Carter during many of the jams.

Re: Bristow 2009
Great show. Worst crowd ever! Cellphones and drunk couples should be banned from DMB shows.

It was so awesome, it brought me out of lurk to finally post on here, lol. We had an incredible time. Great vibe throughout, the Watchtower/Stairway was icing on the already tasty cake. Wish we were heading down to Fl. and not back up in Jersey right now. :(

Otherwise, I thought it was a really great show. I was glad that Dave mentioned Roi. Two nights in a row where Boyd was out of control on LIOG. The emotion he played with was something I haven't seen before. Brought tears to my eyes. |
Re: Bristow 2009
Had a great time on the right side of the lawn facing the stage. Great atmosphere.

Nah, I dont think it was shitty. I enjoy the show regardless of the setlist...I was just bitter that the show seemed so short, and it all seemed flat to me. I was also in the lawn and I havent been in lawn for at least 6 years now. |

nissan's parking lot - the worst. IBYU was really low, and everyone talking during it was annoying. All that said, this was my second time seeing dave, (saw him two years ago as i said at nissan), and this beat the first time by a mile! I thought it was a great show. I'm not even that big of a fan of the new CD, but as i predicted, live those songs are pretty damn good. Why I am was a great intro, and the two covers rocked! I was jumping around like an idiot during all along the watchtower. but the show did seem a little short. |
Re: Bristow 2009
the 2 va shows were both short for some reason...but great shows and last night was a ton of fun!!
|
Re: Bristow 2009
I was in the grass for both VA shows. VA Beach was great, but Bristow was freakin amazing. Great setlist and energy. I thought the crowd was excellent. Nancies was great, first time I heard it w/o Warehouse following. Raven and I'll Back You Up were gems. I expected Ants after Timebomb, but Timebomb flew up my ranks of new songs. #41 was amazing and the Watchtower-Stairway was priceless...I loved Dave screaming the last verse of Stairway, awesome stuff.
Sidenote: Jimi Thing and Two Step from VA Beach were sensational, esp. Jimi Thing. DavE was going off and the solos were badass. Cant wait till next years shows!!! |
Re: Bristow 2009
No doubt the sound is better inside. There were a lot of people sneaking into our section. Since we were row C who ever got in had to try to squeeze into row B or A ahead of us. Now that is not generally an issue for me, but if you do, be respectful of the people behind you who paid good money for their seat.

Re: Bristow 2009
Anyone know why there were no posters? Anyone have the show to share?
That was by far the best show I've seen in a long time. Graves brought me to tears. Roi was totally with them the whole night. NIce to see JEff Coffin creating his identidy with the band. |
