FLAC files are very similar to .shn files. Both require a tool to convert to wav format.

SHN files can be converted to wav with the mkwACT tool
(learn more by reading the shn FAQ)

FLAC files can be converted to wav with Flac Frontend (also available here <- also contains pictures and a few tips on what to do should you get an error message)

So this post is really just to put this on the front page again to ask if this could be stickied? I needed to know what would convert .flac. And look what a simple search for "flac conversion" turned up.

just so you all know I d/l a show in flac for the first time the other day and I was freaking cause I didn't know how to convert it. Sure enough, it was on the front page and I got it converted lickety split. If you look the answer is there.

I am having some trouble here. I dl'd FLAC frontend, but the error message that i get says flac.exe not found. I went to the site it says to go to http://flac.sourceforge.net/ , but I can't find it there. Can anyone help???

I did look on this page. i know you are thinking what a moron I am, but I am looking on that page for something that says "flac.exe" Am I just missing it each time I look, or does it have a different name to it. Thanks in advance for the help.

either one of these should work ... i don't ever remeber having to get flac.exe ... thought it came with the windows installer.

hey guys, hope some people see this.
I get the 5-09-05 show off of dreamingtree in flac, 24 bit. Something like that. I finally figured out that I had to get flac frontend and downloaded that. I got the files "decoded" to wav but windows media player will not recognize them. I cannot seem to get these problems solved. When I tried to try to convert the new wavs to some other type of file with dbpoweramp, I get this message:
"The CODEC required to compress 'C:\Documents and Settings\William\Desktop\dmb2005-05-09.dpa4022.flac24\dmb2005-05-09t11.wav.TEMP.wav' could not be opened."

any one have any answers?

It sounds like you don't have the proper codec downloaded to convert the wav file into something else.

i went to the site which this program provides. The site is called codec central. I have already downloaded the flac codec on there. Also, I downloaded a different show in flac16 and it worked fine. All I had to do is decode and it worked fine in windows. Is there something I have to get in order to decode flac24?

I was hoping you folks could help me out. When I goto decode the Flac files, I get "ERROR while decoding State = Flac_Stream_Decoder_read_Frame"


I have no idea what that means, I've tried re-installing but to no avail. I downloaded two shows before and they worked fine. now I have this problem. Could anyone help me?

did you "test" the tracks with flac?

did you verify the ffp file?

I was also wondering a good program to burn the cd's onto, apparently I've used NERO in the past, and it's not free anymore and my demo expired, so are there any other good programs that keep the great sound quality of the flac's and other files? Thanks for all this help by the way, I've gotten done just about everything I wanted except the cd!

Yes, the full shows got downloaded.

I tested them. Same problem.

I have no idea how to verify it
