20+ Minutes of DMB with the Symphony Orchestra from 1995

So this has been on YouTube (but unlisted) for some time now. Somehow, Copperpot was able to get his hands on 20+ minutes of DMB w/ the Symphony Orchestra from back in February of 1995.

As the story goes, the Symphony Orchestra owns the rights to these shows and that is presumably why we haven't gotten a live release of either of them. It's really amazing. I highly suggest sitting down and listening to/watching it (perhaps with a nice drink - if you drink). Unfortunately, we do not have the full show, but thanks to Copperpot we have a pretty decent length video/audio. I won't spoil any songs.

Supposedly, somewhere, someone (from back in the elite trading days), has the full soundboard/video of this show, but nobody has come forward. In any event, enjoy what we do have thanks to Copperpot!

Fun fact - At about 8:00 you can see John D'Earth sitting in the front row with sheet music. If memory serves me correctly, he composed the orchestra's parts.

so would the whole show be among hardcores part of their "holy grail" lists of things to have relating to all things DMB?

Thanks for posting.

Yes, I would think so.

There is taper audio available from both of these shows but my recollection is that the quality is terrible (probably from converting and trading for many years). The initial source is likely decent enough but don't think it's accessible.

Boyd looks like a businessman with the trench coat and short haircut. LOL.

Just finished it. It’s a fantastic watch. So cool. I noticed the clip of D’Earth at the end is from the same interview(s) as the VH1 Driven Doc. Would not only love to see the whole Richmond Orchestra performance but now also that whole John D’Earth interview.

Fundraising is a constant priority for orchestras like the RSO. If RSO does own the rights to these shows and has quality recordings, making it available for purchase would be a huge fundraising success for them.

With the amount of money the band has its surprising to me they don’t buy the rights and send RSO off with a nice fat check.

Yeah, audio quality wasn't awesome but back in the B&P days we weren't (as) uppity about it. Some of the arrangements were cool, some were a bit on the lazy side. It was just something different than the norm that was really pleasant to enjoy.

I would imagine this has fallen way off of both sides radar.

I still have one of those aud recorded-tapes from back in the B&P days, and yeah--quality is terrible, but it was an interesting listen.

Thanks for posting this source, OP! Really nice to hear/see this with good quality. Hope the whole source emerges eventually.

Fun fact about these shows :

These 2 shows with the Orchestra (2.14/15.95) are the closest DMB have ever come to playing completely identical sets.

The only difference between the two shows are the encore. Say Goodbye N1, #36 N2.

Thought y'all might be interested in that.

But perhaps you weren't.

Either way, now you know :hug

God I need more of that Typical Situation. The little clip they showed of it sounded so damn good with the orchestra. If we could get one highlight from the RSO shows, it'd better be Typical.

Thank you. I don't say it enough but I love this community. Such a great treat to see this after a rough day. Typical OMG I'd love to hear soundboard of the full version.

Why can't Capshaw do us a solid like find a way to release these shows. They could do something like all the proceeds from this show goes to a charity(ies) of RSO's choice or something like that.

So much smaller than I had pictured it

Still neat to see after all these years

Would love to see this as an LT some day!

Listened/watched it last night after reading this post... different... but not great.. the symphony was overbearing at times... A lot of dissonant noise and notes that clashed... I honestly did not like it and do not wish for it to ever be officially released.. This free peak into it does it enough justice..
