Wow, way to go Pens. Gave James Neal a six-year, $30 million extension

pretty good deal, he would have gotten much more on the open market.

Seems like a bargain for Neal, but I have to wonder what the long term consequences are for Sid, Malkin, and Staal.

they'll have the room. as it stands now, they'll be under the cap by about 3 mill next season if it doesnt go up at all. sid is due after next season. they offered hossa around 7 mil, and neal is younger and just as productive.

also have to take into consideration that some guys, (paul martin and his 5 mil contract) wont be around for long.

Columbus asked the Bruins for Rask, Lucic, Hamilton (Bruins best defensive prospect), and a 1st for Nash. :lol If the price is anywhere close to that I feel bad for the team that trades for him.

Correction on the cap number: We have 4.6 million free with the cap staying at the same number. With that money we need to replace Matt Niskanen (or re-sign him), Richard Park, Aaron Asham, and Steve Sullivan.

I could very well see Ray keeping Martin until our core guys get their new deals, in which we'd be operating like the Hawks did in their Cup run. We'd have a bunch of guys playing on old deals, with new deals already signed, and we'd effectively be playing at an advantage over other clubs in that we are legally playing over the salary cap for our team.

I really hope the Pens resign Lovejoy. I think he's due year after next., so I hope we don't trade him before then. I've followed him through the AHL, many of the Pens for that matter.

edit: we also have to hold onto Orpik and Letang. their contracts are done after the 2013-2014 season i believe. might be tough to, unfortunately.

Huge overpayment on Nash there.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Burke met with Howson in New York today. Strange considering they were in Vancouver last night and Toronto doesn't play until Tuesday in Toronto.

If I'm burke I'm not willing to cough up whatever absurd overpayment Howson wants, but I'd trade Schenn, Kadri, Grabo and a pick for it. There is little leeway in terms of what I'm willing to give up.

I read the other day that most teams are so frustrated with Howsons demands that they've left the table entirely. As such, I don't see a move happening before the deadline, if at all.

hey, do any of you guys buy the authentic jerseys, or do you stick with the premier? i'm just curious to see how the authentic fits

Me thinks the Pens may have cap problems soon. Talk the cap may actually go down, and who knows what Staal or Crosby will want.

bradshaw06 02-19-2012 10:59 AM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

probably not, cant see Crosby asking for anything other than 8.7, he is too superstitious. and Staal might get a slight raise. our core will still be in place.

Premier, but I get them blank and have my local hockey shop sew the name plate/number on it. I don't like the iron-on decal name/number.

The authentic ones fit weird in the shoulders without shoulder pads on.

Cap very well may go down. Don't see how it won't in the next couple years.

Seems a bit much for Neal if salaries end up rolling back a bit. Then again, if he continues to develop into a perennial ppg player it will be a great deal for Pens.

I tried on an authentic AHL jersey (not Reebok, though), and that seemed like it fit ok. I didn't notice any difference in the shoulder. Interesting insight here, though. Thanks, man. I'm also watching the Black Hawks right now. Kind of bummed I can't watch my Pens out here in WI.

Currently, the asking price for Rick Nash is too high for Philly says Darren Dreger of TSN. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=388246

And he's right.
