Poor damn Flyers getting even more banged up when Gudas had to leave making Philly play with 5 defensemen. Still great game, both teams (specifically the goalies) played damn good!

I didn't get a chance to watch much of the game (we had the World Series on in the office last night). They're a super fast team, but still some of the same defensive problems loom. At least now most of it can be blamed on youth and not a lack of talent.

You missed a really good game man. Elliot and Crawford were dueling each making highlight reel type saves in key spots - especially on the PK's. Crawford stopped 35 out of 35 while Elliot stopped 32 out of 34 and got unlucky because he actually did make a nice save to block the initial shot but it literally skipped right to a waiting Anisimov who basically just tapped it in. Provorov looked really solid as well and I think you guys lost a little momentum when a shot hit Simmonds in the leg and he never looked right after that - seemed slower, less lethal with the puck and more hesitant to crash the net than I am used to seeing him.

Males two of us - for the first say three games the Toews, Panik, Saad combo was amazing to watch.

Rangers north managed to beat the Rangers south last night in front of a home crowd.

Varly made 57 saves last night, and Avs personalities can’t stop talking about how great it is. And yes, it’s an amazing feat, and also cool to see Varly playing well...

But guys, let’s not gloss over the fact that the Avs - while MUCH improved - allowed SIXTY shots on net last night. SIXTY. Against the HURRICANES.

And what’s crazy is I consider their defense to be MUCH better than it was last season.

Was this a triple OT game? Did they suspend regular season OT rules last night just for this game? That's the only reason you should ever give up 60 shots.

Pens finally at least get points on the second night of a back to back and played a good game. Now 0-4-1 on those. Jarry looked solid last night. Have to think he stays up the rest of the year.

Just an absolute joke theyve had 5 through the first month. And still have 13 more to go.

Must be really tough being the defending back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions. Hopefully the Pens won't have to be burdened with that next season.

:lol I know youre just giving me a hard time, but theres no way any team under any circumstance should have to deal with that, even if they missed the playoffs the year before.

No, their defense needs some help but otherwise that team looks pretty solid to me. Maybe they are not playoff caliber just yet and Duchene probably gets moved (would be great for CO to get a three way deadline deal done that lands them a top tier D Man) but I believe they can certainly play spoiler to even the best of teams. Last week against the Hawks I saw how solid their O and goaltending was in that win but their D still needs some help to take them from a middle of the pack team to a playoff team.

Who knows, they may be knocking on the door for the playoffs. But yeah, not prepared for a deep run. Even so, this team finally has an identity and are playing with a lot of confidence. Their run-and-gun style will lead to high shot totals against, but at least they're owning it. Bednar's done a great job with a young team that he actually got to select this year (Part of the disaster of last year was him trying to run a fast-tempo system while being stuck with guys like Jarome Iginla and Francois Beauchemin on the team).

I hope they can move Duchene soon, for everyone's sake. I know Sakic isn't in a hurry, and so far his patience and small tweak moves have been mostly positive, but it will be best to move the guy. Duchene started off strong, but has tailed off the last handful of games and looks a little checked out. I'm not seeing that fire from him that was always such a huge part of his game.

Ovi going to get some shit for this one I think:

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin says he isn't trying to make a political statement by voicing his support for Vladimir Putin ahead of the Russian presidential election.

Ovechkin posted a message in Russian on his Instagram account Thursday, saying that he's starting "a social movement called Putin Team. Ovechkin added that he has never hidden his feelings about Putin and has "always supported him openly."

Duchesne was close to going to Ott it sounds like. Would have been a 3 team deal with Nashville as well.

Seriously, yawn.

I'm so over the speculation and "insiders" that "break" these things. They're reporting, if you want to call it that, on speculation and hearsay. I get that there's an appetite for that nowadays, but that doesn't mean it's the right thing or the best thing.

Dreger essentially killed this trade. People saying "that's his job" like it's defendable. To a certain extent, I get it. He has a boss, this is what the people want, whatever. I just don't get the need for this. What difference does it really make if we know an hour before it actually happens? It's like a bunch of crack addicts. Honestly.

Wake me up when something actually happens. Not this "sources say" nonsense.

Totes. A later tweet from Dreger talked about how damaging it can be to a relationship between player and team when news of these failed trades break.

If Corey Crawford is not one of the players of the week something is wrong. Wednesday night against Philly and tonight against Minnesota he earned 2 shutouts making highlight reel saves on all 59 shots against him. He is just in the zone!

Wow Oilers must really suck if the Wings are beating them like this. Of course I say that and Wings probably blow the lead in the third.
