??? Who said anything about that hit haha. It sucks, but good on the Caps for a snipper shot to end it. Game 2 is a must win for us.

Solid effort on the road. Way too many great chances for the rags tho.

Glad there was no post game 7 let down.

And I would agree game 2 is crucial for the Rangers. If the Caps can win Saturday that's a big hole to dig out of. (Again, it is the Capitals and they always reserve the right to melt)

Joel Ward is literally the best post game interview

When asked about the Ovie goal: "eh it was average"

When asked "what's Russian for I'm open?": "OVIE!!!!!"

When asked what went through his head when he saw the puck go in: "didn't see it. Saw the guys celebrating and jumped in"

Love this guy.

That was a tough loss. Ovi had a real strong game. Must be lovin life with no Boychuk on the ice.

:lol :lol Nice.

You know the GIF of the fat kid in the striped shirt at the NJ Nets game from a few years ago? I may have partially re-enacted it after Ward-o's GWG last night.

I mean Dan Girardi is gonna shadow him just like Boychuk did. Every team the Caps have played in a series has essentially devoted their best defenseman to shadowing Ovie. What Boychuk did wasn't out of the ordinary at all.

Looks like Howie is staying with the Wings. Kinda surprised but not really. His value would be higher now but a combined salary for the two of them is $6mil next year. Some teams pay one guy that. I did have a worry about what if Mrazek has a sophomore slump so this helps that. Also probably trading him to the Oilers might be tough if Babs goes there. lol

Although obviously just 1 game, my point seemed to go over your head about how Boychuk was clearly much more effective in keeping him off the score sheet and affecting the game's outcome. Ovi had 5 points all series and was a minus player. He gets 2 points in game 1 and hit iron once and was a key to victory. He had 1 game like that vs. us in 7 games. That's all.

Boychuk did it better than just about anyone though. After watching last night's game I have a tremendous new respect for Boychuk.

Still, Girardi and McDonagh are no easy task for a forward.

There's no doubt Boychuk did an outstanding job. Especially in the absence of Hamonic, dude was truly a beast. Wasn't detracting from that at all. Just saying life isn't about to get easy for Ovie by any means.

Someone on twitter pointed out that Ovie seemed to be interested in the big hits in the first round and less about shooting.

Just judging from 1 game, but this series doesn't look like it's gonna be nearly as physical as round one. I think Ovie was trying to get his shots off in round one, but Boychuk did fabulous and it was an incredibly physical series. So he just kinda played his hand as best he could. That's what I saw.

Still took 28 shots in the 7 games.

If game 1 is any indication, he's on track for 42 in 7 games now. I know that will change but..just saying.

Seems the media really wants to make Backstrom's hit at the end last night into a big deal. I just don't see it. If the puck doesn't end up going in 4 seconds later, the hit is not even mentioned by anyone.

But had 8 shots in games 1 and 4 so a total of 12 in the other 5 combined.

Re: The NHL Thread

Didn't see it but I'd be worried if I were you. I mean there were plenty of hits to th head in the Wings/TBL series and one of the weakest ended up in a game 7 suspension because everyone was talking about it. I can point to 3 times when TBL players took a run at Wings players heads and no one talked about it in the media so....

I think he wanted to set a record for uncalled boards/charges/crosschecks, etc in 1 series. He might have gotten there. :D
