DMB to play the Cricket Wireless Amphitheater (formally Coors Amphitheater) on Friday 9/07/12 with opener Allen Stone. Tickets go on sale through the Warehouse on 2/16. The public on-sale date is 3/09 at 10am. According to the website it is 10am EST but that will be changed to PDT.

Plan on hanging out with us at the tailgate, it's a great one. Hope to see you there. :thumbsup

Anyone have a hotel they would recommend for after the show? I know there are a bunch listed in the near the venue but I've never stayed in the area.
Thanks,

hmmm....do not know this and very interested....If 3 hours of traffic to get there is not bad enough....the last 20 minutes getting in really sucks

I'll see if I can dig up the thread from 2010 and find my write-up on the directions in it. If not, I will lay out some directions in here. It makes the last part breeze by actually.

Back in the earlier 2000's Chula Vista show was the venue to hit, but over the last few years, maybe since it's close to where Stefan lives, Irvine seems to have taken over as the top SoCal venue. To me, Chula Vista is a much better venue. They have a better parking lot, less cops, tailgate friendly, and you don't have to walk a mile to get to your seats.

Irvine sucks.....very boring venue and sometimes the cops are just dickheads

Big props to Adam for getting the thread started. :thumbsup

I agree with the sentiment about Chula being a better venue then Irvine. Even if the Chula shows over the last few years have not had the same pop as say 5-7 years ago, I still hit this venue as it is easily the best in the SoCal area. The 02 and 06 shows stand out as some the best. My ultimate desire would be 2 nights here and no Irvine. And I live 15 minutes from Irvine.

To the post about traffic getting out, there are tricks to getting around it. Adam mentioned the back way in and out. It is relatively new and is a great option. The other key is where you park at this venue. With parking literally on all 4 sides being in the correct lot is huge. I always park above the venue, in the dirt lot. Another option is the WH preferred parking, but you will deal with tons of people walking to the other lots getting to their cars. Avoid at all costs the dirt lot below the venue. I parked their one year, and it took me over an hour to just get to the main street.

In the end, come early, tailgate, enjoy a great summer night in Chula, and enjoy a little DMB with 20000 of your closest friends.

Hello Chula Vista. Sadly I won't be making a trip down for Chula Vista. However, I created a contact list anyway and I have updated information on my website about Chula and the Ants tailgating spot. Please let me know if there's any updates or adds that I can do. www.toupstown.com

A lot of great info!! I'm doing all the cali shows and it'll be my first time on the west coast. I hope to meet some ants while I'm there and if there's any obvious info I should know, let me know :D

Re: ***Chula Vista 09/07/12***

So the parking lot we have the tailgate in is a great lot to get in and out of easy. I also believe it is the same lot that Ben mentioned. It is the south lot and is easiest. Also, thanks to Brian for providing links to help with our planning. He has offered the Toups Town site for us to use, so be sure and thank him. I will be putting up more info on the tailgate as we inch closer to the date. We will be in the same spot we always are so if you have been there before, you'll know how to find us.

www.toupstown.com for info on the Chula Vista tailgate. We tailgate in the blue area on this map here: http://www.toupstown.com/CA_Chula_Vista.php This is also a great lot to get in and out of the venue with relative ease. Hope to see y'all there, it's gonna be a blast. :monkey

I'm going to post a way to get to the venue the easy way. This is just a copy and paste because I am not tech savvy.

Easy remedy for this folks. Being a local, I don't let this info out too often. Here is a quick way to get to the show and avoid all the traffic.

Head down the 5 South to the 905 East. Take it until you get to some traffic lights, about 4-5 miles. Turn left at Heritage Rd. (there will be a traffic light at Heritage). Make your first left, it will look like you are going into junk yard row. Hang the first right (only way the street goes) and this street will bring you up from the south side of the amphitheatre. As well, it will put you closest to the tailgate area as well. Just hang the first left into the venue and then another left into the parking lot, and then one more left to take you to the tailgate.

Sounds difficult but it is real easy. No traffic, except the few locals that know about the "back way".

Map to the tailgate is in my signature below.

Happy weekend to everyone. Chula LoVE!

I was looking at this on Google Maps, couldn't I just stay on Heritage Rd the whole way and then make a left on the first Entertainment Circle?

You can but you end up going through all of junkyard row and the other way is easier. Lotsa people trying to find the junkyard they are looking for. I have just found it to be easier hanging that left. But you'll still make it going the other way.

Well, Alpine is a huge venue and Chula is a cookie cutter amphitheater. Almost 20,000 people in a decent setting and the band has shown a lot of love over the years to the venue, but the last couple have been rocky for some reason. Great tailgate with a lot of Ants showing up every year. There is a link to find it in my signature below. Make sure and come out for the tailgate, look forward to meeting you.

Peace, Adam

Hey, i live in San Diego now (for the last 4 years, moved from Chicago). Having been to 100 shows all over the US, I can tell you Chula Vista is def not one of the better venues. Since you've lived in chicago I can tell you it compares to the world (verizon) amphitheater, but with better overall sound. The tailgating is decent though, less strict than other venues. The one problem is that Chula Vista is near the border of mexico and thus you have to drive quite a distance (From SD) to see the show. Also, can get pretty cool at night since out in desert like conditions. Should still be epic as it will be close to end of the tour!!

sure was easy to get pit tickets today with the pre-sale, I wish Irvine had better chances of getting decent seats, but I didn't want to sit that far back

It only took me a week to get my card, not sure how long the pre-sale is going on for... go ahead and apply if you are wanting to go to somewhere other the Chula Vista.... unfortunately, I am sure you know, but they are held at Will Call and the credit card holder has to pick them up. If you are wanting to go to Chula I am will to try and buy them for you as long as you pay me first on Paypal, plus whatever extra charges they charge these days.

I am hoping to hit up san diego and spend a week or so in cali, going to various places... LA, Laguna etc. anyway, how is this venue? I will prob end up w/ lawn, no use paying $100 for a ticket when it's not even up close. I will be ready to see dmb after being stuck a year in a damn sand box of kuwait

Should still be epic as it will be close to end of the tour!!

just how far from san diego is it? was thinking it was close

On the 1st page I put driving directions to help you get into the venue while avoiding almost all the traffic. It isn't real far from town imo. It is on the south side of the county though, no doubt.

Got PIT tix through Warehouse...but just went dicking around with the pre-sale....74 Pit tickets still available? Is it safe to say the Warehouse and Pre-sale got all the Pit tickets? How many people does this Pit hold?

No way that all the Pit tickets would be given to the WH and Citi. LiveNation owns the venue so you can bet some were definitely held back for their own release. The Pit is one of the better Pits as far as I could tell. Not too crowded in 2010 compared to some of the other venues. I'm not sure the # that the Pit holds but I think we had a total number so if you want to dig out the Chula thread from 2010 you might be able to find out that info.

Directions for easy access to the venue, i.e. very little traffic.

Up until 2009 the shows were pretty amazing. Then the last couple years have been ho hum. Here is a chart with what they have played there over the years: http://www.dmbalmanac.com/VenueStats.aspx?vid=912

No, I hit up the Gorge and Chicago Lakeside last year. Plus a couple of Dave and Tim shows and a Dave solo show.

I agree that they should be well rested after having Mon-Thur off. :monkey

Scored 6 pit seats thru the Citi pre-sale! Wasn't originally planning on going to Chula since we got a 2 year old at home and was already going to Irvine but seeing how easy it was to get such great seats plus since its a Friday night it was TOO AWESOME to pass up! I agree with whoever said that early 2000's were hotter shows here vs late 2000's. I hope the band brings it back!!!

Me too! Last time I was at Chula Vista they didn't have a pit if I am remembering correctly. I'm pretty sure it was all seating. I hope they don't try to shove 2000 people in the pit.

I hope not either, I thought someone mentioned in here that it wasn't too bad the last time they had PIT seating.

Either way i am pumped up, can't wait for September!

Pit tickets are still available on LiveNation! just scored 2!

This might be a dumb question... but do you guys it would be hard to find someone at the show in the 100's section willing to trade their tickets for pit tickets? My girlfriend had major knee surgery a few months back and might have trouble standing for 3 hours straight. 100's would still have a great view, with the added comfort of a chair for her.

I am sure you will be able to find someone if you search hard enough, i'd find it hard to believe someone out there in those 3 sections wouldn't switch with you.

First, the concert isn't for 6 months. But if she is still having problems, all you have to do is show up at the venue, let them know your situation, and they will put you in the "handicapped section". I broke my foot one year and had to do that at this venue. No probs at all. I think it is the front row of the 200 section if I'm not mistaken. good view though.
