Belly Belly Nice is everything SMLAM should have been

Funky, fresh, in-your face and fun without the awkwardness or cringe-inducing lyrics (okay the "belly jelly" bit at the end sucks, but oh well). This sounds like the band I first fell in love with

They sound pretty similar to me. The only difference I see is that BBN has translated better live.

Rooftop does upbeat much better than both of them. That said, I like both BBN and SMLAM.

Exactly how I feel. SMLAM blows live, but BBN is awesome...I like it more live than studio.

My exact thoughts. Still like the studio cut though :thumbsup

I love the song, but I don't necessarily agree with how it was recorded. It feels like a guitar driven tune, but the guitars come across as very subdued or neutered and I think the song lacks energy on the album because of that. But Boyds part sounds great on the album though.

I live BBN alot and to me it sounds like SMLAM part II (which I don't consider a bad thing). But what makes them different? I get why people like BBN, but then the same people often trash SMLAM. Can anyone explain why?

I know SMLAM hasn't translated well live (and BBN has) but comparing the 2 studio cuts to each other I just don't get how you could like one and not the other - they're incredibly similar musically, structurally, lyrically, etc

BBN's music isn't bad. The lyrics are awful. Even SMLAM's are better.

Hoping it's just how the song came across in the stream...but in my opinion, the mix on this particular song seems way off.

I still don't understand how fans of DMB tunes like Too Much/Sweet Up and Down don't dig this. It's essentially Too Much written for this lineup. The lyrics aren't "clever," but I feel like they fit the song.

Boyd nailed this track. Finally a violin solo that sounds original. Steven shined on the bass too.

Solid point but he is right. They are essentially the same song imo. Boyd gets better work in on BBN but Shake Me's lyrics are probably better.

Imo, BBN's lyrics are better, but to each their own..

The background vocals on this song are hands down the worst part of the album. I like the song but those background vocals should not have been included on the album, make it almost unlistenable.

this. first time I heard it i thought it was SMLAM's twin brother. its essentially the same song. the production value on both BBN and SMLAM are great...i dont care what anyone says, studio Shake Me is very fucking good

BBN is better live than the album. I love the song. Top 5 off the album upon a first listen

Agreed, really my only problem with the record so far, because the song fucking slams live, and this recording did not do that justice, whereas the rest of the record...slams.

For the record, there's now way Shake Me's lyrics are better, and that comes from a fan of Shake Me.

"Oh, the light that shines upon the gift that everyone has for the taking
and happiness so pure as this is surely worth the making."

That alone makes it better haha.
