Because I felt that Johnny Hockey was a little overrated and that picking up Weegar was a better fit for the Flames. Jonathan Huberdeau for Tkachuk canceled out the loss of either for both teams (or that was the thinking at the time). Florida with the spark from Tkachuk has the talent to be much better than they currently are.

Also, it wasn't like my take was really crazy, most of the NHL analysts felt both teams may have found a way to get better and should be good this year. It didn't wortout that way.

Some. Less than you would think.

I think his contract is so much to absorb that it makes him hard to move.

Other than that, I felt it was a good spirited game from both teams. You can definitely tell we are getting into the final stretch of the season.

Distinct kicking motion. Like kicking a soccer ball.

Man, if that wasn't a distinct kicking motion on that goal I just don't know what we are doing anymore with that rule. You are not really going to get much more of a kicking motion than that on skates.

I am actually being serious that if we are going to allow that goal last night to be okay, I am totally in favor of just allowing kicking goals to count. It will improve scoring and take away the annoyance of having to figure out what the NHL means by "distinct kicking motion" on any given play/day.

Rangers get Tarasenko.

https://www.blueshirtbanter.com/2023...st-louis-blues

Quote:

Word emerged early Thursday afternoon that a deal sending Tarasenko from St. Louis to the Rangers was imminent, and after a lot of waiting and Twitter refreshing the deal was confirmed. Niko Mikkola is also heading to the Rangers, and he will most likely be the team’s new third-pair LHD.

To acquire these players the Rangers parted with a conditional 2023 first-round pick, Sammy Blais (acquired in the Pavel Buchnevich trade) a conditional 2024 fourth-round pick in the 2024 draft, and defensive prospect Hunter Skinner.

It was an awesome game to watch! It blows my mind that it has been a little over 15 years since I lived in Boston and went to Northeastern. That used to be top priority to get tickets and watch that tourney!

It was cool to see Harvard vs Northeastern in the final for the first time and especially cool to see Northeastern win it (even though I don't really identify with Northeastern since going to Rutgers and becoming a Rutgers alum. It was a huge part of my life though!)

For anyone interested in watching Dustin’s banner ceremony. At the end, they brought out the Cup. Which I don’t know of them doing that before for a banner / retirement ceremony. Truly special moment and one that Dustin didn’t know was happening.

Personally, it was an emotional, exciting night. Got to go down on the ice after the game and take pictures with the banner and the Cup. Then party all night. A few players from the Cup winning teams came in, even ones actively playing on other teams, which I thought was cool.

Hours after they announced that both players would be held out for trade reasons, the Washington Capitals sent Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway to the Boston Bruins on Thursday.

I like having Orlov, they're not paying him the full contract and picks in hockey are not like football. After their D performance tonight, he'll be a welcome addition. We'll see how they help.

Usually you go all in when you are a player or so away but the Bruins are absolutely rolling this year. Even though they do have some older players they have enough younger talent where even if the older guys start leaving they can still add pieces on the fly and so I would keep assets.

Re: The NHL Thread

So I am sitting in a hotel in Montreal doing some work watching the Rangers game before heading the Habs v Sens game later tonight; Seems like a great time to have a classic Greg Rangers melt.

The Rangers are obsessing about bringing in Patrick Kane, but they have way bigger issues. Currently down 3-1 to the Caps, the Rangers poor defense, shaky starting goaltending (which I can't believe I am saying) and poor starts to games are on full display. You can have a high powered offense and bring in Kane, but what good does that do you if you can't keep the puck out of the net consistently. The Oliers have tried to win a Cup doing that the past few years and it doesn't work.

With Lindgren likely out a while, I think NY should be focused on tightening up the D rather than bringing in a huge defensive liability like Kane. I obviously will be excited if the Kane trade happens, but I have been down this road with the Rangers a lot in my life. It will almost be impossible for that trade not to blow up in New Yorks face. They would basically need to win the cup for it not to be a bust.

The Rangers are looking like they are about to lose their 4th straight game for the first time since November. However, it is worse than that as the last 2-3 games before the losing streak they were also down big early in every game (by 2-4 goals) before needing to make huge comebacks. That does not seem like a very good team to me right now.

Edit: 4-1 now...ugh

avalanche just sent F prospect shane bowers to boston for goalie keith kinkade, who will report to the avs AHL affiliate. not sure the purpose of the trade. avs #2 goalie francouz has been out with a LBI, but they already have 2 AHL goalies they've been bouncing back and forth. i guess kinkaid has more NHL experience, but idk if he is any better than what the avs already had available.

Yeah, I'm not sure I get that trade

They must not think Annunen is ready to be the full-time backup

Edit: And trading away forward depth is also something Colorado should not be doing right now given how injury prone their top ... uh ... 12 forwards have been this year :lol Haven't had Landeskog since he lost the blade of his skate blocking a shot in game 6!

Rangers traded Kravtsov to the Canucks

I presume that's to make space for Kane

The Kings were supposed to have my dads bday on the jumbotron during Dustin’s banner game. But somehow it wasn’t there. So we called our rep and my dad just got a birthday card with some goodies and the card was signed by Luc Robitaille. A bit better than a birthday wish on the screen!

NHL YouTube channel with a video including every goalie goal, including Ullmark:

Edit: First one is an own goal by Rob Ramage and the Colorado Rockies and while I was a wee baby when they existed, based on their reputation, yeah, that tracks :lol

Timo Meier's agent is Claude Lemieux, someone who has history with the Devils and, incredibly briefly, the Sharks

Yes.

So I found out here:

According to sources, the Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights were the finalists in the talks for Meier. Those teams were not given permission to speak with Meier's agent, Claude Lemieux, about a potential extension, a source told ESPN.

https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/...r-trade-sharks

He's an agent for 4sports Hockey. It's him. Here's his pic on their page (Foppa involved, too, but not as an agent):

JBB has proven that overpaying for guys he wants on cheap deals and/or he can re-sign for not a lot is a winning strategy. Fuck the picks. And Foote sucks.

Jeannot is also exactly the type of guy whose play is built for the playoffs.
