Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
Caps controlled the puck well, skated better and had better opportunities. The luck has to regress to the mean at some point....right?

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
Bonino is a Capital killer. Huge win for the Pennnns. They needed one in Washington and got it out of the way early. But the Caps look plenty good. That last minute and a half took months off my life. Lot of work to be done.
^ One thing I learned playing poker is no one is ever due for anything. Washington has to make it happen for themselves. They can't control the refs. But if they keep working the way they are, they will get their breaks. |
Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
I'm so sick of so many threads in The Tailgate turning into hockey vs. everyone else. So obnoxious.

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
Pretty frustrating loss just now. But I do think if the Caps can play like that all the time this series they will win it. That was truly terrible stuff from the ref to blow the play dead. Just excruciatingly poor stuff. The Niskanen penalty isn't much better. But if I'm gonna try to be positive, there were a lot of good things in the part of the game I watched. Sounds like for the most part the whole game was like that outside the first ten minutes and then Crosby's goals. I do wish Holtby could've come up with a huge stop on the Bonino play but I don't blame him for the goal certainly.
Overall a well played game from the Caps. Just keep doing that. |

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
Well that sucked, both teams I was cheering for tonight (Rangers and Caps) lost via late goals. Least Edmonton beat the damn ducks last night though.

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
Mattaa probably could have gotten the puck out on that sequence. Assuming johannson wasnt holding it for as long as he was.

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
Crazy crazy game.
I agree the Niskanen penalty was weak, and that whole sequence was botched terribly. I'm not sure who it was but there was a penguin lying on the puck for a couple seconds and the whistle should've blown them and probably been a penalty. Then they let it go and the ref panicked and blew the whistle when the puck wasn't covered. MAF was unreal. But also can't forget the Geuntzel kick save in the 1st period. Huge. |

People know how dedicated hockey fans are to their sport. It's an easy stance to go anti hockey and rile us up

Here's a bit of trivia for years to come...
Who had the highest save percentage in the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs?

I love all 4 major sports but if I ever have any digs it's at how to improve those sports. Like the NBA being so predictable in the early rounds, I think they could fix some of that with X. Then their fans get defensive and think their sports are perfect, and then go off about hockey to make themselves feel better I think. |

I wanna hear the Punjabi call from Bonino's goal last night

Maybe it's just because I don't really intake anything about sports besides hockey stuff. I'm not into any of the other sports enough to have real opinions about them so I guess I just never find myself talking sports with anyone other than hockey fans. Quote:
I wasn't aware about the trash throwing. Clearly there's a reason to be frustrated but yeah that's never a good look. |

Yeah its definitely a personalized caps shirt, didnt even notice that. There was a cup thrown they showed right when the pens were giving taps to fleury when the game ended. Idk if there was more. |
