Well, aren't you smart - for a Flyers fan anyhow! :lol

I may have tried that combo of words, I did try a number of different searches but could not find squat.

Thinking they may have to push game 6 back a day if possible because those guys from each team must be absolutely exhausted! :)

I remember watching that Pens/Flyers game in 2000 that went 5OT. I was watching with my old man and when they went to intermission between the third and fourth OTs, he stood up from his recliner and said, "Fuck these guys, I'll hear who won in the morning." :lol

Definitely not in Washington. Now for sake of clarity, were you at Game 3 of the Stanley Cup in 1998 or Game 3 of the ECF?

Wings suck but...wow the Devils really suck. Even Matty's team has more wins in their last 10.

No, I'm fine with the suspension. Just commenting on how the suspensions, or sometimes lack there of, seem to be awarded fairly arbitrarily with no consistent criteria or enforcement level.

Also I was wondering if anyone could tell me where game three of the 98 eastern conference finals was played.

Clarity has been restored. Must have been awesome attending a SC game, but not sure how awesome it would be to see your team face that Red Wings team. They were ridiculously loaded.

Hey my lovelies. I run an NCAA basketball pool. (Some of you may have seen a similar post on FB already) If you want in, PM me your first and last name (for my spreadsheet) and your personal e-mail address and I'll forward something along to see if you're interested. $5 entry. Just trying to take care of my friends in this thread.

I was actually at game 3 of the 98 finals as well. I was young but I remember there were a lot of Red Wings fans there :lol

Game 4 was even worse if I remember. I'm assuming Caps fans were thinking "This thing is over, let me go make some money."

That thing was over as soon as Tikanen missed the net. It might've been cool to see a Cup awarding in person but yeah it would be a huge sting to watch the other team do it.

Que pasta?

I would be ok if the Flyers got fined for this too. The Penguins called up Sesito to do exactly what he did, let the body fly rules be damned. His 4 game suspension is nothing to them. He wasn't going to be playing anyway.

the league is to blame here, not the penguins

as has been said many times, the Penguins have been very outspoken about how awful the garage league is.

but if the league isn't going to do anything to make it better, then why should the Penguins leave themselves vulnerable to dirty teams like Winnipeg, Philly and CBJ?

nobody cried foul when Justin Schultz got boarded by Byfuglien except for Penguins fans...no penalty, no suspension, no fine. only thing i heard out of Canada was "well, you gotta protect yourself against the boards" and "Malkin deserves retribution"

ok, fine. so my message to Toby Enstrom is "well, next time, protect yourself against the boards and you won't have your face broken" Byfuglien & the League are just as responsible for Enstrom's concussion as Sestito is IMO.

So if the league starts fining teams wouldn't that help curb some of these actions? This would help with phasing out players like Sesisto

I think it would totally depend on the amount of that fine. They would have to set a precedent with it. And even then, I wouldnt be shocked if nothing changed.

The old boys league doesnt seem to being going anywhere.

no it wouldn't help one bit. what do you think the Pens would rather do, pay a fine or leave superstar players more vulnerable to illegal hits? Pens are paying the fine every time.

the only thing that will stop this nonsense is consistent & lengthy suspensions for everyone that is guilty of dirty play.

you were right when you said that 4 games for Sestito didn't matter. but 20 games for Byfuglien would really hurt him and the Jets. 20 games for Malkin would really hurt him and the Pens. It's a simple solution to a problem that doesn't have to exist.

Re: The NHL Thread (lolcaps)

It's kind of interesting, the budding trend I'm starting to see. I'm not sure if there's enough evidence to call it a full on "trend" yet. But whereas we've said in the past that the era of the enforcer is all but dead in the NHL, we're starting to see maybe that's not the case.

Sure, enforcers are not holding a regular 4th-line-winger spot in the lineup like they used to, but in the past week I've seen two instances where enforcer types have been called up from the AHL for specific games (Tanner Glass and Sestito). Maybe that's where team's are moving. No regular spot in the lineup for goons, but bury them in the AHL and then call them up as needed.

If that's the case, team fines would tend to be more effective as, like others have already said here, no one cares if an AHL-er gets an NHL suspension.

Interesting.

Yep, this is something we've long agreed on. For those dangerous boarding type hits? 10 games minimum for a first time offender with exponential increases for repeat offenders.

:thumbsup it's almost too simple for the NHL

the good 'ol boys up in Canada can't be smart about it

Yeah - but that's a slippery slope. What if you call up a guy for legitimate hockey reasons and he does something worthy of a suspension? How do you determine "intent" for calling up a player?
