Here's the deadline deals I'm expecting this year:

@DarrenDreger 5m5 minutes ago
Viktor Stalberg to the Senators for a 3rd in 2017

I'm guessing that's why.

Obviously Sharts makes them better. But before yesterday they didn't have him yet it still seems they were thought of as "the deepest team they've ever had" or whatever. When it was the same group as last year, plus Lars Eller, minus Jason Chimera.

Sens really going for something, here.

Definitely not the Stanley Cup. But they're going for somethin...

Yeah, makes sense. I'd rather have Chimera than Eller, but it's basically the same squad.

Clearly expansion draft related.

Rozsival is likely related to the probability of losing TVR to Vegas - call it insurance so to speak. No idea why they'd resign Tootoo though - especially with all the kids we have coming up who are already better RW's in Hossa, Hartman, Panik and Jurco (maybe on Jurco - still not sold on how solid he will be.)

Dallas D is a disaster and they just traded Jordie Benn to Montreal so if any team wants to pick up Oduya it will likely cost way more than most are willing to pay for a rental.

Their beat guy keeps bringing up that talks to trade Lazar are ongoing. If that move were to occur, they would have shipped out a young roster player and a promising prospect (Dahlen).... for Alex Burrows and Viktor Stalberg.

Going for most Bottom 6 forwards on a roster maybe?

I think Dallas is pretty much resigned to sell mode. They'll offload him if they can, I imagine.

Completely agree but with such a weak defense corps (worse after trading Benn) what are they going to ask for their #1 defender? I do not see too many teams parting with established talent or promising prospects for a guy who will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Tootoo is so they can protect Hartman (and one other forward) while still meeting minimum exposure requirements for the expansion draft.

Also - Dallas is in sell mode. They aren't winning this year, what does keeping Oduya do for them? Literally nothing. He's a pending UFA that won't resign there. Dump him for whatever you can when you can. There's literally 0 reason to keep him.

That's exactly what happens literally every single trade deadline. :lol

Didnt see Fehr go on waivers. Interesting. I dont think that happens unless GMJR plans to bring in a forward.

True but a lot of team with legit shots are not going to part with talent or their futures, hell look at last season when the Hawk's acquired Ladd, they gave up Marko Dano and a 2016 draft pick for a rental - steep but didn't really hurt them in the long run since Dano was probably going to be dealt (or not resigned) anyhow because he was not all that great and prone to injury.

Yep. I mean look what OTT just gave up for fucking Burrows. I mean Dahlen might not turn into much but right now he's 19 and a promising prosepct for a guy who is like 35 and is a role player.

Actually, they are. Like I said, it happens literally every year. Look at Phillip Danault.

A decade ago Braydon Coburn was a prospect dealt at the deadline. San Jose dealth draft picks that turned into David Perron (St. Louis) and Max Pacioretty (Montreal). How about James Neal to Pittsburgh a couple years ago?

It happens literally every single year. That's what makes the deadline fun.

Karl Alzner happy Penguins didn't land Shattenkirk and that, for the first time in his tenure there, Caps landed "the big prize" at deadline

:lol I'm trying to remember who got "the big prize" of the deadline the last couple years.

Vanek to the Canadiens. Yandle to the Rangers. St. Louis to the Rangers. Gaborik to the Kings. Matt Moulson to the Wild. Eric Staal to the Rangers. Ladd to the Hawks. Phaneuf to Ottawa.

How many of those actually won the Cup?

Happy to report that baby Wyatt joined us very early Saturday morning. Mom and baby are doing well so far. :)

Now...back to hockey. Totally forgot trade deadline was coming up. I hope the Oilers don't do anything major. Let's see how this group performs in the playoffs (assuming they don't nose dive) and do some tinkering over the summer.

Now, back to baby.

:lol good point. It's amazing teams keep doing it, with its relatively low level of success.

Now, teams that add a complementary piece here and there can often find it beneficial. But those that try to make big splashes? Rarely works.

Avs getting Rob Blake is one that worked out, but that was like 16 years ago.

CONGRATULATIONS SWORDO!!!! Our next-gen team continues to grow!

Glad to hear everyone is healthy. Eat up as much time as you can with Wyatt - the ol' complaint of them growing up too fast is way too true. All the best to Mrs. Swordo.

Marty to the Rangers got them to the Finals and Gaborik won the Cup. So it happens....sometimes.

I liked a tweet I saw I think yesterday. When a big trade happens now it's "Awesome they are going for it." but then if it doesn't work then people are saying "Why did you do that?" in June. If you see the chance...you take it.

I dont think that thought process is as prevalent in hockey as compared to say, baseball.

I think most fans understand when a team is going all in for a run at the cup.

This story is unbelievable and had I not lived in the area and heard it on local news I would have thought it was BS. The goalie for Quinnipiac University is allergic to ice but still plays, you just cannot make something like this up.

Quote:

Here’s a story you probably didn’t expect to ever read: A college hockey player from Quinnipiac University is literally allergic to ice.

Quinnipiac goaltender Chris Truehl suffers from cold urticaria, which is an ice allergy that makes him incredibly sensitive to cold temperatures. Ideal for a hockey player? No. But that hasn’t stopped Truehl from doing his thing on the ice while dealing with cold hives.
