It really is amazing to watch. When they faced TB I was not sure if they could handle the Bolts speed but they matched the speed and played all around better. Before the final I was not sure how the Penguins would be able to contain such a possession orientated team like San Jose who also has quick strike capabilities but they are getting it done.

I do not think the officials missing calls is a huge deal. Quite honestly they have been letting a lot more go (for both teams) than I imagined, which really helps the Pens because that SJ PP is lethal.

Yeah, Sharks have looked fine, even Jones who someone (not sure who) could argue is not pulling his weight is playing some damn good hockey.

That pricing is insane, hell tickets to Chicago for game 6 (the eventual clincher last year) were not that high. I cannot even imagine how much people would be willing to pay if the Sharks can force a game 6 in SJ.

Like I was saying, Sid's overall play drastically makes up for it. If my kids approach the game the way Crosby does, I'll be a proud guy.

And yes, totally agree that Letang is the most volatile.

Agreed on Letang, he has cooled off somewhat and is not taking dumb penalties. As for Crosby, damn has he kicked it into another gear, he is playing some of the best hockey of his life at the best possible time. As a Hawks fan I have seen guys like Toews, Kane and Keith take their play up a notch in big games - Crosby is doing the exact same thing.

It isn't cheating, just smart hockey. Anyone who has ever taken a faceoff knows that after a couple of them you get a sense of how long it takes for the ref to drop the puck and Crosby is nailing it completely. Every player does that, no idea why Couture is harping on that.

Couldn't disagree more. If it's a penalty, it's a penalty and should be called consistently.

And if the calls would've been made correctly, the Pens PP would've been out there way more than the Sharks PP.

But anyway, since most ppl want the Crosby masturbation to stop, we should all post our favorite Fat Phil Kessel pics and gifs. I do this with my friends in a group chat and usually devolves into some awesome lols. I'll start with my favorite.

Agree with you on having it be consistent but they also need to be consistent if they are not going to make certain calls. Sort of like a strike zone to me, I don't care if you are going to call a high fastball outside the zone a strike just so long as pitchers on both teams get that same call.

Julie Gaffney.

Great goalie or greatest goalie?

No doubt she was light years ahead of Goldberg. Big Goldy had a lot of charisma back there, but from a technical standpoint, it clearly should've been The Cat's crease the whole. Her athleticism, timing and her never give-up-on-the-puck attitude was simply a class above that which Goldberg could offer. And that glove. Oh, that glove. Gunner Stahl probably still has nightmares.

Absolutely. The decision to start Goldberg over Gaffney alone could have been grounds for dismissal, IMO.

Bombay's greatest talent was in unifying players. And even then, he relied a lot on Conway to do the grunt work.

When it came to actual on-ice strategy and game-time decisions, he was lacking.

Yeah, that is a pretty solid jersey, though I have never been a big fan of the 'collar tie' - love the captain markings on the sleeves, nice homage to the 101st airborne - who all wear their ranger tabs and their airborne qualification on the sleeves as well.

Everyone does realize D2 was far superior to the original, right?

You don't say or do many wrong things, Barbs. But you did here. This will take me a long time to get over. I just need time.

:lol :lol

They are about even for me. I've never seen D3, and I don't plan on remedying that anytime soon.

D2 certainly has its moments: "Greenland is full of ice. But Iceland is very nice." The knucklepuck. The game of three-bar between Bombay and Wolf the Island coach.

Think about that for a second. Can you imagine Mike Sullivan and Peter DeBoer suddenly engaging in a game of one-on-one in the middle of practice, with DeBoer ending it by slashing Sullivan in the knee?

Look, I'm not saying the first one isn't awesome (it is) but the second one is much better for me. Junior Goodwill Games, that team with tie dye jerseys, Russ Tyler, the stuff Dramageek mentioned, etc etc etc.

It's just better

I can't help that I'm the only enlightened one about this

We can at least all agree D3 is unwatchably bad, yes?

Miracle is the most accurate hockey movie I've seen in terms of play. They used actually hockey players who they taught to act, instead of using player doubles, and that really adds to the film. Pretty damn inspiring too. I get teary in AT LEAST four parts of that movie every time I watch it.

Goon is more light-hearted, but totally nails the hockey team and locker room culture. It is this generation's Slap Shot.

Slap Shot needs to be seen just because of its legendary status.

Pretty atrocious, and not just on a hockey movie level. Like, on a film level.

Plus, Charlie is such a bitch in that one. Which I also attribute in part to Bombay's coddling of him over the years.

Barbs, barbs, barbs. Or Bob if I may. Yikes.

D1 is way superior. And I like D2.

Haven't seen Goon. Still hate Slap Shot. With that, I'll go:

1. Miracle
2. D1
3. Mystery, Alaska
4. D2

Love the hockey movie talk.

To cover the backread:

I really really like Goon.

D2 > Original

Mystery, Alaska is fantastic.

Miracle is still the best hockey movie of all time.

And again, I'm totally fine being the only one who holds this enlightened and correct opinion. The first one is awesome. I love it. But I own a combo set on DVD, and D2 gets a ton more action

Take a second to watch Goon on Netflix this weekend. You will not regret it. When Mini Lads is asleep preferably.

EDIT: And perhaps Mrs. Lads too, depending on how she is with F-words and face-punching violence (their sound effects guy deserves an award for that film).

My favorite part of Miracle is how well they shot the actual hockey. They synced it up with the play-by-play so damn well.

Exactly. Like I was saying, the actual hockey in that movie is completely unmatched by any other hockey film I've seen. If you watch the "making of" stuff on that movie, it's really cool to see how closely they studied footage from the actual games, then how meticulously they rehearsed to make the onscreen action look as close to the real thing as they could.

And I think the non-actors thing helped. Being able to show the actual players' faces playing just makes it more impactful.
