If there was any franchise who had a MT Rushmore set is stone for the foreseeable future, it is the Islanders with Bossy, Potvin, Trottier and Smith.

IF JT wins a cup, I could replace Smith. If we wind up making a cup final, win many playoff series and he gets to 1000 points or higher, I guess an argument could convince me otherwise. Until then, the 4 remains the same.

I fully admit to being extraordinarily spoiled as a Pens fan. After Jagr was traded and we entered the greatness that was the Rico Fata era, I never thought I'd see the likes of Lemieux and Jagr again. Then Crosby and Malkin came along and all was right with the world.

People just need to accept the truth of this.

Fun story: One time during the offseason he was rehabbing a shoulder injury so my dad and I invited him to come out and play a few games in our beer league just to get moving again. He came, and was like, "Matt, we're gonna get you a few goals tonight. Anytime I've got the puck, just go to the net with your stick on the ice and I'll take care of the rest." I scored like 6 goals that night, but actually didn't. He would just BANK PUCKS IN OFF MY STICK. It didn't matter where he or I was on the ice - he would just make it happen.

It's amazing the skill level of even someone who was "just" a career minor leaguer.

Look who they have at #9. Pretty cool to see Leddy on this list, whether I agree with it or not. It's mostly stat driven. It's going to wind up that Garth fleeced Chicago for Leddy.

I mean, not to discredit your list or anything, but Mark Giordano and Duncan Keith behind Jake Muzzin? This list is garbage.

lockman21 08-17-2015 07:20 PM

Re: The NHL Thread

Also, to say Chicago got "fleeced" with trade is a little...wrong.

It allowed them to keep Brad Richards, a player the Hawks don't win the Cup without. Leddy was never going to be in the role in Chicago that he deserved or would excel in.

Why can't it be a win/win? Because I think it was. PLUS, we still don't know what Ville Pokka can be.

Hence, in my original post, saying "whether I agree with it or not". Obviously, no one is taking Muzzin over those 2, though Muzzin is a nice player. Those advanced stats don't tell everything.

And yes, both teams can "win" the trade. I have to admit I was very impressed with Leddy. He got better as the season went on and he was a much better player than I thought we were getting. And at age, I am curious to see how much better he can get.

He should be very, very good. I always loved the kid, and was a huge defender of his when some people in this thread...without mentioning any names...talked about what a huge liability he was defensively.

I think we'll see him really hit his stride here this year, and even more so the next. At least that's what I hope. Top 10 in the league? Eh, maybe a stretch, but who knows? Maybe he will be. All-star capable? Absolutely.

I think we can see him be this generation's Brian Campbell.

I think he could and should be better defensively than soupy, though maybe a notch below offensively. Pretty good comp, though. I'd take perennial all star. I'm not thinking Norris finalist or anything.

His contract , panned when first signed, will be a bargain in the coming years.

I was one of those that talked about what a huge liability he was defensively because, well, at the time he was.

BUT, I've also said on numerous occasions that it takes quite a while for a defenseman to adjust to the NHL game. Look no further than Victor Hedman. I agree with you both that Leddy had a much better year this year (I think the added responsibility may have actually helped, along with the experience) and there's no reason to think he won't continue to progress. Very happy for him and I agree that the trade was a win-win for NYI and CHI.

I'll say it again, with the rumors out there, no ads on the jerseys. I'll never buy one. I understand there is money there but that would be so ugly. Can't imagine the Blackhawks logo or Wings logo with a comcast or Motorola logo next to it.

Also, just bought my first tickets for the season. November 25th vs the Bruins cause Thanksgiving Eve has sorta become a tradition for me and my dad. I think this will be our 5th game on that night. Also got tickets for my birthday vs the Jets. First time in a while they've been at home on my bday so that's pretty awesome.

I don't mind the stripes. They're okay and kinda cool on some of the concept jerseys. But actual ads can go fly a kite.

Agreed, to hell with that idea. If it does indeed happen I will simply to to eBay or amazon and get an old school jersey and customize it as I wish.

I mean, the main issue here is that most of the leagues where there are ads there on jerseys don't have commercials like American sports do. It's used to supplement that loss of potential ad revenue. Having both is just ridiculous.

If they do put ads on, the jerseys fans can buy should not have them on, or at least have an option to buy without ads. I think it's dumb soccer jerseys are sold with ads on them. So Brooks Laich is now officially engaged to his celebrity girlfriend. Although I really have no idea who this woman is.

After a quick skim of her Wiki page, seems she's mostly famous for winning Dancing with the Stars twice, previously dating Ryan Seacrest, and wearing blackface to a Halloween party. Neat. It's funny, I read an article called something like "Who IS Julianne Hough's hockey star fiancé?" And I was like, who the fuck is Julianne Hough.

Definitely wearing on me that it's the off-season when I get excited (and thinking about going) about the following....

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that the Friday, September 25 Flyers vs. New York Islanders pre-season game at the Wells Fargo Center will now begin at 6 p.m. The change in time is to accommodate the City of Philadelphia’s preparations for the Pope’s visit and to make it easier for fans to navigate travel restrictions.

In addition, all fans in attendance at the September 25 game will enjoy free hot dogs, pretzels, and soft drinks, as well as 50% off all Flyers merchandise at the Fan Zone.

It seemed excessive, too, but maybe they have a history or there were issues in another thread and he'd been warned. I have no idea. There is likely more to the story.

Yeah....he's a Flyers fan. Although they should have banned him for 6 months starting about January, that way he wouldn't have to be around for when they miss the playoffs.

Well how can we make fun of him if he isn't here?

I spoke with him. He's trying to get it worked out. His post wasn't in great taste. He never read the OP before posting and was in the process of editing before the banhammer came down. 6 months does seem excessive. But, not my call. I'm happy to be here!

Will miss Matt 'round here. Agree that seems excessive. Who's gonna make fun of my religion and favorite hockey team?? :snot I challenge you all to step up.

And so much will change in 6 months... I could have like 2-3 new wives and who knows how many new kids!

I feel bad about Crash's ban as it was in my thread. I was just so shocked when I saw that story, and I figured someone would start a thread anyway, so I posted it. I also knew that it would trigger the gun control debate, which I didn't want to get into. While Matt's post wasn't in the best of taste, a 6 month ban is a bit harsh, for sure. Jake does get sensitive about such things, but hey, it's not my call.

And yes, he will be back in just enough time for the Flyers to miss the playoffs, with the Pens squeaking in by a point. :lol

You seem to be taking up that challenge yourself.

The Avs may even have ten wins by then!

Also, he will be back in time to see the Caps blow another playoff series, so he has that going for him.

I mean people get banned...it happens.

I have been banned several times.

I want hockey here. 35 days until Disney World, which means 42 until the Wings start. It's really bad cause there is nothing on right now. Most summer shows are over and the fall ones haven't started yet. Anyone watch Mr. Robot? Heard it was good and might bust it out through hulu or something.

WhT? is that supposed to mean.

Disney should be nice and uncrowded (relatively) at that time for you.

Just being a smartass for the heck of it.

Yeah we're looking forward to it. I wish we could go sometime in January to be real quiet but we both work at a university so doesn't work out well.

I've been binging through Orange is the New Black this month. Slowly binging so I can stretch it as long as possible, but I'm through 2 seasons already so I doubt one more will take me all the way to hockey season.

Wish the Walking Dead spinoff wasn't shaping up to be terrible.

I would be excited about football but the Redskins are just so unbelievably pathetic I lose interest pretty fast, and I'm not enough of a fan of the sport to invest time in regular season games I don't have a rooting interest in.

Tim, Mr Robot was indeed very good. Would recommend, easily the best show that came out this summer. Excited for the finale next week.

If you like weirdness and comedy, Wet Hot American Summer is worth checking out. Watch the 2001 movie before the 8 episode 2015 series.

Thank you for the mention. I am surprised it didn't get more mention in here as he is the 2nd greatest coach in the history of the league. He won 4 cups as a player and 4 as coach and is 2nd all time in games coached, wins, playoff wins.

He was truly a legend.

If you have 7 minutes, this is a great video tribute I watched just now when I got home from work

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/r...ow_ids=1617477

It was also nice to see so many teams give me a mention.

I just want to note all the NHL teams who took a moment today to recognize the passing of Al Arbour - the Florida Panthers, with Bill Torrey at the helm; of course, the Blues, for whom Radar was the Original Captain; along with the LA Kings; the Red Wings; Flyers; Predators; the Wild; the Leafs. All took a moment to pay their respects to the Coach, with at least a tweet. I thought that was cool.

The man was a legend. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Also did not know Al was a Red Wing to start his career.

Wanna see what Matty has to say about this order.

https://www.easports.com/nhl/news/20...-10-defensemen

My issues are Giordano being left off the list and Subban rated too high (but that's to be expected).

My list would be more like:

1. Keith
2. Doughty
3. Suter
4. Weber
5. McDonagh
6. Hedman
7. Karlsson
8. Josi
9. Pietrangelo
10. Giordano
