Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
I can't believe people on the 300level would prefer Konopka to Madden. LOL
Not sure we bring Campoli back but if we do it will be for less than $1.9m, I would hope. Madden would probably get a little more than $0.6mil even if he's coming back for cheap. I definitely see more changes to the team than what you have there, but that team actually looks pretty decent to me. Not sure if you intended for those lines to be a projection, but Morin would be useless on the 4th line. |

He worked his ass off the year before they won the cup and he took a big step forward, then he partied all summer and stayed the same. If i'm any other team in the league, I'm worried about what Kaner will do next season. When he focuses and works his ass off, he's unstoppable. |

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Now here's a question... Mark Recchi: Hall of Fame?
I know what I think, but what say ye? Here's some stats: 1533 points(577 G / 956 A) in 1652 games 147 points in 189 playoff games 3 Stanley Cups 7 All-Star game appearances (1 MVP) Those are just the stats, let's not forget his multiple leadership roles and the example he's been to younger players, not to mention his longevity. |
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Recchi is a class act too.
|
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
So news out there that if Jagr doesn't stay in Europe he's contact a number of NHL teams. Montreal, Pittsburgh, NYR and Detroit were the teams. Not so sure about that. If he's cheap then he might be worth the risk but not feeling this one.

Recchi is a tough call for me, IMO. Guy has a lot of points, but he's under a PPG in both regular season play and the playoffs. I think if you're going to make the Hall of Fame, you need at least a PPG.

cap to be between 63.5 and 64 million.
my Hawks dream team with the new cap: CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Patrick Kane ($6.300m) / Jonathan Toews ($6.300m) / Jeremy Morin ($0.886m) Patrick Sharp ($3.900m) / Brooks Laich ($4.500m) / Marian Hossa ($5.275m) Michael Frolik ($1.500m) / Dave Bolland ($3.375m) / Bryan Bickell ($0.541m) Marcus Kruger ($0.900m) / John Madden ($0.750m) / Ben Smith ($0.812m) Viktor Stalberg ($1.000m) DEFENSEMEN Duncan Keith ($5.538m) / Brent Seabrook ($5.800m) Brian Campbell ($7.142m) / Brent Sopel ($1.500m) Nick Leddy ($1.116m) / Chris Campoli ($1.700m) John Scott ($0.512m) GOALTENDERS Corey Crawford ($2.666m) / Alexander Salak ($0.612m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,630,504; BONUSES: $965,000 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $1,369,496 |

BUT, even if we did make that switch, you didn't really add much depth besides Brooks, who I think would be a mistake at a decent contract length (3-5 years) at 4.5. I like the guys game, don't get me wrong, but you're essentially dumping a contract to make cap room (that we don't really need if the cap is at 64 million) just to take that cleared cap space back with another overpaid player, and in the process weaken our blue line (which is what the Hawks want to win us games). So what would getting rid of Hjalmarrson really do? PLUS you cut Troy Brouwer loose, who I think is the most underrated player on our roster. Guy was fifth in the league in hits while only taking 38 PIM. Plus he had 17 goals which should have been more if it weren't for him playing injured the last part of the season and going through that scoring drought. He's a guy that doesn't take penalties, actually hits people, fights if he needs to, can score goals, and can play on any line. Brouw needs to be back. Especially if we can keep him for less than $2 million, which we probably would be able to. Then adding John Madden sounds nice, but I like the job Ryan Johnson did just fine. If I'm Stan Bowman, I'm not trying to rebuild the Stanley Cup team. This team needs to have it's own dynamics and personality. If you need that kind of guy, Ryan Johnson works just fine at a 500k cap hit. We brought in Madden for leadership from a guy that's won the Cup before, now that they all have there's no need for him on the roster. I love Madden, but no need to sign him. So really, with that roster, you're looking at a team that's lost pieces from last year that should still be there (Hjalmarsson and Brouwer) and didn't really add much that we can't go get anyway. Here's just an idea. I'm a fan of either Brooks or Steve, but only IF we can get them under $4 million. No need to weaken our defense to get one of them. Quote:

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
my whole point about Hammer is that I think you could sell him pretty high. if his role is going to be "Brian Campbell's Safety Net" then we could get a guy for cheaper than $3.5 to do that job. It doesn't have to be Sopel, I just put him because I think he would take a discount to comeback since his family still lives here. I would kill for Hammer to step it up this year, and if he does I will have no problem swallowing it and saying I was wrong and being totally pumped that he is playing better, I just don't think that he will.
Troy Brouwer became an absolute GHOST at the end of the season, and has never ever been able to find his role on this team. He goes to the 3rd or the 4th line, and it's about how we're wasting potential and a big body. You put him with Kane and Toews and he doesn't score the goals that he should be scoring, anybody can score as the other guy with Kane and Toews. This year was his year to step up, especially with all of the depth we lost and the leadership he could have stepped into, and he didn't. I also don't think he is coming cheaper than $2 million. There are teams out there that would love a guy like him and he'll come higher than $2 mil I think. I threw John Madden in because there are rumors that he's going to come back with a "cap-friendly" deal. I love Ryan Johnson, and honestly out of those two it's apples and oranges. I think Ryan Johnson can win draws better than Madden but I think Madden is better on the kill. Either way you can't go wrong for your 4th line guy. I think we can both agree that Bolland is better in the 3rd line role, and if that's the role he takes full time next season, he is probably the best checking line center in the league. I think Laich is the best 2nd line center available. He is two-way, puts up could numbers, can drop them when he needs to, and is a good leader. |

Wings have called an 11am conference call with Holland and Lidstrom. He's back. They would not announce his retirement by phone call. At least I don't think so. It would be kinda suck if that was how it went down. Rafalski who was here for 4 years gets a PC but you are on the phone Nick.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
It's for sure he's back. 1 year deal. $$ not out yet. He made $6mil last year so my guess is around that. Now if he took $5mil... It could be a fun summer.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Here's something for everyone from capgeek.com: With all signs pointing toward a $64m cap, here's the upper limit's evolution: $39.0m, $44.0m, $50.3m, $56.7m, $56.8m, $59.4m and $64m. and the floor's evolution: $23.0m, $28.0m, $34.3m, $40.7m, $40.8m, $43.4m, $48.0m.
People can say how great it is for the league but my guess is teams with mid-ranger to lower payrolls aren't happy with it. Elevating salaries and runaway payrolls were supposed to be eliminated. yeah right. Good for my team and other spenders but not good for Nashville, FLA, Phoenix and so on. I also find it hilarious that in 01-02 people were flipping out with the Wings payroll of $65 mil. The Rangers and Avs were probably close to it that year too. But how many teams will be at ora round $64mil this year? Probably a lot more than 3 teams. |
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Lidstrom's salary will be the same as this past season at $6.2mil. Still not bad for one of the best defensemen ever.
