The Flames are so bad even the Saddledome has had enough.

So Bernier to the Leafs. Hey Reimer thanks for helping us come back from down 3-1 and almost beat the Bruins but you're our backup now.

That pretty much sums it up. What a strange move by the Leafs.

And I saw a tweet the other day Reimer has more career starts and better stats. I know Bernier has been a backup to one of the best in the league but still a big gamble since he hasn't proven anything yet. Whatever. It's a good pickup just weird. Whether or not they think Bernier is the #1 now or it'll play out in camp I'll wonder how Reimer will handle it.

While the circumstances that caused this are no laughing matter, this is fucking gold!

Sounds like dressing rooms, video board control room, tons of priceless memorabilia and others are completely lost. The good news is that the Flames were/are already close to announcing a new deal for a new barn, so hopefully they can fast-track that a bit.

Saw a hilarious tweet to the effect of "If the Saddledome can't be used, I know of an arena in Glendale that will be free" :lol

We all know that I was very impressed with Bernier this season and I'm excited for him to get some more opportunities. As for Reimer, I didn't watch many Leafs games, aside from the post season. Even in the times that he played good, he looked bad - didn't seem to know where the puck was half the time, gave up too many rebounds and wasn't always set up properly. It seemed like a lot of his saves were mere luck. That said, I was impressed with watching him turn his game around that series.

Backstrom re-signs in Minny for $3.42mil a year. That's a good deal...if he's healthy.

I feel bar for Reimer. He played well and was a major reason the leafs made it into the post season. I hope he uses the Bernier trade as a means of getting better over the off-season and blowing Bernier out of the water come training camp and throughout the season. Reimer is such a good guy. He's polite, well-spoken, humble, quick to laugh.

I feel bad for them both. They both deserve a shot at being the clear #1 somewhere. That hell hole (no offense Troy) of an organization is going to eat alive two good guys and great goaltenders.

I don't think it's a hell hole of an organization and I keep holding out hope that with the change from MLSE to Rogers/Bell they will be more likely to use the extensive resources at their disposal. It has the chance to be the greatest sports franchise in hockey, but they just seem to keep fucking it up every time.

Now there are some rumblings that Phaneuf is in play.

If they move Phaneuf for a center or anything else other than another D-man we have a problem. Getting rid of him (the rumour I heard from RDS was to the Avalanche for one of their centers) would create a HUGE hole on the D. Phaneuf definitely has his faults but generally he gives 23-25 quality minutes every night. Getting rid of him would create a very poor back end. In my mind, he is a top 2 d-man on essentially every team.

This is what I heard as well, with the Avs side listing Stastny (obviously) as their piece in play. Not incredibly sure how I feel about this... On one hand, it addresses needs for both teams. On the other hand, both players have been quite inconsistent the past couple seasons.

However, I'm hearing more and more rumblings about the Avs going for McKinnon instead of the Jones in the draft. As much as this pisses me off, it lends more credence to the Stastny/Phaneuf rumors. Needless to say, I'm pretty anxious for draft day to roll around.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

I would kind of freak out if that was the deal. I don't see that as being close value in the slightest ( Cap hits are similar but that is it). Phaneuf in my mind contributes more to the team. If it's a straight up deal there is a huge problem here.

Stastny is a 3rd liner on that team. He's a good Centre with a high skill level but he doesn't get a straight up deal for Phaneuf. The guy is a quality top 2 d-man and our Captain. I couldn't imagine that being the deal. It would have to be a much bigger package than Phaneuf for Stastny but I can't even think about what that would include.

I was thinking, he's been quiet since everyone was talking about his big contract he'll get...then that happens. He's gone for sure unless he takes a lot less than some stupid team will offer him.

Bobrovsky has an offer on the table from a KHL team per CBS sports.

If the Jackets don't sign him they should just abolish the franchise.

Rumors are he might not now but with being over the cap and the term of that deal I'm not sure how you don't.

@EricOnSportsLaw
Playing 58% of games, NHL generated 72% of 2011-12 season revenue; Danny Heatley knows something about playing 58% of games.

This is why we'll continue to get locked out at the end of every CBA boys and girl. The NHL was not hurt at all by this lockout.
