Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

The problem is that everyone is going to pick Karlsson/Malkin/Crosby so that's not really gonna get you anywhere if those guys light it up. So it's either go a different route and hope those guys don't perform or be fucked when your picks get bounced out of the playoffs, or predictably, don't do as well as those guys.

I'm gonna go with players I hope to carry round to round as long as possible.

Maybe i don't understand the rules of this game, but don't we get to reselect before each round? So picking players and guessing which are going to go far doesn't matter. It really just matters how many games they play in each round.

Anyways, here's my picks.

G Thomas (He'll do well against OTT if that's who they play)
G Brodeur (Clutch vet, will wipe the floor with FLA)

D Letang
D Pietrangelo
D Carle
D Gonchar

F Malkin
F Datsyuk
F Zetterberg
F Thornton
F H. Sedin
F Gaborik

You're correct but the money value changes. Its based on how a player has played in the playoffs. I don't know how it's determined, but if you keep a player, you get him at his original value rather than at his inflated price after a round or two. There's a good article on the fantasy homepage about it.

Yeah this is right. So if you say, everyone's picking Malkin, I'll go with someone else to try to be different, and Malkin lights it up, he's going to cost you a lot more to put him on your team after rd1, whereas everyone else gets to keep him.

Then again, if you go with a bunch of guys on 3-4 teams you think are going to go deep that might put you at an advantage...but if those teams flop then you are screwed. A nice bit of strategy in this little game.

Pretty sure Crawford has been saving shutouts for the playoffs

Yep. At face value it's simple but there's definitely strategy involved.

Hmm, this sounds like it requires a lot more thought than i expected. I fully expect to do horribly now, lol.

Yeah...so you know how everything went perfectly for the Sharks the other night. Tonight, not so much. Right as they're noting that Sharks D-man Douglas Murray is apparently hurt again, Selanne scores his 50th career goal against the Sharks to break a tie.

Can't decide if I'm in on the game. Never been a fantasy sports person, but maybe just a playoff run would be ok...

Wings lost that one themselves. Each goal could have been prevented. They'll be done real quick if they don't fix that shit.

Winning in Winnipeg should go a LONG way towards hopefully winning the Atlantic/East.

And Gautier is gone. Now hire close talker away from NBC and it'll make my year.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Alright fellas, the roster is filled out and ready to go. I went against the grain and took some risks on some of my choices, but who knows how it could go down.

Fleury - banking on long run and his value going up
Schneider - Luongo will suck again

Karlsson
Weber
Chara - duh for all 3 of these
Shattenkirk - one of the most underrated young d-men in the league.

Malkin
Kovalchuk - looks like he's finally found his groove
Sharp - always kicks it up in the playoffs
Hartnell - After his monster regular season, I see him being a big playoff performer this year. We'll see
James Neal
Marchand - banking on a repeat of last year's performance

The great thing about this first round is you can re-tool after, right? So I'm cool with taking some chances.

I haven't seen anyone taking Franzen. He always seems to have a good playoff so I'll be taking him.

I'll be taking Krejci aka the guy who led the playoffs in scoring last year.

Just be fucking careful plz. Cleared Montador for contact, quickly played a game and seems to have gotten hurt already....might be done for the year at this point, who knows.

I'm going to be so fucking scared that first game back for Toews.

fonzz41 03-29-2012 12:41 PM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

^ Good luck with that. Like Crosby, I don't think "careful" exists in Toews' vocabulary once he hits the ice. Bless his heart.

The best description for the style of play of Crosby and Toews that I've ever heard actually came from Matthew Barnaby of all people in a tweet (multiple misspellings of course), who essentially said, "[Crosby and Toews] have a fourth liners attitude with a top liners talent."

Love that. Couldn't think of a better compliment to a player. It's something I keep in mind as I play now, and that I try to instill in the kids I coach.

Toews is not Montador. They won't have him skate in games unless he's ready. He is the face of the organization.

I'M SO EXCITED.

You'd think Derek Roy was traded to the Hawks or something.

So frustated with my Sharks... everytime it seems that they're getting it together, they lose to some crappy team. 3-1 to Ducks last night :BANG
