that Rangers Devils brawl was retarded. Staged fighting is why the NHL can never be on the same stage as the other three sports, and it ruins the game. Fucking stupid.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Well won't need to worry about staying up late for playoff games. You can't show up in the 2nd period. Also sucks that they made a comeback and the winning goal shouldn't have been. Aucoin tripped Quincey and that's how he was open. Didn't do it on purpsoe but a penalty never the less. If this was Feb I'd be ok but with 9-10 games left it's gonna be hard to get it going soon enough to make a run. :-/

Brian Burke has to be fired soon, right? If the Panthers make the playoffs this year the Leafs will be the only team in the NHL that hasn't made they playoffs since the lock out.

Yeah, it was over the top. But staged? I dk about that. These two teams have been at eachothers' necks all season on the ice. Rangers, who have been the more physical team all year, got pushed around the last few games against the devils. It was just a torts wake up call. From everything I heard he was furious at deboer for sending his bruisers out and wanted someone to take charge of the game early.

dduncan6er 03-20-2012 08:34 AM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

It was definitely staged. Fights off the face off like that are always staged. Sure its both teams trying to send a message but its 100% staged when you see guys drop em like that when the puck drops. With that being said I have no problem with it because it was very entertaining.

Disagree here. If it was one fight, I'd tend to agree, but when it's three, in Mid-March no less? That's awesome. Entertaining. Shows you how much these guys care right now.

This. We aren't talking about a meaningless fight with 3 minutes left in an 8-1 game. Stuff like that has little to no meaning. This was a power move by the Devils and Torts rebutted by sending out his tough guys. They fed off the emotions of their coaches there and set the tone for the game. Stuff like this separates hockey from the "Three big sports" for a good reason. To be honest though, i think the NBA and NHL are on a pretty even in regards to popularity.

The league and the media want to make him like a Jordan but the NHL is not the NBA. One player does not carry a team. As proven by the Pens Cup win. Crosby had 1 goal in 7 games in the Finals.

When he is retired and sitting in the press box they'll zoom in on him for his reaction for some 19 year old kids first goal for the opposing team.

I agree with everything you said. I am a Penguins fan, and yes, the NHL is trying to make him the face of the franchise. However, hockey is one of the ultimate team sports as proven by the most recent 10 game winning streak of the Pens. I think 8 games were done without Crosby. Hell, this season was practically without him, and we'd honestly be in first place had the Rangers not been so BAMF this year.

Nope, I didn't pay. there's various streaming websites out there that will do it for free, though illegal. :lol

Personally, I don't care outside of the fact that my team is now healthy. Letang is back and so is Crosby. I do think the Sid Cam was over-the-top, but as they are trying to make him the face of teh NHL, they're going to do things like that.

Yup, I miss Talbot. I followed him in the AHL (my parents had season tickets for the WBS Penguins). He was one of my favorites for the WBS/Pitt Pens. It kills me to see that he's a Flyer, but I'm so happy for him. I'm glad he got paid and I'm really glad he went to an organization that really, really wanted him. If there's one person that scores a goal on the Pens, I really hope it's him every time.

I agree with everything except the end. The NHL is nowhere near as popular as the NBA. Chinese people have probably need watched a hockey game but they love the NBA. N/r.

yeah. Maybe in terms of people in the arena but in terms of viewership I don't think so. Let's be honest you need more knowledge of hockey than you do of basketball to watch it.

Well, the NBA is on TNT, ESPN, and ABC on a weekly basis. The NHL has NBCSports/NBC and no other nationally televised games.

They've been doing it for six years now and no one gives a shit--pardon my French.

Someone put it best--the media and the NHL has saturated Crosby to no end by saying how great he is--actually overhyping him, that when he does something fantastic, everyone just simply expects it out of him. There is no wow factor from him.

On the other hand, Ovechkin was different. He was seemingly more explosive, more marketable, despite the fact that he'll never win anything in his NHL career nor be the best player in the NHL.

I like Crosby, don't get me wrong. But personally, a lot of the heat he receives comes from the fact that the NHL has done such a fantastic job in shoving him down our throats when no one wants that. I understand they needed their own "Michael Jordan" after the lockout, but now that they have their own network, plus NBC Sports--they have the whole league to shine.

what do you mean?

Speaking of jerseys, just picked myself an old Lemieux sweater on borntrade. Pretty sweet. My only complaint is that it seems extra long for the size I got (50). I'm not a tall guy though. Definitely a little on the big side compared to others I have.

I've never bought from there, but without clicking the link, I'm assuming by the fact that you ordered a # size (50), that's a fake/Chinese online jersey store?

It's just hard deciding what to pursue, what's real, etc. Like, for example, I just bought a 2008-2009 Malkin Third jersey. I believe it to be legit, it has all the right tags from Mellon Arena. But, since I'm a perfectionist, I'm not happy with the customization. I assume it was done by the Penguins team store or whoever handles it, but the letters look a bit too small compared to the on-ice versions from that season. I'd like to just figure out who does the lettering for the actual game worn jerseys and see if they can fix it for me.

Another note on why it's frustrating, at least for me, is the differences between the jerseys the past few years. The Edge 1.0 v The Edge 2.0 v this year's Edge 2.0 with the wordmark on the back. This years retail version is a lesser quality than the previous seasons' 2.0s, and those are a completely different feel than the 1.0s from 2008.

It's just frustrating deciding what I want, where to find it, etc.

Oh yeah, definitely, and I wouldn't have it any other way. At least for the penguins (I'm assuming its somewhat of a league standard), the quality of the "official" jerseys they sell at the arena or Dick's or whatever sports store, is completely sub-par and doesn't come close to the quality that you get with the Chinese knock-offs.

For example, all of the letters and decals on the "official" jerseys are glued on and have printed on stitching while the knock-offs are legitimately embroidered, stitched, and uses good fabrics. From my experience, Born Trade produces some very high quality stuff, for a fifth of the price. I've also failed to notice any differences when comparing them to the ones the players are wearing.

I see what you mean, that's why I always just settle with the cheaper knock-offs cause I refuse to play the $150 for a jersey that might not even be what I'm looking for anyways.

If you're interested in Penguins stuff, Steel-Town Memorabilia is great and sells top-notch merch. Most of the jerseys he sells are autographed to boot. Picked up a signed Orpik away jersey from him for $100, COA and all. Here's the link to his eBay page. He does regular public signing sessions with a lot of the Pittsburgh athletes throughout the year.

Yeah, I saw taht. I was eyeing up the Talbot third jersey, but, even though it's authentic, the lettering and numbers aren't correct. The numbers are too small adn the letters are too chubby.

There's a shop in Illinois that does great work, so I'm trying to see how my Orpik jersey turns out from there. I just don't know if I'm getting this year's 2.0 or last year's 2.0. It's such a headache. :( I also know of the shop that does the lettering for the actual game worn blackhawks jersey, so i'm just trying to find the Pens one. Such. A. Headache.
