I don't know. In the old rules if you played 60 minutes +5 and got a point for a tie, you should get a point if you lose in the shootout as well. I personally despise the shootout, but I accept that it's going nowhere.

3 point games are the worst. Carolina has 13 points from games they lost and only have 61 points.

They need to go to a 3-2-1 IMO.

3 for ROW
2 for SOW
1 for OTL/SOL

I wasn't for this when someone first proposed a few years back but I am now. It would show who the good teams really were. The mediocre teams would probably still be bunched together and that's fine.

However the NHL won't do this because the current system gives the appearance the teams are closer than they actually are. I'd love to go through each team and figure out under this point system what the standings would be.

I'm with this. I also like in 99-00 when they made it 1 point for an OT loss. Teams were tentative before that because they didn't want to lose the point. That mixed with 4on4 helped the regular season OT I think.

So the Jackets really are that bad huh? No Lidstrom, no Datsyuk, no Quincey..didn't matter. Although the Wings tried to lose it giving up a shorthanded goal early in the 3rd to go down 2-1. But then 4 goals in about 10 minutes or so changed that. Huge 2 points.

Same old crap in PHX. This team went without a regulation loss in February and that's the crowd? Yeah lets keep them there.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Have to say I agree with all the people on the Interwebz who think the Sharks/Flyers game last night had horrible officiating. I like the "let 'em play" attitude, but the refs lost control by letting too much go, on both sides. Only good parts were they called it the same both ways and didn't suddenly change how they were doing it at some random point during the game.

And yeah Tim, PHX doesn't deserve a hockey team. There may be some passionate fans and it would suck for them to have to lose their team, but c'mon.

Phoenix just generally sucks as a sports town. The MLB All-Star game last year had empty seats.

Don't get too excited. It was only the Leafs.

Leafs fans are probably thanking you for getting them one step closer to being Ron Wilson-less.

Better than they should be. I still think the Sharks will get in. As I was saying to Dave last night, that big road trip, combined with some injuries, has caused us to slide. But we're in a stretch where 10 of 15 are at home now, and we should get Crankshaft, AKA Dougie Murray, and Martin Havlat back soon. Plus no way Phoenix can keep up their current pace. Right? Right?????

Can't see the Sharks putting together a solid enough run to get the Cup this year, but hey, stranger things have happened, and the great Feb/March records they've had in recent years didn't end up meaning shit, so maybe this year will be the opposite.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Havlat should be huge...similar to Toews if he is not completely fucked and they are hiding it

Wilson was given a contract extension last December.

Going to the Flyers/Isle game tonight. Bryz in net and Briere will play. Speaking of Briere, Shanahan is a cunt for not suspending, or even fining Vlasic for the hit.

Doesn't mean his job is safe right now.

:rolleyes

Rinaldo's hit on Galiardi was worse. And did you not notice how Briere stopped short, 3 feet from the boards? Briere needs to not put himself in that position. Hockey players in general need to take responsibility and not put themselves in such a vulnerable position near the boards.

CSN Ca showed the Flyers game so I caught the third period. Was amused by their "Best of the Night" graphic that listed Nabokov and his 24 saves on 29 shots (prior to the 6h goal). Yeah, I guess he turned in the best on-ice performance by an Islanders goalie tonight, but...

Also, sorry to see that JVR got hurt.

if Barry Smith doing the Hawks power play isn't an indictment of the coaching staff...nothing is. I believe he is the one that fixed the PK two weeks ago, or someone else who is close to Scotty.

Hawks management/coaching is just depressing me right now. Before the season everything was looking up...

...but right now it seems like our GM is making some wishy-washy moves, our coach has totally lost control of the locker room, and the players just look like they want to coast through half of their games.

It is really amazing to see the team that played so hard last night (two desperate-looking teams in that game, was a damn exciting hockey game), and then compare it to the team that played against the Ducks and Kings.

I hate Gary Bettman but he holds his own in interviews. This is a good one with Bob Costas.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22825103...93035#46593035

I did just catch him say Winnipeg and Quebec would be the first places to relocate to. So answers the questions if Phoenix moves where they will be going.

Watch the interview with both him and Stern. I like that he can admit they screwed up royally with the first crease rule. His three biggest mistakes were ones I'd agree with him on.

He said Might Ducks 3 though. That's how young he is. He was one when the first one came out.

I liked Wheeler saying he didn't want to screw it up cause he didn't know who to go to.
