Saw this too... kind of interesting. He is a solid stay-at-home guy and a benefit to any team he plays for. However, he doesn't exactly address the Bruins need for offensive help from the blueline.

Well if nothing else we added some experienced guys as depth. With the prices that guys were going for today I can't say I'm too upset.

Mottau is similar in style to Zanon. If anything, the Bruins defense got stingier, more experienced and meaner. They will be even more tough to play against.

I think they're just going to stick with the status quo for now. Won the cup without a major offensive defenseman. Unless you want to include Kaberle. :lol They're really high on Hamilton who is having a monster year in the OHL so I dont think they wanted to make a major commitment to a puck moving guy when Hamilton will likely make the team next year.

Bruins have 8 NHL defensemen right now by adding those 2. I think 1 of them will probabky push Corvo up to the press box. Boychuk also has a concussion so they both may end up playing right away.

Biggest ?'s of the day Calgary, Habs and Caps. Habs made a small move but they suck. Flames will never get better doing what they are doing and the Caps well...the Caps.

Nashville did pretty good but I'm not sure if the moves will actually help Gaustad is a nice addition but is he gonna help a team like the Preds?? I dunno. It's a wait and see trade for them.

This is a good point. I've watched some Hamilton stuff and was REALLY hoping the Avs would pick him up in the draft. He'll be a Rob Blake type player if he develops correctly.

Not that I'm complaining about them picking up Landeskog instead...

Vancouver proved last year that you can never have enough experienced depth defensemen for a long playoff run, and Boston had a front row seat to that learning experience.:lol I like both of the pickups, I hope that wasn't misunderstood. Anyone who knows me round these parts know that no one appreciates a solid stay-at-home guy more than me.

EDIT: Chiarelli is proving his muck as a guy who's got a good feel for adding pieces to the complete puzzle (i.e. with Kelly and Peverley last year). It seems many GM's just go for the biggest names available (Nashville going for Gaustad), but Chiarelli has proven able at evaluating the teams needs and properly addressing them.

That's a pretty good return for John Scott.

But, the Hawks just got even softer. The fact is, even though Scott only played a few minutes, other teams' players certainly didn't take runs at our guys very often with him in the lineup.

Hawks are a middle of the road team right now. We needed a top 6 forward and didn't get it. I don't care if it was expensive, if you want to win, you pay those prices with picks. Dumb.

I'm glad the Wings didn't cave. If a 3rd/4th line guy is worth basically a 1st rounder and the dude is a rental that's dumb. And if they think that will make Suter stay they are kidding themselves. What if he walks along with Kostitsyn? You gave up stuff for...nothing.

I like Scott for what he does. Fighter first of all, but can play minutes on bottom D pairing. He's no Chara, but he knows his role and does it pretty well. Guys are scared of him... I remember one interview where he mentioned he was frustrated because he tries to fight, but guys won't go with him.

Last time Nashville made the "big splash" it got them bounced in round 1 for the 2nd straight year. They'll be tough to play against but they are already. At least Parise will look good in the Winged Wheel this summer.

He averaged about 4-5 minutes of ice time a game. He was a waste of a roster spot. Made Keith/Seabs/Leddy eat up more minutes because he couldn't. He was a liability every time he skated. Nice guy on all accounts, but I don't want him on the roster.

If Nashville was going to give up a 1st they should have tried to get a guy who can actually put the puck in the net. Gaustad is solid defensively but he won't be lighting the lamp very often.

I will admit I didn't watch him as much as you, so I would have to refer to your judgement here. And let me be clear that I don't by any means see him as a big minute player. 4-5 minutes a night is about right for a guy like him. That is about right for d-men sitting in the 6-7 spot anyways.

It was just tough because everyone knew his role, and it had nothing to do with hockey.

He can't be the guy to do literally anything except fight. He didn't hit even, really, because he can't skate. His sole purpose was to fight, and he didn't even really do that, since no one would fight him. Every time he touched the puck in our own zone, I would freak out. Huge liability, big guy that doesn't hit, can't skate, only fights. That's not a player that dresses for SC winning teams.

Fair enough. Again, I'll defer to your judgement. I've seen him play and have noted differences in terms of his physicality, and I consider myself at least decently able to judge a players skills. But I definitely don't watch Hawks games to the magnitude that you do, so you've got this one.

And I'm sorry about Roy. :shrug

I'm sure a lot of Wings fans, and other teams fans, will say how come they didn't do anything?!? Prices are high and if you want to give that much up for a rental you do so at your own risk. For Wings they are an older team and have to rebuild behind the scenes and giving up those picks hurts them when Lidstrom retires.

I will totally disagree with Chris here. John Scott was a valuable member of this team...because when he's in your lineup, your top guys don't have to be out there playing scared and worrying about getting destroyed on the boards and being run by the other team. Or, if it happens, Scott can get out there and pummel someone. Yeah it hasn't happened often this season, but getting rid of him only makes a soft team even softer. Hawks need grit with Montador and Carcillo likely both done for the year. And now they trade away Scott.

Shouldn't have done anything. Personally, I'd rather they just hold Toews out for the rest of the year unless we somehow snuck into the playoffs. Don't take any chances with him, then try to make some deals in the off-season and load up for the next couple of years. Quenneville is done. Players just aren't playing for him anymore and his coaching staff doesn't know how to PK or PP.
