Well since Kings got phaneuf their chances of playoffs are looking better. He has 3 goals in 4 games with the Kings. Had 3 goals in 53 games this season with Senators.

I haven’t followed the Oilers/Lucic much but my opinion changed of him when we was on the Kings. And not just because he was a King. It took awhile to come around for me, but I saw he was a different player than when he was when he was a Bruin. He had matured. And Sutter had made it clear to him to not dick around, so to speak. I was sad to see him leave.

I didn't like the signing when they did it because I didn't think he would come close to being worth the term. Maybe it's just the year the Oilers are having but I dunno. Find out next year I guess.

Also happy to see my Wings finding a way to lose in regulation. They were fighting but again, extra points mean nothing.

Lucic is effective when he's playing on the edge. When he's doing that, he gets guys looking over their shoulders, making mistakes because they are looking out for him. I really noticed it during an Avs/Oil game a month (?) ago. He delivered some huge hits, to the point that you could visibly see the Avs getting more tentative when he was on the ice. They would get the puck and get rid of it as quickly as possible, knowing that he was out there looking for his next big hit. I was both disappointed (in the Avs - pussies) and amazed at Lucic being able to, in essence, control the game like that.

The problem with playing on the edge, of course, is that it becomes easier to cross the line. You're going to get more penalties and you could potentially hinder the team more than helping it.

But it's what Lucic needs to do to be effective. Hit hard, hustle in the corners, then get to the net either create a screen or get a garbage goal. He doesn't really have the skill of a top-line player, but he's awfully effective there because he creates space for the skill guys. But again, he's gotta be playing that edgy game in order to be effective. If he's not, he's just a big body lumbering around out there.

:lol Oh man, he was fun for a hot minute. I actually like the guy's attitude. He's apparently very optimistic and fun to be around, and he works hard when he's on the ice.

Here's the problem with Yakupov that I never noticed when he was on the Oilers (maybe Swordo and MikeD did): He has absolutely ZERO hockey sense. He runs around like a wrecking ball, winging these crazy off-kilter shots at the net from weird angles, always out of position in all three zones. He never stops moving - it's just never in the right direction. It's hilarious :lol

God love him, but he will most certainly not be getting an extension from the Avs.
