I’m all for the sport growing in any way. If Nashville is packing their arena with new fans, I would think that would be a big win. Even if that fan base is still learning the particulars of the game.

OK, here I come to complain about the DoPS again. The inconsistency is troubling.

Landeskog gets 4 games for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zE6C9RGLUHg

Kane doesn't even get a DoPS call for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0sg5TDTTyY

I'm not really seeing much of a difference, other than Landy being a "repeat offender". Which, ok, but Kane doesn't even get a call?

Not trying to be a homer here. I agree that Landeskog should have received supplemental discipline for his cross-check. I just don't like that the calls are so arbitrarily treated. I know, beating a dead horse and preaching to the choir. Just bugs me.

I don't complete disagree, but I do think Landeskogs was much more forceful. Should the DoPS have made at least a phone call, yes, but I don't think they're of the same caliber.

Probably, yes. It doesn't help that Landy had Tkachuk pushed up against the back of the net when he did it, whereas Kane did it on open ice where Fiala didn't absorb as much of the blow.

But yeah, FOUR games versus not even a call is quite the discrepancy.

I do think 4 is excessive especially where Paquette just got 1 for boarding Krug.

I’m probably biased but I thought board was a point of emphasis. Paquette clearly had time to let up and didn’t. So 4 for checking like that vs 1 for boarding isn’t consistent (preaching to the choir I know).

One time I'm gonna have to disagree with you Matty.

Landy cross checked him once which then had him pinned against the net and off balance and he then even more violently cross-checked the same guy this time in the throat/face. Was Kane's nasty? Absolutely and he deserved SOMETHING from the DoPS, even if it's just a fine. He deserved to be on the "repeat offender" list as a result of this, but Landy's was absolutely worse.

So, I haven’t been around the last week or so really, but I just did a back read and would like to sum up the last couple pages in four key points that show that some things in the NHL thread never change.

1. Jamie still not understanding that his Hawks bias and man-crush on Patrick Kane are both real and effect how he views the sport.

2. H2P is back and still elite, way more elite than the rest of us.

3. Matty is still disappointed in the DoPS.

4. The Oilers are still terrible.

Accurate. As for things that HAVE changed... I've actually been reasonably impressed with Tyson Barrie's play of late. He's been OK in his own end. But that's more a change in his play than in my way of thinking, I guess. Basically, if you are a defenseman that plays good defense, I will like you (ahem PK Subban).

So yeah... I guess nothing has changed for me.

Incredible back-check there from Kane on the first one, smart not to get the sick up by the hands. That makes no sense, it should have definitely been the reverse.

Requirement for a penalty shot is that the player's forward motion must be impeded while on a breakaway from a trailing player. No way Kane did that. Bad call. I'm just surprised to see him backchecking. ;)

2nd vid should have been hooking, no penalty shot.

Flyers definitely got a chance against this team. Although, Marchy and Backes are back so they would have had a better chance last week.

Simmons landed a few good punches. Miller barely made a scratch.
