Duchene to Sens is happening. He just left the ice mid game. Not all details released yet.

Reported return is

From OTT:
Bowers
Hammond
1st
3rd

From NSH
Girard
Kamenev
3rd

Huge haul. Not the NHL ready d-man they wanted, but Sakic certainly got a killer return. Girard I think will be the key piece. Puzzled by Hammond since they’ve got Bernier ... maybe will flip him?

Please let this trade do for the franchise what the Lindros trade did for the franchise. *crosses fingers*

I would hope so. These players were heavily scouted by the organization and they seem confident in what they are getting.

But let’s be clear: in the short term, the Avs as an NHL squad are worse than they were before the trade. That’s just what happens when you trade a top guy for picks and prospects. All three guys could see time with the club this year, especially with their injuries, but I’m not expecting an immediate impact.

However, let’s take a step back and look at this season. It was meant to be developmental. The oldest guy on the team is like 31. That they are playing well is a bonus. So this is perfect. While I would’ve loved a Hjalmarsson type coming back, I have to be excited about 3 prospects on the cusp of the NHL and a top 10 1st next year.

Is the only piece leaving Duchene?

Ya know, I liked the tenacity and grit of Andrew Shaw when he was in Chicago, up until his LGBT slur but now he is just scum to me. He is dirty as hell and getting dirtier. He took a cheapshot at Seabrook and it was great to see Seabrook knock him on his ass with a full speed check, then Shaw in trying to screen Crawford interfered with him by making contact and the puck went in to make it 2-0 Habs. Be nice after how well Crawford has been playing if the O would give him some support. That Lindgrin kid in net (the third stringer) played great and deserved that win as much as I might be pissed at the outcome and Shaw - who's Hawks jersey is in my closet will probably be burned tomorrow! Dirty, bigoted prick.

Yeah. And Turris is the only piece leaving OTT for NSH.

Kyle Turris 28 year old solid center with 9 years in the NHL.

Re: The NHL Thread (Penns are garage league champs)

Avs players not pulling punches in post-game interviews. Both Johnson and Landeskog basically saying the team is relieved, as it was obvious Duchene didn’t want to be there and acted like it.

Again, sounds like this is good all around for everyone.

Oh, and Duchene’s first game with the Sens? Against the Avs. In Sweden.

They do. They really do suck. Not sure wtf is wrong with them. Special teams have been horrendous. They tend to play fairly well 5-5, just can't seal the deal.

Here's hoping for another #1 draft pick!

Without back reading, can someone sum up what happened with the trade yesterday? I just heard about it on my way in to work today. Guess players were pulled during the Ave's game last night?

Duchene was traded as part of a 3-way deal between COL, NSH, and OTT. It was finalized in the middle of the Avs game, so he left the ice during a stoppage of play. Super weird.

So, Ottawa gets Duchene.

Nashville gets Kyle Turris.

Avs get (deep breath)
From OTT:
Bowers
Hammond
1st
3rd

From NSH
Girard
Kamenev
3rd

We need a photo of him browsing Ants under his true alias, Brohan.

Not sure if I like the trade from the Sens standpoint. Duchene is obviously better than Turris, but is he that much of an upgrade to give up all of what they did?

Right? A 1st, 3rd (2019), and their 1st rounder from last year (Bowers). Hammond essentially a salary dump. Sakic agreeing to taking him on (and the Avs have plenty of space to do so) probably sweetened the pot. Maybe what landed them that 3rd rounder.

If Duchene can find his game with guys like Hoffman and Stone, then he very well could be worth it. He's a world-class player when he's firing on all cylinders. But yeah, it's a lot to give up. I still can't believe the Avs got 7 pieces back for him.

I guess maybe from the Sens POV this is them going all in to get to a final. So I can kinda get it but I still dont think this puts them over the top at all.

:lol he’s doing really well, it was his bday dinner. You can totally tell the difference in him when he talks about playing/the team. I told him it’s nice to see him having fun again while he’s playing. He said the whole team’s demeanor is so much more positive, guys actually want to go to the rink and practice.

Looking at it from Ottawa's perspective this makes a lot of sense to me.

- Number 1 centers almost never hit the market when they are in their prime, if you have a shot at one go for it.

- Duchene is a better player than Turris.

- Turris is a free agent at years end and it is unlikely he was coming back since they could not work out an extension during the offseason or camp.

- Duchene has this season and next next on his contract.

- Sens made the ECF last season last year and they over-achieved like crazy, maybe Duchene is that missing piece that puts them over the edge.

- Ottawa still has nearly 2.5 mil in cap space to address any deficiency at the deadline to compliment Duchene.
