Hey Barbs, not sure if you have ever seen the FX show "The American's" (it is about KGB spies in the US set in the early 1980's) but an ep I watched last night had a reference to the Caps. One of the Russian's who works at the embassy is asking out a secretary and he leaves a Caps ticket on her desk and tells her to scalp it or join him. Apparently the word scalp doesn't translate in context to Russian so he has to explain. She also has no clue who the Caps are so he explain that they are 'an American hockey team that plays like a bunch of amateurs' which was not intended to apply only to the Caps but to the entire NHL who the dude viewed as basically a bunch of klutzes and bullies playing on smaller rinks and not passing the puck enough.

Yeah I watched that show through the first season and there are multiple Caps references throughout it. Pretty cool. The opening scene of the show I believe referenced a Caps/Kings game.

Yeah, I think I recall the scene you mean - don not want to spoil it in case anyone plans on giving it a try but I think the 2 guys standing in the dark waiting for a friend were talking about the game. I have not noted many specific Caps references (the one I mentioned was from season 2) but they do show people (even a ton of Americans) with hockey on their TV's or talking about hockey. It is pretty cool how they work that in - I am really enjoying this series and have no clue how I never saw it before a few weeks ago, just keeps getting better and better too.

Yeah, they tend to show a lot of hockey in the background TV's in social settings but them actually talking about it is not very often. I like the show a lot, interesting plot lines, unexpected twists, great characters and a solid background in historical fact.
