Re: The NHL Thread
Yeah I'm not too down for the derogatory slurs either. Matty is right, it's been a part of the game for a long time. But that doesn't really make it right. I'm not calling for Shaw's head or anything, I know he's just a player like everyone else and one of ten thousand who have used that word on the ice, still I wish there would be more of an example to remove words like that from the on ice trash talking scene.
I mean, imagine if a camera had've caught a Cap calling Wayne Simmonds a, well, you know. Same kind of deal here. |
Re: The NHL Thread
always happy to see the rangers inability to play defense and control a neutral zone :rolleyes
17 shots over 3 periods, :lol |
Re: The NHL Thread
Tickets for tonight's game 4 tilt have plummeted. Looks like you can get in the building now for right around $60.
Who wants to go to Phillie today? |

These playoffs are really interesting so far haha.
Anyway, Rangers just need to win game 4. Although if they go down 3-1 it is apparently not the end of the world for this team either. Hawks losing both at home is surprising me. |

"If he did use a homophobic slur, the NHL has to act on that, and "emotions were high" is simply not an excuse for that kind of behavior. The You Can Play Project, an organization "that is dedicated to ensuring equality, respect and safety for all athletes, without regard to sexual orientation and/or gender identity," and an organization teamed up with the Blackhawks on a partnership just two weeks ago, has already said that it will be reaching out to the NHL to "immediately assist in an appropriate response." A slur on its own would be worthy of a suspension from the league. If you're looking for some sort of precedent here, former enforcer Krys Barch was suspended one game for making a racist joke directed at Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban, while James Wisniewski was once suspended two games for making an obscene gesture directed at Sean Avery. When you add in the fact he flipped off the referees two different times (with both hands!) and was simply out of control it only adds to the ridiculousness of the entire display. Together, it should all be enough to at least keep him out of the next game of the series. If not more." |

Also, I am not melting for once about my team and you hit me with that kind of negativity! :lol:lol My outlook on this series is that what ever happens it is okay. We have had a bunch of long runs recently, so if is not meant to be, what does it matter if we lose in round one or round two? And if it is meant to be, the loss last night doesn't matter! |

So the league isn't going to look at the Letang high stick on Stalberg? Huh.

If anything, it really is an indicator that things need to change. I mean, when the two biggest skeptics in here regarding discipline in this instance are two guys that play hockey (Chris and myself), maybe that's just a small demonstration to how desensitized the hockey community has become. Doesn't mean we like it or take part in it (I don't and I'm sure Chris doesn't), but we're probably both used to it to the point that it's just another chirp. And that's not great. Hockey players are some of the nicest athletes out there, but man, put them out on the ice and it's like you unleashed the beast verbally. There's a story in Kerry Fraser's book where he talks about how Claude Lemieux once made Theo Fleury cry because of something he said. |
Re: The NHL Thread
I feel like the longer the series goes the worse it is for the Pens. It doesn't sound good the prospects of having to go back to MSG for a game 6 and NO ONE wants a game 7 at Consol.

Last night - UGH, that was brutal. Getting 3 past Elliot and still losing is tough. No idea how that shot by Anisimov did not cross the line last night. Some strange hops of the puck on the ice last night. Losing 2 in a row at home put them in a deep hole. For the series Chicago is not playing bad at all, defense looks solid, Crawford is playing well and every game has been a 1 goal game. Offense and neutral zone giveaways have been a big problem. 4 assists by Kane, 2 assists by Toews, 3 assists by Panarin (I too believe that puck never touched him and it should been given to Keith) - other than that you have 3 goals by Keith (likely 4 as stated), a pair by Shaw, one by Anisimov, one by Seabrook and the one credited to Panarin that should have gone to Keith IMO - other than that you are looking at squat, St. Louis (lead by Elliot who is playing amazing) has done a great job shutting down the big guns on O. EDIT: IF (very big if) somehow Chicago can rattle off 3 in a row to advance that is a ton of momentum going into round 2 - that is about the only thing I can hope for at this point because Chicago is just getting shut down, taking stupid penalties and giving the puck away in the neutral zone far too often for a team with so many great players with plenty of experience in big games. |
