There is that as well plus the fact that they have qualified for the playoffs every year since 2007–08 - in addition to the 3 cups they have also made it to the conference finals twice, once loosing a well played, OT packed conference final to Detroit in 2009 and then loosing the conference final again in 2014 to LA in a wild 7 game series that needed OT to decide game 7. Also, don't count out coach Q, when it gets to crunch time he has a nice habit of pushing the right buttons.

Take all the shots you like against Panarin but I will stack him up against Ghostfairy any day of the week.

I'd be more worried about the Caps than the Hawks. As Aero mentioned, the Blackhawks have actually won stuff in recent years while the Caps have consistently choked.

Yup, and who knows what would have been in store for 2011 if it weren't for fucking Chris Campoli turning the puck over.

God damnit I hate Chris Campoli.

Obviously there are no guarantees but the Oilers have the best (20%) chance at the first overall pick...again. They are tied for league worst 67 pts with just 3 games remaining. Everyone else in the basement has 6 games left :lol

I hope they get it, I hope they trade it.

How many 1st overall picks will it take for the Oilers to be relevant again?

Trick question.

If you get the number one pick I would use it on Michael Garteig, the goalie from Quinnipiac - assuming he would leave the college for his senior year. He is a star, with him and McDavid you have a solid core to build around with trades and signing other guys!

I'm gonna go with none, because they'll never be relevant again

Re: The NHL Thread

If Edmonton gets #1, they either need to take Matthews or trade it. I wouldn't even consider taking anyone else. I love trying to think outside the box (we all know how well my Seth Jones to Avs draft idea worked out), but Matthews is such a generational talent that whether they trade the pick or take him, they're coming out on top.

If they trade it, the return could be gigantic. The Oilers could solve a few problems with that trade alone. Plus, having another generational talent in McDavid helps. Trade that #1 pick, move Yakupov, move Nugent-Hopkins if the return is right (all for defensive and goalie help), and hope that history doesn't repeat itself again.

Or, keep him. Still move Yakupov and Nuge, see how it works with Hall, and keep Eberle to verify the chemistry with McDavid continues.

I'm skeptical of the Oilers finding any sort of success as they continue to do what they're doing, but both of those options seem pretty good to me.

Yes. If Edmonton gets #1 again, trade it for all you can. Trade some of the other guys that Matty mentioned.

In those trades, get some D-men and/or another goalie. They seem to need a better tandem than what they have.

ding ding ding! we have a winner.

Also would have accepted "one million" or "who cares they'll fuck it up all their picks anyway"

He did a stupid thing in the heat of the moment as many professional athletes from all real sports do. Can you actually in all honestly you would not try to defend your player when it costs your team a key cog in a playoff position game?

not when the player blatantly slashes another guy in the face with his stick.

Oilers already have a goalie in Cam Talbot, and if the Oilers just got the 1st overall pick this year and picked someone other than Auston Matthews, Peter Chirallei would be fired in a heartbeat.

:thumbsup And with the second half that Talbot is having, they may be wise to stick with him as their starter. Seek to upgrade the backup situation, but that's it. I for one would be very interested to see how Talbot does with an overhauled defense in front of him.
