You don't get to swing your stick like a baseball bat at a man's head as a retaliation for a hit

Also, I've now seen the whole play, what exactly about Coyle's initial hit would you consider cheap?

I would swing like that after coyle flattened him while Keith was off balance.

I would have after what coyle did.

Maybe, I would say 3 to 4 games tops.

That is what I mean and that was the cheapshot I meant. Also I seriously doubt he will get ten games and lets face it, Chicago is still the defending champions and team to beat in the playoffs. Also I would have done the exact same think Keith did, sure it was dumb but coyle deserved it for his action in flattening Keith while he was off balance and never even saw the hit coming.

Remind me to never play in a league with lcsulla. But I wear a full face cage. So maybe I'd be ok.

Whoever says he has the goggles on. This is correct.

I'd give Keith 7-10 for repeat offender. Dude gets heated and reckless. At least third or fourth incident now.

Re: The NHL Thread

just because a player is off balance doesn't mean a hit is dirty or a cheapshot. The hit wasn't blindside nor toward his back either. Keeth was facing Coyle.

I mean, dude, I play D too, but would never swing my stick up high at a guy like that. That's some busch league nonsense.

Would I have been happy about being taken down like that? No, when he does that you get up, take some hacks at his shin pads/legs next time, or give him a good shove in the back, maybe even wait until the next time you're tangled up and give him a quick elbow to the ribs or something...but don't swing a stick up at his fuckin' face.

At the least it's a game misconduct. Match penalty is probably right, but I could see a 5 minute major + game misconduct if you thought that MAYBE he did it on accident. But guys at that level have such good control of their sticks (that's what she said), accidental is a little far fetched. You might see that in some local D level men's league, but not the NHL.

In Jamie's defense, I would have been pissed to be knocked over like that, too. Was it dangerous? No, but it certainly wasn't something I would be happy about. Just because they were facing each other doesn't mean it wasn't kinda cheap.

BUT, that's not saying Keith's actions are justified, just that I'd imagine 99% of hockey players would look to get some kind of little retaliation at some point. Keith just took it to level 100 when it should have been level like...7.

Yeah, like I was saying last night, there's plenty of other, cleaner ways to retaliate if you don't like the hit. Get his number and take care of it later, or at least get up and face him like a man.

My dad always said, "I don't mind if you get penalties, as long as you can see his face when you do it." I obviously didn't always remember that counsel, but the lesson is there.

I feel ya, brother. They constructed a pretty good team. Not a championship team but certainly a playoff team. They just can't finish games. There's no confidence, no swagger, and the team overall seems lost. No common goal, no sticking up for each other. A lot of positive growth from individual players, but nothing cohesive.

Yeah, the D needs to get better, but I think the problem is really leadership. I love the IDEA of Landy as a captain, but do they need to make a change there? I know not all leadership happens on the ice, but that component seems to be missing. And Iginla... Either he's hurt or just coasting through the final years of his contract.

And as much as the legend of Patrick is and always will be strong in Denver, it's time to take a hard look at whether he's working out. I mean, with the way they've played, especially these last 20 games, the coaching HAS to come into question. I think he gets one more season to see if they can try to rebuild some of the culture they were so close to attaining earlier in the season. Disappointing for sure, and frankly Minnesota just deserves it more.

I was gonna say last night, with all the things he's said he'd like to see happen to players, his statement that he would do the same doesn't really surprise me.

Dumba's not dirty. He plays hard and physical for his size, but he's not dirty.

It was completely cheap because it had nothing do to with the run of play and it prevented Keith from getting back to help defend against a Wild rush. Agreed he took it a bit far and probably should have waited to get him along the boards and spear or cross check the guy but in a tie game (at that point) he did stop the Wild's rush. Guess we will see what the NHL thinks today, I can not imagine a lengthy suspension after a pissed off guy only got ten games (after appeal) for cross checking a ref in the back - maybe he gets 3 or 4 game any longer and it is BS and I am not even sure if you can appeal that one.

Yeah, I do but they are pick up games at local rinks where we don't even wear pads and no one checks very hard, your biggest concern would be getting hit with a puck, falling down and hitting your head or getting tangled in the net. We are all far too old to play full contact and we all have to go to work the next day so no one is trying to hurt anyone.

Did you see his head to head shot on Kane who never saw it coming? That is why Shaw was jawing at him and eventually dropped the gloves a bit later. It is also why half the team skated over to the box after the fight and shook Shaw's hand and the entire bench was clapping or tapping their sticks against the boards.
