Also, it wasn't like my take was really crazy, most of the NHL analysts felt both teams may have found a way to get better and should be good this year. It didn't wortout that way. |

I am actually being serious that if we are going to allow that goal last night to be okay, I am totally in favor of just allowing kicking goals to count. It will improve scoring and take away the annoyance of having to figure out what the NHL means by "distinct kicking motion" on any given play/day. |

Never understood why you couldn't kick a puck in. Stupid rule.

McDavid is unreal to watch in person. Second time I've been able to see him. It's just crazy to see him do things, skating wise/acceleration, that no one else can do. It's just something to behold. |

Ayyyyyy regulation win for the Caps in Boston! Great way to start the 2nd half of the season!

Re: The NHL Thread
Good win for Washington, Boston looked a little sluggish with all the time off. I thought in watching live that the 2nd goal was offside for the Caps but apparently not. DeBrusk needs to come back soon.

For anyone interested in watching Dustin’s banner ceremony. At the end, they brought out the Cup. Which I don’t know of them doing that before for a banner / retirement ceremony. Truly special moment and one that Dustin didn’t know was happening.
Personally, it was an emotional, exciting night. Got to go down on the ice after the game and take pictures with the banner and the Cup. Then party all night. A few players from the Cup winning teams came in, even ones actively playing on other teams, which I thought was cool. Dustin statue is ehhhh. :lol the face is kinda hideous but still amazing. https://youtu.be/TlBk0QPwc1Q I’ll work on him getting to post on Ants but don’t hold your breath, I think he’s busier now traveling my with his kids for their hockey tournaments. |

Re: The NHL Thread
Per ESPN:
Hours after they announced that both players would be held out for trade reasons, the Washington Capitals sent Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway to the Boston Bruins on Thursday. In return, the Capitals received Craig Smith, a 2023 first-round pick, a 2024 third-round pick and a 2025 second-round selection. The Minnesota Wild also announced they received a 2023 fifth-round pick and will retain 50% of Orlov's salary. The signing rights to Andrei Svetlakov went to Boston. |

Usually you go all in when you are a player or so away but the Bruins are absolutely rolling this year. Even though they do have some older players they have enough younger talent where even if the older guys start leaving they can still add pieces on the fly and so I would keep assets.

Re: The NHL Thread
The Patrick Kane rumors surrounding the Rangers is getting crazy at this point.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
Officially pissed at Oshie. Not a great hit and that might be a huge blow to the Rangers playoff hopes as well as attempts to bring in Kane. Might need to replace a key D spot now.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
So I am sitting in a hotel in Montreal doing some work watching the Rangers game before heading the Habs v Sens game later tonight; Seems like a great time to have a classic Greg Rangers melt.
The Rangers are obsessing about bringing in Patrick Kane, but they have way bigger issues. Currently down 3-1 to the Caps, the Rangers poor defense, shaky starting goaltending (which I can't believe I am saying) and poor starts to games are on full display. You can have a high powered offense and bring in Kane, but what good does that do you if you can't keep the puck out of the net consistently. The Oliers have tried to win a Cup doing that the past few years and it doesn't work. With Lindgren likely out a while, I think NY should be focused on tightening up the D rather than bringing in a huge defensive liability like Kane. I obviously will be excited if the Kane trade happens, but I have been down this road with the Rangers a lot in my life. It will almost be impossible for that trade not to blow up in New Yorks face. They would basically need to win the cup for it not to be a bust. The Rangers are looking like they are about to lose their 4th straight game for the first time since November. However, it is worse than that as the last 2-3 games before the losing streak they were also down big early in every game (by 2-4 goals) before needing to make huge comebacks. That does not seem like a very good team to me right now. Edit: 4-1 now...ugh |
Re: The NHL Thread
avalanche just sent F prospect shane bowers to boston for goalie keith kinkade, who will report to the avs AHL affiliate. not sure the purpose of the trade. avs #2 goalie francouz has been out with a LBI, but they already have 2 AHL goalies they've been bouncing back and forth. i guess kinkaid has more NHL experience, but idk if he is any better than what the avs already had available.
