One of my writers analyzed the last 5 Cup champs and compared them to this year's Flyers. This is depressing

I don't necessarily think it's depressing. Between the Penguins and Hawks, the NHL lockout came at the right time for them. They were terrible and were able to successfully build around the draft because they had high picks.

The Flyers haven't been so fortunate. Yes, they had the 2nd overall pick in 2007--but the trade that they made for Schenn can be seen at the time, and even now, as a lateral move.

In news that I'm sure makes most hockey fans cringe, John Scott will be in the lineup Friday against Toronto. Nolan confirmed that after practice. Also said he's tossing the idea of bringing Kaleta back up around.

Woohoo! Tank is still in motion.

I'm seriously tempted to just mute games I watch on NBC Sports, just so I don't have to listen to Pierre. How does the guy even have a job? Even Olczyk is starting to drive me nuts... I'm sorry, but after the 3 millionth time, "great stick by [player]" stops sounding insightful.

Unfortunately, I really like Doc so the volume stays up.

If Doc could just call the games, with Jones doing color, it would be the perfect team.

3 homes games in a row without a goal. Lovin' the high-powered offense.

It should be awesome. I am going to try and catch the game online if I can. Since moving into Toronto I haven't had much time to do the thing I used to do religiously.

This. I love Doc. He's an insanely nice guy in person too (met him in the press box last season and he was so pleasant). And Jones is just great in general so I would be all for him being the color man to Doc's beautiful use of words.

This is very good news for me about OT. Had no idea though that the only two teams to vote against the shootout coming out of the 05 lockout were Detroit and Chicago. Good on ya Chicago.

Glad to hear he's a nice guy, I would totally expect that. I love how he's able to so seamlessly transition into telling about some strange anecdote about a player or team. A lot of announcers go off on these annoying tangents, but Doc has the ability to do it without taking away from the game itself. I also really love his enthusiasm.

Jones has really grown into a good commentator. Not all former players can do it effectively (ahem, Roenick), but Jones does a great job of combining his wisdom as a former player with a good sense of how to conduct himself in a media environment.

Eddie O is awful and Pat Foley makes him worse. Awful stuff.

Ever watch any other teams? Most announcers are extraordinarily dull.

Jack Edwards isn't dull, he might be a lot of things but dull isn't one of them.

Edwards > Emrick

Eddie is great on Hawks games with Foley.

I'm not a huge fan of his during NBC broadcasts though.

BTW, with Quick going down for 4-6 weeks, I think the Sochi starting job is now Miller's to lose.

Opinions!

But yeah. You watch enough Hawks games you are bound to roll your eyes at Pat & Edzo's schtick. Tree turdy tree and all you young hockey players and whatnot. That said, I like that Eddie O. is not exactly a homer on the scale of Drew Remenda and he seems like a pretty intelligent analyst.

When I didn't have cable and had to find streams, watching Sharks/Yotes/Blues/Jackets/Avs games on their respective stations was pretty painful. Their announcers range from blind homers to milquetoast.

Flyers have some really good announcers from what I've seen.

Nothing beats Doc though.

I love Foley and Eddie. They're hilarious together, you can tell they have a lot of fun and truly enjoy the game, and they both know their shit.

I'm not tired of it at all.

For those of us who watched when Foley was kicked out if the organization know how awful it was without him. I couldn't be happier with that combo, and am so happy for Foley. He's a class act, loves his job, loves the Hawks, is a really great person, and does a great job with play by play. Tree turdy tree forever.

Yes I want to be clear I love Pat & Eddie.

I can't believe there are people who complain about Olczyk when his fill-in (Konroyd) is incredibly boring, and is just about the opposite of "insightful."

I don't want to watch but I can't look away. If they're not careful they'll get relegated and the NHL will bring up the top AHL team in their place.

Hawks really need to do something with the backup goalie situation, wonder if the give Raanta a shot later this year.

Pat and Eddie have laughed at the same stupid jokes they make for 4 years straight, every time like they've never heard each other say "tree turdy tree" before. It got old a while ago for me.

Kings looked like a different team in the 3rd. The young guys really stepped up to get the win, which is good to see. I feel I can exhale a little bit now.
