This would be tough to say. You can't discredit what Nylander and Marner have done so far this year. (Excuse me for not being precise on their stats ATM, I know some might get butt hurt if I just throw number out there). They both are sort of products of the system that the Leafs are running, but you still can't discredit there production.

Also don't forget Aho and Werenski. Both those guys have had stellar rookie seasons as well. Probably not top 5 for Calder but their contributions have certainly helped their respective clubs.

This rookie class is very deep and very talented. Forgot to mention Tkachuk as well, he's having a solid year himself.

Matthews
Laine
Murray
Werenski
Marner
Nylander
Aho

thats how i see the calder shaking out

Agreed, though my first place vote would go to Laine, he has been more valuable to his team than Matthews IMO. Going to be a close race.

He deserves to at least be mentioned.

59 GP, 21 G, 29 A, 50 Pts

No, he is not eligible since he played in 44 games last year and the criteria states you are considered a rookie if you: "have played any more than 25 regular season games previously in any single season, nor have played in more than six regular season games in each of two separate preceding seasons in any major professional league."

In short, Shattenkirk has been good but I haven't seen a hugely significant upgrade from someone like Carlson yet. Granted I really haven't watched all that closely this season.

Oshie and Ovie have been so hot lately though it would be hard to be on the same PP unit as those guys and not get a bunch of assists. Hence why Backstrom has 10 assists in his last 5 games. Again that's not to say Sharts isn't good just that he's playing on the top unit of a really good powerplay that's hotter than usual right now.

Still really good. Especially for a player joining a new team mid-season.

My next question (and the most important one) was going to be how he looked in his own zone. Sounds like he's doing about as expected. Not "Ryan Suter", but not "PK Subban" either.

This season's deep rookie class has led to a lot of people overlooking Werenski as a legit Calder nominee. He deserves it. Watched him play a couple times this year and had to double check that he really was a rookie. Man, the Jackets have made some great personnel decisions over the last couple seasons.

But as we've said before. Trophy nomination does not always equate to greatness.

you guys can't forget about Provorov either. He's not even close to winning the Calder, but he's been one of the best rookies this season.

I think that actually is better and leaves it open for more creative marketing campaigns. 'Paint the down black & yellow, etc.'

Sorry I can't appease everyone. Sorry the Kings couldn't make the playoffs. What bet did you lose that you had to have a Rags avatar?
