Cluster fuck indeed. McPhee really needed to go, he had long overstated his welcome. Now that all this stuff has come out about how difficult he is to work with and work for, and how agents have steered players away from Washington because of that, it's definitely for the best.

Oates got a little bit of a raw deal.

My big question going forward is how does Leonsis handle the Ovechkin situation. The secret's out now in that he's clearly a problem. While there's upside, there's a whole lot of downside and that's finally taking center stage. So if he's gonna trade him, the time is now while his value is still infinite. If he wants to stay the course with Ovie, he's gonna have to decide if he's in it for a Cup or for money and ticket sales. If the answer is the former, he's gonna have to bring in someone at the GM level who will bring in a coach that will reel Ovie in and find a way to get him committed as a two way player. If the answer to the question is we're in it for ticket sales, then they can keep Ovie the way it is now, but they'll still need to find a way to keep the team competitive. Ovie may sell jerseys and TV commercials, but the fans won't stick around for a loser for very long.

So it's gonna be interesting to see what happens. Leonsis actually looked pretty shell shocked for a change. But Dick Patrick (team pres) made a disturbing comment. "How can you not be happy with what Ovechkin has accomplished in DC?". That's not good. It's a bad time right now.
