I'm sure there are--but I wasn't trying to argue that. The suspension was well deserved.

Marchand has a history, I believe, right? As a repeat offender he was going to get something. The hit was very dangerous. It's not a hip check at all. He takes out his legs, and everyone who knows physics, knows that Salo is going to fall on his head. It was stupid and reckless.

Yeah, it's really tough. I can't imagine what it's like for that kid that hit him. At only 16. There were people (kids) sending him death threats on Facebook apparently.

Marchand had one suspension and a fine prior to this one. But look at this hit by Rene Borque which occurred 2 games after he came off a suspension and he got 5 for this. The hit was cheap but not as bad as this hit by Borque which received the same suspension. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I38dKQlTP1E

I know. Head shots are not the only suspendable hit in the league. Marchand and Salo had the exact same play only 10 seconds before the hit, and Marchand did the right thing. What he did on that hit was completely unnecessary.

I'm aware. Like I've said it's a dirty play. However I think 5 games is pretty ridiculous given that similar hits have not even been penalized, and he got the same suspension as Bourque, who was fresh off a suspension and issued a head shot.

An interesting take from an anonymous player. But again the whole 14 teams in one conference and 16 in the other doesn't matter so I'm not sure I'm buying this. Even if Phoenix moves East you'll still have two divisions of 8 and two of 7. Doesn't matter where those divisions are located.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

It was a bad hit. Is Marchand a dirty player? I don't think he is yet. It's too early in his career to say. He's a very young guy and he has made some mistakes and he plays the instigator, the antagonizer sometimes. If he continues to make plays like this, then he is definitely going to be considered a dirty player down the road. But if he learns from it, matures, and reigns it in a tough then he can avoid that. And really, it seems like the guys--forwards in particular--who mix it up and play a strong defensive game are going to be called "dirty" by a faction of people. It kind of goes with the territory. But it's the dangerous hits that can cause nasty injuries that Marchard needs to avoid, obviously.

Yeah I had a bad feeling he was going to make it. It's crap and coming from a Caps fan, I feel like it's detrimental to him, because this reinforces to him that his mediocrity on the ice is still outweighed by his star power off the ice. This basically says "it's ok to be a 30 goal guy, just as long as you wear cool sunglasses and safari hats during the skills challenge, you'll still be considered one of the best players in the league."

The fact that Ovechkin made it and Nick Backstrom didn't is just ludicrous.

Yup, and he is going to eat that shit up. The league is basically telling him "You don't have to try to earn your stardom, we already handed it to you on a silver plate before seeing if you'd be a consistent player throughout the years".

Name recognition and that's what that whole stupid weekend is about.

Would have liked to see Kronwall on it for the year he's having but again I'm not a fan of this weekend the way I used to be. Also should be pointed out Lidstrom not on it cause he went to Shanny a few weeks back and said he'd prefer the weekend off.

I don't even bother complaining about the all-star rosters anymore, as it's just the same year after year. You always have guys that deserve to be there, but then there's always those few who should be on and aren't, and guys that get in on name recognition alone.

I thought it was a great idea, but again, it didn't draw too much more interest towards the actual game for me than in years past.

Any predictions on who will be the final pick this year? How hilarious would it be if they did it to Kessel, just as a joke?:lol

Let's at least have some fun with this. Out of the rosters, who would you cut, and who would you add in their place?

Cuts:
Milan Michalek (Having a breakout year in goals, but more deserving players out there)
Daniel Alfredsson (respect the hell out him, but like Michalek, I would pick others over him)
Logan Couture
Alex Ovechkin
Dustin Byfuglien
Carey Price

Additions:
Teemu Selanne
Jordan Eberle
Niklas Backstrom
Patrick Sharp or Kris Versteeg. Either one, but leaning more towards Sharp.
Michael Del Zotto
Mike Smith

That whole organization is a huge mess. Gauthier has bent that team over and just shown it who's boss. It's embarrassing really...for a team with a history like theirs especially.

Edit; "@CJ_Stevenson: What a year for Gauthier. A coach fired 90 min before a game, one the morning of a game, now a player traded during a game.

Epic turtle by Subban last night against Andrew freakin Ferrence. Subban hit Krejci high and ducked for cover when ferrence came over.

Weird. I just saw a couple tweets indicating all players taped a "c" on their jerseys for practice today as a sign of solidarity for Sid.

Supposedly Orpik was the ring leader in this. Guy has been complaining a lot lately. Wouldnt be surprised to see him gone at the deadline

I'm not too sure he would like that, considering he'd probably want a team that wins in the playoffs.

Pretty much expected this. I really liked what he brought to the team, much more than I thought I would. Yeah he's a dirty player who goes over the edge too often, but he showed some flashes of skill as well. Fortunately we have a lot of guys who are ready or are close in the AHL.
