Happy islanders have 5 of the first 6 on this 7 game road trip and we aren't even playing well.
That said, I was peeved Okposo left off world cup roster. He should be on it. I know they had to regret leaving him off last Olympic roster. Of course, he won't be an Islander by the time the world cup comes around but he should be on it. |
Re: The NHL Thread
Really? Can't stand Kevin Weekes when he's on the NHL Network doing that NHL tonight show. He's awful with a capital AWFUL!

Edit: To be fair, I'm talking about when he's over accentuating highlights during the reel. His actual analysis when he's being calm and serious is very good. |

No idea how doing something so blatantly against the rules is not a penalty.... |

Re: The NHL Thread
The NHL should change the rule that if a penalty is called on a goalie. The backup goalie has to play during the two min power play AND the team has to skate a man down.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
I'm a Kevin Weekes fan as well. I like Jamie McLennan too... don't know what it is about backup goalies making good commentators. Maybe they got lots of practice while sitting on the bench?
Probably my favorite on-air former player personality is Keith Jones. Loved him as a player, and I think he takes that no-nonsense approach in the broadcasting booth too. Also, his hatred of Milbury is palpable when they're on together, and that always makes me laugh. |

however, when a goalie does something like Hank did last night, or when there is a penalty on a clear cut breakaway, the team who drew the penalty should be able to choose between a PP or a Penalty Shot Pens were roaring down the ice for a 2-on-1 when Hank dislodged the net. not much different than getting hooked on a breakaway IMO |

Books by former players are a dime a dozen these days, but his really stood out for me. Just an honest look at what it takes to carve out a career as a bottom six forward in the NHL, and to do it with dignity and a sense of humor. Highly recommend. I watched the replay but they only showed him getting the net out of place, they did not show the penalty call. |

Also, I agree on the opposing team being given a choice between a penalty shot or a power play - or heck even decline the penalty if you are already up a few goals late against a team like Toronto! |

for example, if say, anyone on the Capitals besides Ovechkin gets hauled down on a breakaway, wouldn't you rather put the league's #1 PP on the ice for 2 mins instead of having an average to below average player take a penalty shot? |
Re: The NHL Thread

But I see your point. |
Re: The NHL Thread

could go the other way too...a team with a bottom 5 PP in the league would probably take the penalty shot every time because their PP in ineffective i just think you should have the choice |
