I imagine they were. It's just such a funny clip to see. He basically picks up the entire goal and throws it on the ground.

Happy islanders have 5 of the first 6 on this 7 game road trip and we aren't even playing well.

That said, I was peeved Okposo left off world cup roster. He should be on it. I know they had to regret leaving him off last Olympic roster. Of course, he won't be an Islander by the time the world cup comes around but he should be on it.

Really? Can't stand Kevin Weekes when he's on the NHL Network doing that NHL tonight show. He's awful with a capital AWFUL!

Couldn't disagree more. He's probably my favorite personality currently on that show.

Interesting. Wow. Each their own.

Edit: To be fair, I'm talking about when he's over accentuating highlights during the reel. His actual analysis when he's being calm and serious is very good.

No idea how doing something so blatantly against the rules is not a penalty....

I enjoy both things about him. I like his flamboyancy. I also find him to be a pretty smart hockey guy.

The NHL should change the rule that if a penalty is called on a goalie. The backup goalie has to play during the two min power play AND the team has to skate a man down.

I'm a Kevin Weekes fan as well. I like Jamie McLennan too... don't know what it is about backup goalies making good commentators. Maybe they got lots of practice while sitting on the bench?

Probably my favorite on-air former player personality is Keith Jones. Loved him as a player, and I think he takes that no-nonsense approach in the broadcasting booth too. Also, his hatred of Milbury is palpable when they're on together, and that always makes me laugh.

meh would be too hard to mandate...the clock rarely stops after exactly 2 mins of PP time so that wouldn't really be fair...i get the logic behind your suggestion though

however, when a goalie does something like Hank did last night, or when there is a penalty on a clear cut breakaway, the team who drew the penalty should be able to choose between a PP or a Penalty Shot

Pens were roaring down the ice for a 2-on-1 when Hank dislodged the net. not much different than getting hooked on a breakaway IMO

I agree with you totally on both McLennan and Jones. Especially Jamie McLellan, I feel like I don't see him on there much anymore but maybe I just miss him. He really is great though. Keith Jones is probably the only one on the in studio team for NBC I actually do enjoy.

The starting goalie would have to wait until the next whistle.

Anyway, in other news...

Did Brayden Schenn have this coming?

Have you read Jones's book? As a Caps fan, I think you'd like it.

Books by former players are a dime a dozen these days, but his really stood out for me. Just an honest look at what it takes to carve out a career as a bottom six forward in the NHL, and to do it with dignity and a sense of humor. Highly recommend.

Thanks, I know delay of game is a penalty but have rarely seen in called on goalies.

I watched the replay but they only showed him getting the net out of place, they did not show the penalty call.

To be fair, it's not every day a goalie picks up the net and tosses it either :lol

I agree, making a team use their backup goalie is completely unworkable and likely to draw a too many men on the ice when the penalty expires and the goalies change back.

Also, I agree on the opposing team being given a choice between a penalty shot or a power play - or heck even decline the penalty if you are already up a few goals late against a team like Toronto!

yea, similar to declining a penalty in football when it benefits you to do so

for example, if say, anyone on the Capitals besides Ovechkin gets hauled down on a breakaway, wouldn't you rather put the league's #1 PP on the ice for 2 mins instead of having an average to below average player take a penalty shot?

Actually there's several players I feel more confident in successfully converting a penalty shot than Ovie. Historically he isn't all that great at that, and the Caps have several players that are.

But I see your point.

yea i was just using generalities

could go the other way too...a team with a bottom 5 PP in the league would probably take the penalty shot every time because their PP in ineffective

i just think you should have the choice

Well, yeah there is that! Truthfully, he should have gotten a double minor for delay of game and unsportsman like conduct.

I agree with this. Though if the team chose to try a breakaway they should also be allowed to choose the player to attempt it.
