Mike Green will have an ultimate turn around season. 20 goals and he'll finish +15. You guys watch.

Just kidding. He probably won't even play that much, and then he'll get hurt

Because Ward missed most of the season last year. I considered taking him late but wanted an extra D.

Re: The NHL Thread

In all serious about Mike Green, I'm very curious what type of year he will have this season. It's a contract year for him, but he's now dropped to arguably 5th on the Caps depth chart, with the addition of Niskanen and Orpik. So I don't think he'll see the minutes he's accustomed to. I've always thought MG is a better defenseman than people give him credit for, I truly believe he's a victim (probably the best example) of being around Alex Ovechkin too much. Ovie's bad habits have influenced that whole team for years, but it's probably not any more evident than it is in Mike Green. The lack of conditioning, the glaring lack of attention to detail on the ice...it's all Ovie cancer stuff.

My hope for Green is he has a productive start and the Caps trade him in January. I think MG's still got it if he's playing on a well structured and well coached team. But it's just ain't happening in DC.

I remember people saying how bad of a trade the Wings did for Robert Lang. Wings gave up Tomas Fleischmann (who wasn't on the Wings team yet) a first rounder (that became Green) and another pick like 4th round or something. When the Caps were rolling like 2009-2011 so many people were saying how bad that deal worked out for the Wings and I wonder what they think now. Fleischmann didn't make the Caps until 06-07 full time so he wouldn't have been on the Wings, Green might not have been taken by the Wings with that pick plus look at where his career is going now. Lang was the leading scorer when they got him and produced well in the playoffs in 04 and 06 and a good regular season in 06. 2007 he struggled but scored some big goals in the playoffs. I'll take what the Wings did over what the Caps did. Always amazes me how people are so shortsighted and gloss over the good things to see the bad.

He still qualifies as my rookie keeper in my fantasy league so he had better sign quick.

Bruins should just trade Boychuk to the Isles like rumored so they have the cap room to sign Krug and Smith(?)

All this fantasy talk has me amped up for my draft on wed/thurs. Yes, we need 2 days for ours, lol.

That trade was good for both team in my opinion. Wings got the leading scorer in the league, and the Caps went all in on the fire sale. And they got some good pieces in return, including the Lang trade.

To the bolded, exactly.

Oh yeah Caps got good things out of it, even if Flash is gone now and Green is going down. But even though Lang was only there for one long playoff run (conference finals in 07), none of the assets they gave up would have done much over that time, and they don't get to the WCF's without Lang. Scored game-tying goals in series clincher and another game that if he didn't score, they go down 3-1 to the Sharks.

You are correct. He's no Adam Foote defensively, but you don't make it to the NHL as a defenseman without having some skill. But yeah, you're absolutely 100% correct when it comes to his attitude. What was it Ovechkin said a while back when he was being scrutinized for a defensive effort? "It's not my job" or some shit? Same thing with Green. He's been coddled and encouraged to play offensively and that setting has allowed him to get complacent. He's still not the most gifted skater - some guys just aren't - but he could still work on his positioning, his conditioning, his strength... all those things that could make him a better overall player. Interested to see what happens this season.

I was just talking to my brother (huge B's fan) about the Boychuck rumors. He was adamant they not go through with it, and it would suck for the B's to lose the all-around presence of a guy like him, but man would that be awesome for the Isles (and clear up space for the Bruins). I know Boychuk's not a #1 guy (yet) but there are few defensemen that have his all-around skillset. Would love him on my team.

I'll take Boychuck. B's won't trade him here but I'd take him.

Good news on Krug

Not good news that Visnovsky was helped to the locker room and was limping. I hope it was nothing big as he is top 5 for least guy we could afford to lose

In the spirit of us both having players who we, out of principal, don't want on our rosters, I just sent you a trade proposal.

Jenner out for at least a month with a broken hand.

CBJ could realisticly open with the entire first line injured/unsigned.

murray has been banged up.

and back to irrelevance we go.

Hope not. As long as you don't hurt my Wings, I want the Jackets to do well.

hopefully wennberg, dano and rychel are good as advertised.

a lot of buzz here that the wings may try to grab Golubef if he hits waivers on his way back to springfield since he's a right handed shot and has looked fantastic in camp.
