It was nice of all 3 of them on the ice just now in OT to stand still and allow Marner to own their shit. That was abysmal by the Rangers.

Pretty nice goal and the refs were still homers.

It helps if you get power plays. Wouldn't you know it but the Rangers are kinda good on the power play.

Oilers lost in a stinker. Didn't get many power plays, and considering they have the best in the league that just means it's the ref's fault.........right?

Re: The NHL Thread

Rangers had a let down last night as well. Had the Leafs on the ropes until the last 10 minutes. They had no answer once Toronto turned it on in the last 10 minutes and looked shell shocked. The "Kid line" was really the only one playing at a high level and somehow Gallant decided to not start them in the OT. The top players of Mika, Panarin and Kreider have looked lost the last few games with a few exceptions.

Overall I can't complain about the status of the Rangers. They are probably going to wind up 3rd or a W.C. spot. Don't see them catching NJ or Carolina. They are also a few deadline deals away from being a strong contender again (or totally missing the mark lol). Not sure what Drury can do with the cap issues though. If they can get half of what they got out of Copp, Vitrano, and Motte at the deadline last year I will be thrilled.

^ agree with this. Leafs, in typical Leafs fashion played 10 minutes of 60. Samsonov played great and held them in it all game. Looking forward to their first round exit again. Ugh.

A rare Troy post in the NHL thread is like spotting an albatross! Hope all is well!

I think the Leafs post-season will come down to who they play in the first round. I am curious though, if the Leafs win a round and exit in Rd. 2, would that be considered a successful season at this point?

It's almost guaranteed to be Tampa I think.

I'm a Leafs hater, so take this for what you see fit, but I don't think winning 1 round would be a successful season. They need to at least make the conference finals IMO. On a bigger scale, I'm generally of the opinion that if your team doesn't win the championship, the season is/was unsuccessful.

Usually when I watch college hockey a player gets thrown out. Last night as was watching the Warriors and Steph gets thrown out! Because why not?

Bruins officially in a funk and just in time for the all-star break to rest. I'm thinking maybe a trade for a goal scorer at the deadline.

Boston learned that it is not easy to play the old Southeast division right now. Tampa are still 3 time defending EC champs, Florida should be better than their record is and are improving, and the Canes are very good and a legit cup contender this year.

It will be very interesting to see how Boston does next time they see all of those teams.

I think I'm going to the Canes game in Raleigh in March as the wife and her gf who lives down there are doing (running) the half.

Florida looked terrible against the Rangers. Barely any life.

Which I am grateful for as the Panthers play has been much improved overall the past 15 games. Going into that Rangers game they were 8-2 in their last 10. The Rangers sent them into a 3 game slump though before they rebounded against the Bruins.

Florida and Calgary are interesting this year because they both should be better, but that trade seems to have made both teams slightly worse. Makes me think it might just be a chemistry thing that they are figuring out still.

Islanders made a big trade to get Bo Horvat from the Canucks. I wanted the Rangers to target him as I knew he would make them better without selling the farm. Great deal for the Islanders and might get them back in the playoff picture.

For the Rangers, I wonder and worry that it might mean they are all in on Patrick Kane for way to high of a price. Hopefully I am wrong, but I feel like they always make the wrong choice in these moments.
