He has them all bookmarked on his computer.

Oh, sorry Barbs. We should have been more sensitive to your situation.

The Stanley Cup is the trophy presented to the last team standing in the Stanley Cup Finals. It's the best trophy in all of sports.

The reason it sounds foreign is you're probably used to hearing about something called the "President's Trophy", which is presented to the team with the best win-loss record at the end of the regular season. Contrary to some claims within and without the Capitals organization, this trophy is not more important than the Stanley Cup.

For more on the Cup, see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VveCdLrkY1g

Luckily,I am the old fart around here and have a good memory or I would be taking notes on this post, too.

Game 6 in 97 and game 7 in 02 against the Avs are just in my head. Don't need youtube for those.

Do you think Ron Francis was looking across at the Red Wings and all those Hall of Famers and saying to himself, "Somewhere I fucked up and ended up on the wrong side here."

just had a random thought.

let's say the NHL adopts the AHL OT rules and we start to see less than 20% of OT games going to shoot outs.

would you want to see the point system restructured too?
same number of points for an OT win vs, regulation win vs shoot out win?
do you still get a point for losing in OT?

personally id like to see it where you get 2 points for a win regardless but only get a point for a loss if it's in the shootout.

edit: and keep the ROW tie breaker around.

Bingo. Totally agree. No points for OT losses, one point for shootout losses. Keep ROW around. Perfect idea.

Re: The NHL Thread

yeah, even in the current system i don't see a point of giving a point for an OT loss.

you lost the game playing hockey, you don't get rewarded.

the only way im cool with a point for an OT loss is if they give an extra point for a regulation win and i dont think that's ever going to happen.

We've had this conversation a lot. They won't change the point system regardless in my mind. The point for OT was started because teams would sit back and not attack in OT and play for the tie. That's why it was started and they'll keep that even if it's difficult to play for the shootout with 3on3 happening, teams would still try. Of course add to it that it helps crowd the standings. The NHL wants that. I'm actually for 3 point system, wasn't before, but again, helps parity the way it is now.

Perfect idea that makes sense.

The problem is though, we're talking about the NHL. When is the last time they had common sense?

I don't think it's that bad personally either, but you still get 2 points for a shootout win or a regulation win. Sure the tie breaker is total regulation wins but doesn't mean a team can't pull ahead with shootout wins.

my thinking behind it is that every team has to play under this points system, so by default it is a fair approach

sure, some teams might be better at the shootout than others, but at this point, you know it's a part of the game so get better...

i could see why people want a different points system but honestly, it works. thats all that matters

Am I the only one that thinks the Hawks goal song is slightly overrated? I mean, it's neat and all, but it's a little bit annoying too. And it's literally ALWAYS #1 on those lists. Meh.

I absolutely love it, and I think that's the point. Opposing teams/fans really find it irritating, and it gets under the skin of other teams.

Home fans really, really love it, and I know the team does too. It's everything you want from a goal song. It's fun, it's loud, it gives that "YEAH!" feeling...The concourse after playoff wins is flooded with people singing that song, or the parking lots are like walking through Alpine Valley's parking lots during a DMB concert, instead of hearing 18 versions of Dancing Nancies/Lie In Our Graves, it's everyone playing Chelsea Dagger. I think it's rightfully #1, but I may be biased.

That said, I really don't understand how the Bruins don't use the Dropkick Murphy's as well...Shipping up to Boston?

I think it's rightfully at the top of the lists every time. That clip of the Canucks is awesome.
