As much as I would like to see Chicago just beat Pittsburgh in regulation part of me would love to see a 3 on 3 OT with say Malkin/Crosby/Letang vs Toews/Kane/Keith starting the extra period. I always love these Hawks/Penguins matchups, such exciting hockey, more so since they only meet twice a year. Should be a great game. Seeing what Pittsburgh has accomplished in the past couple years and how they have carried themselves with so much class has put a damper on my lifelong hatred for the Pens - they did torment my Whalers for ages, which was where that hatred began! That is all gone now, new breed of Pens and no Whalers. I am surprised that Murray has never faced the Hawks though.

Wild/Detroit and Caps/Sens should be great games as well!

Gonna be another fun night!

I certainly plan on watching the first half of that game and likely the end if it is still on when the Hawks/Pens go to intermission. Gotta love the O 6 teams!!!!!!

Have fun tonight!! I had to make a tough call, but I decided to try for the Red Sox game instead (you know, playoffs and such)! As a result, the wife and I decided not to head up until tomorrow morning.

First NHL game of the season will now be a week from Saturday in Chicago for the Hawks v Preds game!

Eh with McDavid and Matthews I think they'd be ok with that. And TO is a massive market. The NHL doesn't really need the big markets or US really. Sure they'd prefer some certain things but they aren't the NBA in that regard. 2011 should have been crappy with Boston being the only US team and Vancouver not being TO or Mont. but ratings were good. 2007 ratings were awful but it was a boring match-up regardless where the teams were from.

Thanks guys. The do a student/military special thing where cheap unsold single seats go on sale the day of, so I hopped on it. I was a big fan of the simplicity and the intimate feeling of the Joe, I feel like I might be overwhelmed by the LCA and all the pageantry and stuff.

I must say, while I’ll always be happy that it’s hockey time again, I’ve never been less excited about the start of a new Capitals season.

That’s probably not very good of me, as there’s definitely some interesting stuff happening and several younger players that are gonna get a regular spot this year for the first time, but still, I’m just like, not really that excited.

I think perhaps this team’s inability to finish has finally broken me. I’ll still watch when I can (like tonight), but I can’t see myself getting all riled up this year like I have in the past.

I was absolutely in awe at the LCA. Every little thing about it is perfect. Yeah I loved the Joe for the atmosphere, but literally everything else was a total improvement. Probably the most state of the art hockey/basketball arena in the world, not a single complaint. If you ever have the chance to see a DRW game there, go.

Yeah, I was pretty shocked myself. I figured they'd bounce back after that OT loss last night. I figured it would be a close game, never figured the Hawks would put up ten and the Pens would get their only goal on a 5 on 3. Pretty damn happy with our opener - also nice to see Saad get a hat trick in his first game back on the Hawks. Kane and Schmaltz were great too and nice to see Sharp net one in his first game back in Chicago!

Caps looked real rusty through two periods last night but the Ovie-Kuznetsov-Vrana line really shined in the third. Cool to see Ovie get a hat trick, just hope he stays consistent all year. Also wasn’t thrilled that the Caps M.O. of coming back to tie a game and then immediately giving the lead back is still alive and well. Holtby looked OK but not great, but it’s not really fair to evaluate the goalie on one game, especially the first one in months. It was a decent first game I guess, we shall see.

Nice to see a Wings win. When the Wild tied it so quick I was like ok this is more what I was expecting this year but they responded nicely. Poetic start to LCA though with the kids playing well but the captain getting the winner. Holy crap Mike Green with 4 assists. Worry what the Wings would have to do to make the room for AA when he does re-sign because he's not gonna like not getting paid. I know Booth and Witkowski will get sent down but that won't be enough.
