My Avs love continues, with auto draft giving me MacKinnon, Duchene, and Landeskog. :lol

I always bite back the urge to start dropping players early on, and just hold on them for a bit to see how they end up doing, but pretty sure I'll be on the market for a goalie. I can't see Dubnyk and Frederik Andersen taking me too far.

I dropped the injured Huberdeau and the unsigned Lindholm to pick up some guys that can actually play, but other than that, I kinda like just letting my auto drafted roster play for a week or two, just to see how things go and who surprises me.

Who knows, maybe this will be the year Chris Kreider scores 40 goals? :lol

Name your price dude. My auto draft gave me Backstrom, Oshie and Carlson. I'd really like to add Kuznetsov. You can have anyone you want or any combination you want, except the Caps.

I have Eberle. He can be yours.

I'll take a harder look but I don't see anyone that is worth it. Relooking at my team it's not TOO bad. My D fucking sucks but forwards (overall) aren't bad. Some shit ones but maybe I'll see how things go.

Re: The NHL Thread

Love seeing Wings fans losing their shit like somehow a few moves a few years ago and the Wings would be better. The moves they were looking at were guys who never made the team or didn't do much when they were here and a couple were part of deals. One was an ehhh kinda deal but rumors that the prospect wanted a guarantee to be on the big club the next year and the other trade was for Erik Cole who was having a great year and you were looking like a contender at that point. If only teams could see into the future when they make trades right? I've said it 100x. Wings are in no-man's land. I'd say they only have one real bad deal on the books right now and that's Ericsson. Kronwall and Zetterberg are just aging and going back to when they signed the deals (especially Z) you wouldn't change it. I know some fans say they would now but they would have been crappier then and sure with hindsight sure you can look at it but that's not reality. Fans upset that Pulkkinen on waivers but ya know benched most of the 2nd half of the year and wasn't producing much but sure keep him. Martin Frk who before last year did nothing in Grand Rapids so again...didn't earn his spot. not that I'm happy with where the Wings are, but I don't see them anywhere else if they made a few minor deals differently. Not like they magically would have picked #1 a few years ago and got McDavid.

You can have Eberle + any of my defenseman that aren't John Carlson. Or any of my forwards (except Backstrom and Oshie). Doesn't have to be Eberle. You'd still be stacked at C with Kopitar and Pavelski.

Spots are tight because 3 our kids have looked really good and one of them was gonna take his spot next year. It looks like it may have moved up a year.

I always feel bad for the family. The was just an article in the paper last week about his wife and 2 kids have settled back into their new place/area they were gonna live and were excited to be back living on the Island. Now who knows what will happens if he is claimed. Sucks for them.

Just saw he got picked up by New Jersey... luckily that's not too much of a move. Looks like my brother is going to get a new favorite team.

This is a big thing to consider with fantasy players. :thumbsup

If I'm ever surfing the waiver wire, I'm always looking not for the stars (they're usually all snatched up), but who's playing on a line WITH the stars.

He's a pretty good skater for his size, but he really doesn't have to keep up with them too much. Just go hard to the net to pick up their garbage or feeds, and/or dig pucks out of corners to feed them. Those will be his two big jobs.

EDIT: He'll be the Holmstrom of that line, if maybe a tad more mobile.

And threaten to kill someone. Don't forget that.

edit: And I get he doesn't need to really keep up with them but he's had weight issues so if he's not in shape that can hurt you, even if you aren't super fast. That was more of my keeping up with them comment.

I'm curious as to how it will go. I mean I don't think it will be awful by any means but I'd like to see it work out well for both sides. Blash had issues not letting lines find chemistry last year. Sometimes you need to try and ride stuff out and he didn't. I think part of it was worrying about the playoff streak alive. If Vanek can find the right linemates I think he can do well. You know he'll be on the PP.

A lot of Puck Daddy people not giving the Wings any shot in the Atlantic. Some have them just one spot over the Leafs. While I don't think they are cup contenders by any stretch, I think they'll be in the playoff hunt. Forwards are good and goaltending is good. That should win you enough games to be in the hunt.

Yeah, Y is certainly doing an amazing job. That is a great signing. Admittedly it helps that Kucherov will get all his money since FL has no income tax but still what they are building down there is amazing. ALso, if the tax thing was such a big motivator to athletes than the dolphins, marlins, rays and whatever NBA team is down there should be contenders every year!

I was looking forward to it but work has been crazy and it's amazing how busy your nights can be with kindergarten "homework" for the little dude, making dinner, and then the rest of the nighttime routine and try to get it all done in like an hour and a half cause he'll start to breakdown by 7:30. I've discovered, 5 year olds are not meant to be in school for a full day without a nap/rest time. Hell, my mind is constantly thinking "it it bedtime yet?"

But really, to be honest, this hockey season has a bit of bitterness to it for me, because of the whole Brown thing. I'm sure that'll pass throughout the season but right now I'm still angry and sad. Guess I'll focus on my other team for a bit!

Hurray!

Heading to the bar with some buddies to watch the Leafs open up the season. I'm expecting a 3-2 loss for them tonight. Regardless, they should improve enough to be just outside of contention (i imagine they end up with 9-11th pick this year.)

With 6 rookies in the lineup tonight I'm excited to see some of these kids perform.

For anyone watching - Marner will be on a line with JVR and Bozak. He should, likely not tonight, but play well with the minutes he's given.

Also, keep your eye on Connor Brown. He'll get 4th line minute but this kid can come up out of nowhere. So much skill.

Wow that looked bad for Eichel. Hope he's okay.

Was good to see Sid skating hard yesterday.

Geno made an odd comment when asked about it.

"Were hoping he only misses 1, maybe 0 games."

Clearly something could have been lost in translation when he said that, but it is interesting. Just hoping this is short term.

Wow, what a debut game for Matthews! Amazing, guy is going to be a star IMO.

Not happy with the Chicago outcome but those 3 penalties in about 3 minutes so St. Louis went from down 2-1 to up 3 to 2, 2 empty net goals sealed it.

One thing though, Reaves is an asshole. If I was Seabrook and that bastard punched me in the head during that scrap I would have taken the penalty and smashed my stick into his face since he was without a helmet, fuck him!

Lombardi said it could be awhile so I would grab someone.

I loved seeing all the Canadian media all psyched about Matthews and saying "rebuild over?" and stuff. Well he scored 4 and the team still lost. So rebuild is over if he can average 5 goals a game maybe. That would shatter Wayne's record by like over like 300 goals.

Super stoked for Matthews, what a great way to start a career.

What's sad is that, playing in Toronto, if he now goes even two games without scoring a goal, they'll talk about the "slump" that he's in and probably start giving up on him. I think he's got the mental fortitude to handle it, and obviously the hockey chops to not keep people second guessing for too long.

This is a good follow up to my post. 4 goals = the 2nd coming. 4 games with no goals = total bust.

Yeah, I don't want to come off as a downer about it. I mean, an NHL rookie just scored FOUR goals in his first NHL game. It should definitely be celebrated and I hope those in Maple Leafs nation allow Matthews to continue to grow in a positive environment.

Also, from Luongo:

Me neither.

I spend MINUTES and MINUTES putting together season-ending awards for you bums and I haven't seen a CENT for my hard work.

Well, Sarah gave me the Sakic bobblehead, so she's good. Forever.
