I have a feeling Buffalo will offer the $12mil and if they do it will be hard for Stammerto say no. Detroit could go to 11mil but I dunno. Detroit needs him more than the Sabres do.

Stamkos to the Rangers!!!! The Rangers have made a huge trade to get Stamkos from Tampa!!
They just gave up any hope of winning the cup for the next 54 years and a 1st and 2nd round pick. Also, some old player named Hank Lundqcvdjdjist who probably can't stop the puck anymore anyway! Woo welcome Stamkos to a New York State of mind (i.e. Only the Yankees are allowed to win titles). |
Re: The NHL Thread
Loller-Rangers! :lol :lol I almost feel bad sir Stammer, except he's getting $$$$.

Sounds like Detroit is pretty desperate to get Stamkos.
As long as he doesn't end up a Leaf I'm happy. Living in the Leafs market is just the worst. |
Re: The NHL Thread
I don't understand all these people NOT wanting Stamkos. Talent like this barely touches the UFA market in the NHL, and people want their teams to not sign one of the best players in the game? What?

Re: The NHL Thread
So who gets into HHOF today? I think Lindros finally makes it in. The names that are first year eligble....yeah. Hell with the names on there, Chris Osgood could find his way in. I don't think he does but this would be the year.
|
Re: The NHL Thread

Very strange to consider names like Kiprusoff and Hejduk being eligible. I'm starting to feel very old when I hear stuff like that. |
Re: The NHL Thread
Quote:
There is an argument for all the guys you mentioned but none of them are like "yep for sure in." Lindros had his injuries, Mogilny had some great years early in his career and then it kinda fell off comparatively, Andreychuk had good numbers but he played for 100 years. I don't think Ozzie gets in but I always hate the "he played on good teams" argument. He's no Roy but Roy struggled more when the team around got worse in Montreal. If Roy doesn't get traded to play with Sakic, Forsberg, Miller, Deadmarsh, Lemieux, Blake, Bourque, DeVries, Hejduk, Drury etc...where does his career go? Again, not saying Ozzie is as good as Roy but no one sits here and says Roy's last 7 years are worth less because he played with a bunch of hall of famers. My votes go Lindros, Recchi and if there is a 3rd...Mogilny. |
Re: The NHL Thread

I think the only guy I mentioned that's a "yep, for sure" is Mark Recchi. He absolutely deserves it. |
Re: The NHL Thread
Would be a good day for Flyers fans (rare!) if Lindros and Recchi can get in.

Re: The NHL Thread
Wow yeah, just looked up his career stats and you're right, I guess I'd forgotten how much he moved around. Still, when I think Recchi I think Flyers, then Canadiens. His early career stints in Pittsburgh and Philly were slightly before I could really understand the game. Earliest I can remember, he was a Canadien. I definitely remember him moving from MTL to PHI, and I associate him mostly with the Flyers.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
Recchi and Andreychuk should get in this year, both were close to point per game guys with a bunch of awards, accolades and great stats which were high on the all time lists. Osgood should be a no brainer with his numbers, awards and accolades. Hell - between those 3 they have a combined 8 Cup rings to their name (7 if you discount the one Andreychuk got as a coach) and a boatload of all star selections and appearances. Mogilny would be my fourth choice because he averaged well over a point per game but I fear his 3 years in the KHL may work against him this year. Rounding out my top 5 would be Lindros (another guy who averaged well over a point per game) but I think his lack of games played due to injuries and his general attitude when he was younger might work against him. Just my two cents, all of them are deserving but when it comes to voting I can never tell so who knows.

Would love for Recchi and Lindros to get in. Recchi should be a lock, Lindros should get in, because he had HoF talent, but I don't know if he does or not

I need Friday to get here. Want some free agent frenzy.
Drew Miller has resigned with the Wings for one year and 1mil. Can't argue that one. Great 4th liner guy and PK guy. |
Re: The NHL Thread

So do they always have to induct a certain number of players into the HoF every year? I mean, it seems like they let some guys in just because it's a weak class (ahem, Cicarelli). Could they ever just be like, "meh, I think we'll only take three guys this year."? I don't know. Total kudos to warriors like Dave Andreychuk and stuff. But is he really a HALL OF FAME hockey player? I dunno. |
Re: The NHL Thread
You can have a max of 4 players (males) elected but I don't think there is a minimum. The players needs to get to a certain # or % of votes.

Lindros is one of those players where I agree with both sides of whether or not he deserves to be in the HOF. I hope Recchi gets in. I definitely identify him as a Flyer more than any other team he's been on.

Sounding like Lindros will be getting in.

Re: The NHL Thread

Re: The NHL Thread
Happy belated Roose.
The Shaw deal, he wasn't gonna be getting $2mil we knew that so the # isn't THAT bad but it's the 6 years. No way is he worth that commitment. I'd do 3 years at that price but no way 6. They only have 8mil in salary so I don't see that as a landing spot for Stamkos unless Subban is on the move by Friday. If Stammer isn't signed in TBL by tomorrow, I think they are done. At noon Friday Tampa can no longer offer the 8th year so when it's a level playing field in terms of years and TO, BUF and DET can offer 10-12mil and TB can only do 8.5, they can't compete with that. |
Re: The NHL Thread

Re: The NHL Thread
People said the same thing about Dave Bolland and David Clarkson though too. If he is scoring 25 points a year, 6 years is a long time. He's not gonna be as effective in Montreal because they aren't as good as Chicago. You can play your role when you you have a Toews, Kane and Hossa out there. I get why Montreal gave him the term, if you didn't, somebody would and that's what you had to do to get a deal done. If they feel he's gonna be a great fit for their team...great. I just wonder how much of it is "Ooo he did great for Chicago and Chicago wins, we gotta get him." Teams tried to get players from the Avs and Wings back in the day and they usually failed. Martin Lapointe got a 5 year deal at like 5.2mil per year from the Bruins because he was a great in Detroit. He didn't do so well after he left. All of a sudden your leadership and stuff isn't the same when you don't have Yzerman, Shanahan, Fedorov and Larionov out there with you.

I need Friday to get here....So I can watch TO get Stamkos and the Wings overpay for one of the other guys. Lucic visited Vancouver yesterday and Edmonton today. Dreger saying he's on the Wings list.....no thanks. He's scored a whopping 20 goals last year and 18 the year before and you want me to give him 6mil per for 5-6 years? No way.

Still unsure how Mark Recchi doesn't go in, especially with such a weak class. I mean, what more does a player have to do?
I won't lie I had never heard of Rogie Vachon until yesterday. I'm sure it's a perfectly fine nomination, but come on. Seems like they stretched pretty hard on that one. |

Re: The NHL Thread
Orange is more unique as the Bruins, Kings, Ducks, and Penguins all wear black at home. A few other teams use black as their third jersey too.

Hank's contract is not even the tip of the iceberg of issues for the Rangers. We as a fan base are very aware of this and know that we missed our window. It is time to just ride out the end of some of these contracts and try to re-tool when and where we can. Believe me, I am preparing myself to be the type of fan that I was from 1997-2006. |

Few reports saying Lucic is signing with the Oilers. Not sure how I feel about it, if true. On one hand he's proven to be the kind of player the Oilers desperately need. On the other, he's likely past his prime at this point. Can't hurt I suppose!
