Just be fucking careful plz. Cleared Montador for contact, quickly played a game and seems to have gotten hurt already....might be done for the year at this point, who knows.

I'm going to be so fucking scared that first game back for Toews.

fonzz41 03-29-2012 09:41 AM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

^ Good luck with that. Like Crosby, I don't think "careful" exists in Toews' vocabulary once he hits the ice. Bless his heart.

The best description for the style of play of Crosby and Toews that I've ever heard actually came from Matthew Barnaby of all people in a tweet (multiple misspellings of course), who essentially said, "[Crosby and Toews] have a fourth liners attitude with a top liners talent."

Love that. Couldn't think of a better compliment to a player. It's something I keep in mind as I play now, and that I try to instill in the kids I coach.

lockman21 03-29-2012 09:51 AM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Toews is not Montador. They won't have him skate in games unless he's ready. He is the face of the organization.

I'M SO EXCITED.

Yep....would've been nice. I'm surprised at how well they've survived so far without Toews but the last two without Toews AND Keith have been a bit sketchy.

Kane is a nice idea at C but it's not a long-term solution unless he can start winning faceoffs.

Goal never had to happen. Kane turned it over in neutral zone when he had chance to dump it. Then on 3rd goal Kane got out of Berglund's way so he could tip it in.

Because Dave Bolland is perfect at the 3C, which is why you hardly ever notice the other teams top line.

Add that to the fact that Kruger may be one of the smartest hockey players i have seen in a long time, and he is only 21. He is ALWAYS in the right spot, always sees the best pass. His skills just need to catch up, and they will.

The Stals-Sharp-Kruger line was a +54 Corsi rating tonight against the best defensive team in the league. That is ball-breaking.

Unfortunately I do notice opposing teams' top lines quite often and those lines do score on us quite often.

Well, I'm really running out of lessons for you.

Bolland goes out every night and plays each teams top line, and is a +1.

Brunette was a 4th line player most of the year and when he wasn't he was with Toews or Hossa, he is a -13. Bolland has had Shaw, Frolik, Stalberg, and Bickell to carry around all year.

Not to mention Kruger is a +9 in the 2C role, and isn't nearly as defensively skilled as Bolland. If Kruger centered the 3rd line and went out against top lines every night, this team would not be about to clinch a playoff birth.

Dave Bolland is nearly last in on-ice Corsi on this team. So obviously opposing teams are getting their shots away when that line is out there. I'd say they do a pretty solid job of keeping it out of the net but I also question the idea of a "checking line" as a necessity. If you have Sharp - Bolland - Hossa on one line, you can match up against any opposing team's top line offensively and defensively. It's one thing to keep the opposition off the scoreboard against your line, it's another to make them work hard in the d-zone when they are on the ice.

I agree that Kruger isn't exactly matured or seasoned yet. So that's why I think it's kind of a waste to have him playing with your top forwards at this stage in his development. Why can't he play on 3rd line like Versteeg did? You don't have to have them match up against opposing top lines always because you have Sharp - Bolland - Hossa........

No, not really.

I just think that saddling him with fringy NHLers and sending them all out against opposing teams' top lines may not be the best way to utilize his skillset. Maybe it worked well in 08-09 and 09-10 when he had guys like Ladd, Versteeg, Havlat on his line. Making a mediocre faceoff guy take 70% of his faceoffs in the defensive zone is...odd.

Put Bolland with Sharp and Hossa and not only will the Sedins never get into the offensive zone, they'll be playing defense all night.

Disagree. Bolland is being utilized just how he should be. Put him with Bickell and Shaw...GREAT. Let 81-88-15 stay as the second line. 10-19-25 can be the top line.

Perfect. If you throw 10 as the 2C, where does everyone else go? 81-88 have been magical, and Bruno has finally found a place where he "fits" on this team. Sharp and Stalberg were pretty great together. It just throws a wrench in a system that has been working. Why try and fix what isn't broken right now? Kane's been doing a great job centering that line. No need to yank him out of it now.

I don't get it. Unless you mean that taking someone from the Leafs organization is just stupid.

Understandable. It actually is quite funny how well some of the lines have been clicking since Q decided to stop fucking with them on a game by game basis as that is his MO. Gotta wonder if someone up top (Scotty?) told him to quit juggling the lines so much.

No issue with that really. Just saying I would try it. Would rather Kruger play with Kane & Hossa though.

Absolutely would agree with 10-19-25 top line. If Sharp & Stalberg keep thsi up and you add Toews....domination.

Also think it's funny how you were totally on the Viktor Stalberg bandwagon early last season. Then you were off it after he sucked toward end of the year (as we all hated him then). Looks like you were right....he certainly has legit talent and has improved all year. Probably Stan Bowman's best move of the offseason, getting him for 2 years at $850k each. Hope he tries to extend him again at beginning of next season. If Ville Leino gets $4.5m a year for 19 goals, how much would have Stalberg gotten in UFA for 19 even-strength goals plus his elite speed?

The problem with Stalberg is pretty simple. He "should" be really, really good. He's slowly just been figuring it out. Whenever I hated Stalberg, it was out of pure frustration. Why is a guy like him so unable to find the back of the net? He's really started to slowly figure it out though, and it sure is fun to watch.

More frustrating at this point - why doesn't 25 get any PP time?

Who knows. Q would rather go with immobile guys (Brunette) and non-scorers (Kruger)....Hawks have such a horrible time just gaining the zone and setting up shop...certainly Stalberg could help dumping and retrieving pucks. He does that night in and night out.

Stalberg doesn't have the best hands probably....he certainly has botched a couple opportunities on the doorstep. BUT, he does get a ton of chances, and I think his shooting% of 9.7% could certainly improve as he learns pick his spots a bit more. Then again, he is a shoot first guy usually and that is not a bad thing.

For me, 19 goals all at even strength while playing 13 and a half minutes a game is pretty damn impressive. He has more even-strength goals this year than Kane, Hossa, Logan Couture, Brad Richards, Alexander Semin, Lupul, Lucic......that's impressive. Same number of even-strength points as ALEX OVECHKIN (who oh-by-the-way plays 2 and a half more minutes a game at even strength).

Keep in mind that Stalberg has 8 goals against the Blue Jackets, so it's a bit misleading how great those 19 goals are.

Eh....so what. A goal is a goal. The Jackets are bad but it's still a goal against NHL competition.

Hawks friends - figured I'd post this here first, see if you guys want to go -

I have 4 tickets to Sunday's game, section 110 row 12 that I can't use. If you want them, they are yours. I have a parking pass for lot K as well. I'll give a 50% off Ants discount, because I love you all so much. $200 total for the 4 tickets plus the parking pass.

Wish I could too. Great seats. I'm flying to Augusta, GA for the Masters though, so I can't go.

Face is $140+fees per ticket, so that's a lot more than 50% off, I guess.

Masters is a potentially once in a lifetime chance to see.....41 home games in a season. If it was a playoff game, that'd be tough.

:lol

It's the Masters. Toughest ticket in sports, bucket list type deal. Can't pass on that. I've been to 100's of Hawks games, but the Masters...If this weren't a regular season game against the Wild without Toews then maybe it would be a consideration. If it were a WCF/SCF game then no way am I missing that for golf.

Mike (bonzo) will be attending in my place. So there will be someone there at the UC from this thread.
